@anndy578 Because no one suggested it during the alphas-betas. Not trying to be snotty (though I know it's how I sounded) But that is probably the actual reason. They added pirate saving when choosing your pirate, and that was last minute. If someone had suggested a preview option for clothing during the betas I'm sure they would have added it. Just slipped everyone's mind.

However, now that it has been suggested, rare can implement it after all the bugs and other issues have been fixed.

Same with the sails. Spent 70k on the black dog sails only to see they are literally just a reskin of the white sails, including the patches. It may not bother some folks but I'd rather not spend 70k only to see the sails still look ratty and torn with a hasty patch job.
