[Mega Thread] - Play Anywhere, Cross Play and Balancing. (Part 2)

@return-if-found some people just don't want to play on a xbox with mouse and keyboard. I just want to play sit on my couch seeing my tv with a controller and want to play a fair game with xbox players... Pc players clearly have more advantage.

  • 0

I would like it if matchmaking grouped similar characteristics together. Some things that I think should be taken into account are as follows.

    • Platform: PC players have advantages that console players do not and so grouping people by platform makes seance to me.
    • Voice: I think players who are using the in game voice chat should be grouped with others who are also using it. Players that use party chat and other chat services is not in the spirit of the game and should be grouped separately. Also players who choose to play without voice chat should have the option to not have to play with those who are.
    • Infamy: The last and most difficult to implement is having a system that tracks a players PVP statistics and groups players of similar play-styles together.

    Just some thoughts>

So I have played many hours of this game, and had some great times and some terrible. I have a couple suggestions for the raids.

First off too many times players spawn WAAAAYYYYY to close to the raid and return to the fight mere minutes after sinking. This is aweful, and needs to be fixed. The raids become rediculius when you sink the same people several times and there is no time to actually raid.

Second of all with raids again. On multiple occasions small sloop crews sneak in and kill the boss before we are able. They then hide the skull and despawn in to troll us. This is immensely aggravating after all the work it takes to fight for the loot, then no one gets it because of a troll. I think the gam should implement a marker for the key so that people know where it is and it cannot be hidden.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sea of thieves needs to 100% get rid of cross play. Absolutely the worst thing to ever put in any game that has any PVP aspect, at all. Reload fast, eat bananas faster, literally everything fast...not to mention all the patches that are going to be needed for all the hacks that are also mostly going to come out because like everything on a pc it is 100% easier to hack an play. Sold a beta for $60 got caught its pretty sad tbh...all the hype an so much trash...maybe think about fixing the game before adding stuff, you know maybe to make it up to all the people who so far wasted their money.

@burtlangoustine agree I have ran into 2 pc players in less than a day using the sword attack speed mod. Their attacks are 10 times faster. They are getting more and more common. I play on xbox with my nephews and son. We are very upset pc players cheating are ruining our fun. I even have a 6,000 dollar custom built gaming rig. You have to be trippin on acid to think That rig vs an xbox is an equal playing field. I was doing gamepass to see if I like this game enough to buy it. I love the game but the crossplatform with pc turned me away easily.

To "git gud" play the pc version and dominate the systems that arent as powerful. Might aswell make this game for gameboy aswell so we xbox players feel better.

just adding this for those who don't understand the advantage, since mods keep locking the 100 other forum topics about this subject

Everyone keeps trying to defend the advantage that pc users keep saying they don't have. You have a distinct advantage plain and simple and here are a few reasons why.

precision device....a mouse is a precision instrument that works on all axis's simultaneously. as for the thumbstick, not so much...its clunky and moving just a fraction of a distance, or a medium distance, is tedious at best. definitely playable and enjoyable though it will never match a mouse's precision...never

keyboards and or one handed gaming keyboard, with macro functions....no matter how much you can switch the assignment buttons on a controller it will never match the speed, customization, nor macro's you can assign to your keyboard on a computer. The only way a controller shines above a keyboard for movement is in the sensitivity department. there is no sensitivity on a keyboard its either a pressed button or not. So yes its hard to walk very slow on a keyboard, but hey in combat I love to walk very slow!

order of operations...meaning input a user can do in succession.
here is an example: fire a weapon, select banana, eat banana, select weapon, select banana, eat banana
1.controller....squeeze trigger, hold left bumper, press up, let go of left bumper, squeeze trigger, hit y, squeeze trigger, hold left bumper, press up, let go of left bumper, squeeze trigger, hit y
2)keyboard and mouse.....hit left mouse bumper, hit a single key macro
even with out macro's the simple act of having to select a banana mid combat is tedious compared to a keyboards functions

I do not need to go on....these three thing alone combine to give the pc user a very distinct advantage. I could explain how about dpi, unlimited machine power, cheats, etc....but I don't need to these few thing can and do give each pc user extreme advantages in combat! Every pc player I met in the game before I quit told me that he felt it was unfair. They told me it was just way too easy and boring. Our running joke while playing was send the secret weapon! (pc user), cause they could demolish full crews of xbox players with out sweating.

then someone actual challenged what I said so I suggested this

I already stated that even with out the macro ability, its still the case. feel free to time it, do an actual test....get a stopwatch or one on your phone, do the above example with the banana on both platforms. You will find that exactly what I said is true. Then take two pieces of tape and place them in any diagonal position on your monitor. Use a mouse for ten seconds and see how many times with a mouse you can land exactly in those two spots. Switch channels to a xbox on the same monitor and count how many times you can hit the exact same spot on the same monitor. then if you want a bigger challenge after these experiments to see what I am talking about, switch to a banana during the axis tests to see which is faster. or how many times you can do that in a certain period of time.

If you have friends, invite them to do the same as well and share your results with me, please feel free to video it so I may a good laugh as I watch the expression on your face as you yourself notice the difference! ***note: in order to select a weapon, one must take his finger off the thumbstick to hit the y button, you'll be losing time there already. with the lack of precision in the thumbstick, you'll lose time as well...

After you see this, we can start talking about processing power. xbox players are limited and you can't upgrade them so the simple act of loading through the door after a death to get back into battle provides another layer to the pc advantage. Over a 3 minute battle between 4 players with the same amount of deaths on both sides I bet you lose an average of 3 seconds each spawn on the xbox as compared to a medium speed pc, more to a high end rig.

  • 3

I want to opt out of cross play. It's already become apparent that some PC players have hacks or cheats. Just a couple weeks into the games life.
To make matters worse anytime I get into an engagement with a PC player the lag is unbelievable. But I don't have an issue fighting against other Xbox players.
    No more cross play!

  • 2

I would also like cross play to END. I own both and xbox one X and a Gaming PC (i7-6700k GTX-1080, 1440 g-sync).... I play sea of thieves on my xbox.... I play most multiplayer on xbox...why???? PC hacks.....they already exist, and people are using/abusing them. Xbox WAS a place where one did not have to deal with PC hackers. Playing fields were fair. Now this.....then there's the whole Keyboard and mouse vs controller. Xboxers will lose every time. Very very disappointing move by RARE and Microsoft. I guess there's always Playstion....still a safe(r) environment from PC hackers and KBM players. Hopefully this game will migrate there, and Sony wont allow crossplay.....I guess.

  • 2

@trainwreck777 Ya exactly. The ones defending pc probly hasnt had a pc powerful enough to notice the difference. I spent 6k on my rig. I even noticed how much farther and clearer I can see than someone with a lesser rig.

  • 0

Rare is not going to divide its player base for this game.

  • 1

Lets dissolve cross play. Just read an article about pc gamers cheating....again.

Can all xbox only crews game with just xbox only crews? Is there a nice blend we can do?

Sorry just venting. The worse part with playing with pc gamers are the cheaters.

  • 1

I was just griefed in a game by a player that was asked to leave so we could have a 4th join then actually threatened me with bodily harm in game chat voice, and vowed to stay in and harass us and used racial slurs... WE SO NEED A WAY TO VOTE A PLAYER OFF OF SHIP!

  • 0

@amentaldwarfman the account was: LIMITbro who did this... witness: CrimsonShadowX6 and me! It was INSANE bullying.

  • 1

On my pc i can game with a controller. On my xbox i can game with a mouse keyboard. I can set hip and aim down site sensetivity. Set keys wherever i want them, and make macros if i wanted. The device i use to do this is no more $ than a controller. There are several options available. This whole input device argument is dumb. You can play on xbox with just xbox people. Ill still have a mouse and keyboard.
Hacking on the other hand is more popular on pc i will admit, altho can be done with greater risk on xbox.
I just dont see enough issue to change things here.

  • 2

I don't think cross play should be removed completely but I think people should be able to opt out of crossplay like in fortnite.

In that game it has improved my enjoyment as it levels the playing field just a bit and doesn't increase wait times for a match.

  • 2

I'm an xbox player and think crossplay should be optional as it is going to kill the game for xbox players.

Not only the in-built advantages of M&K, which I don't care about, but all the hacks some PC players will use; a quick google reveals the ones already available, there will be more to follow.

It will kill the fun for me and other xbox players and destroy what was a fantastic game in the testing phases.

I'm not sure if this is the best thread to post this, but I've had this issue a few times now, and it is really frustrating. I play on my Xbox, and a few times my connection to the server has been dropped while I'm trying to bring a chest back to port. When you log back in, as you know, everything you've done in your previous sessions has been wiped. I think there should be some way for the game to recognize you were dropped, and in those situations when you log back in you still have your chests. I want to clarify that I'm not asking for a way be able to quit because you are about to sink, but rather for the game to detect legitimate communications disruptions, and to not punish someone who has spent an hour tracking down some chickens, only to lose everything at the end because some packets got dropped.

  • 1

Can we PLEASE have the "option" to turn cross play off? I'm so sick of running into a PC modders. It might only happen twice a week, but Rare you put emphasis on the rewards to be cosmetics to provide a level playing field, but yet you allow modders to come in and ruin my experience. I left PC for this reason, now I have to experience it on console, REALLY? very frustration and can easily be corrected. All cross play games I've played have this option, please implement it. It's to bad these modders ruin the chance for me wanting to play with PC players.

  • 0

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I love the cross play component. Sure if you are good with a mouse you can aim better. Sure there will be some people who mod/cheat. Of course peoplr will kill you and take your booty, but that is just part of the game. Part of becoming a pirate legend is working with your crew to overcome these odds. The PvP component does not demand a normal fps engagement, you can bait, trick, and manuever your way to victory just as well as shoot your way.

Just as a smart one man crew can outfox a 4 man crew, a sneaky consol player can win against a pc player and vice versa.

  • 0

    @foxgod1 i agree

  • 1

    @holyskin

I think they should add an option to turn off the cross-platform because players have a clear advