I feel a 3 man sloop is better then a 3 man crew on the bigger ship. with 1 in the crows next 1 on the map navigating and one steering the ship this would be ideal. and alot better.
3 man sloop crew

I agree sloops 1 to 3 player and for the galleon raise the crew count to 6 players 4 man crews are skeleton crews and cant take full advantage of the galleon
I agree 100%

Right now 3 man groups have no option. 3 man galleons are simply not viable. It does not work and can be easily beat by a 4 man galleon or 2 man sloop. It's actually quite frustrating since I play with a tight knit group of 3 and we can't enjoy the game due to this oversight
We should have like a support post for this as I feel a large number of players agree with you I do.

this is somethign that IMO woudl completely balance the game with regards to Sloop v Galleon disparity but would break it for solo players.
This in combination of dedicated servers for solo v solo would be perfect.
Do away with 3 man Galleons all together.
Play solo sloop = que against other solo players only.
Play crew sloop (up to 3) or galleon (up to 5) = que against crew sloops and galleons.Sloop 3 man crew:
1 to pilot the vessel
1 to man cannons
1 to man sails and repairGalleon:
1 to pilot vessel
2 to work sails/repair
2 to man cannonsIf you are a three man Galleon you should definitely be recruiting for a competent 4th. 3/3 times I’ve recruited from the discord I have found a competent, friendly, player to run with us. That’s not to say the 3-man Galleon is impossible, you’re just not going to be able to go toe to toe with 2-man sloops or 4-man galleons. Play to your strengths. If you are 3-man, you must avoid battle, and stay focused on the horizon. when you come up to shore take the time to get your ship ready to flee: point in the direction of the wind, pull up the anchor, have your sails at the right angle so that if something appears on the horizon you can flee instantly.

Stop trying to fix things that aren’t broken. Focus on real issues like the respawn problem -_-

NOOOOOOOOOOO!
A 3 person sloop would be nearly unsinkable. The game is balanced well enough as it is.
Stop trying to change the balance of the game because of your own inadequate skill!
Your experience with the game is not the same as others so your mileage may vary when compared with others. If you have a good crew then nobody can ever sink you in this game. You can only have so many holes in your ship. It is typically whoever runs out of cannonballs or boards dies first in my experiences.
@jockjammer1 said in 3 man sloop crew:
Agree with all that OP! and make the Sloop an actual Sloop, I.E: Fore/aft rigging with a jib and a shallower draft. I have now officially exceeded my "Make a post every day about how the sloop in game is not a sloop." Rule by one post and shall shut my grog hole about it until tomorrow. XD
Changes to both ships where made to balance them. Obviously the comparison between sloop speed and galleon speed in real life are not accurately represented in the game even without modern rigging. This is intentional to keep balance.

I believe that 3 people on any boat doesn’t fit anywhere. On a sloop it is to overpowered, and a galleon is too hard. I feel that if 3 daredevils want to play by themselves, then they can take the challenge. Sloop is too overpowered and not needed.
@s1l3nt I play primarily solo...
And the suggested changes would completely offset balance. So yes I strongly disagree.
Also your right and with added players on the ship it would only further cement that. It would just be a better of endurance which is ridiculous.

Yeah... so explain how a crew of 4 vs a crew of 2 or solo player is balanced right now? Because we wreck Galleons let alone Sloops or solo's lol. Balance lol.
@s1l3nt then they weren’t great crews lol. It’s about creativity and using the strengths of your ship. I’ve NEVER been sunk by a galleon as a sloop. Lol
The increased mobility and easy of use allows you a huge positional advantage. Also makes using the wind to bait out a waste of cannons a lot easier. (Ask and I’ll expand on this) also there’s a lot less room for miscommunication or a lack or coordination.
You can also use tight rock formations to win ^.^ I’m sorry that you haven’t faced any good crews yet but I promise you it’s balanced. Your average crew just doesn’t know what they are doing lol.
Also if you take human nature into account your average galleon crew is extremely over confident and very likely to chase you mindlessly. I have a few clips of myself outplaying them in ways like this. It’s all about PRACTICE and knowledge not. “Who has the most people” this ideology is completely wrong.
Edit: the concepts I mentioned are of course more advanced and someone only someone with previous sailing experience or knowledge on naval combat might think of however I’m always happy to share my knowledge and ideas ^.^

My only reason for wanting increased crews are for more people to be able to play with. However the majority of the player base is as you pointed out not that great. I want this game to continue to exist so if that means making adjustments to it to ensure the happiness of a much larger player base then lets make changes.
Right now there is no balance and the player numbers will show that. If there were a way to join your server directly we could easily show you its not balanced lol.
@s1l3nt ok buddy. If you really believe that your welcome to.
But again I highly doubt it...there are many strategies I’m sure you haven’t considered and many more I haven’t mentioned. It’s not about pure fire power or amount of players and you still fail to understand that. I do love being lectured by people with no naval experience ^.^ always fun and I could explain in detail how the strategies for each ship are completely different and balanced but you obviously don’t want to learn or listen.
As for increasing crew sizes I would like to see the concept of a schooner or larger ship played with to add more variety. However the current balance is fine.

I thin two are already too much for a sloop. There's really nothing to do for the second crewmate that the first can't do just as well on his own (well, maybe raising the anchor). Three on a sloop is just overkill. There should be a third type of boat that you can man with 2 or 3 persons.
@jockjammer1 said in 3 man sloop crew:
@toastywrath I'm not even referring to in game mechanics toasty,I just mean the optical look of the sloop. Dont call it a sloop if it doesnt have fore to aft rigging, that is THE defining feature that makes a sloop a sloop. I just want it to look right. speed and steering is just fine IMO.
Fair enough I apologize I missunderstood. I would also like that though I think it was more for simplicity sake. Not saying I wouldn’t LOVE the addition just my thought on why it’s like that. ^.^

I agree. Sailing the galleon is fun but with 3 people it is sometimes less practical.
As a solo Sloop captain who sinks 4 man Gal's nightly, I would be in agreement with replacing the 3 man Gal with a 3 man Sloop and increasing the Gal to 5 rather than 4. At the same time I don't really care though. I sunk 7 Gals last night, by myself. No replacement for a good captain and accurate aim. I use angles constantly and leave the Gal defenseless.
What I would like to see is at least private servers so I can get all 8 of us in one server to battle each other.
As a counterpoint, I mostly play as a 3 man Galleon and am having my crew is having no trouble at all.

However I disagree about the sloop I feel two is good ^.^ solo is more of a hard mode thing if you haven’t noticed from the constant negative posts and requests for solo player segregation.
:)
Absolutely. I was not implying sloops should only be for solo players. 1 or 2 for sloops, 2 or 3 for schoners, 3 or 4 for galleons. The smaller crew would always be the "hard mode".

This 100%. I'd love to see a 3 man sloop try to take my galleon crew with 3 on cannons lol. The problem is sometimes one of our crew is not online and we end up with either 2 in a sloop and one solo or everyone solo until our 4th gets on. It's not that we can't sail a galleon with 3 people, it's just not fun.
The argument that a 3 man sloop will somehow ruin the balance for solo players is certainly laughable seeing as how a 4 man galleon is faster and better armed@toastywrath said in 3 man sloop crew:

I agree. As a mostly solo sailor the only thing on the water that makes me nervous are the galleons. I need them there to keep me humble. lol
This would break the meta game...
3 man sloops would be op against 4 man galleon so you crank up galleons to 6 to counter that. Ok, we got it, everybody had said this.Problem is, it drastically changes gameplay. The epicness, stress and tension one experiences in battle is largely due to the fact that players are overwhelmed. Rare counts on this feeling of extreme business to make the game fun and challenging.
More people on the same boats: harder to sink boats. Boats are tanky enough as it is, especially galleons of course.
I think it's a bad idea.Check out @ShootHere4EXP 's posts on ship customisation if you haven't yet:
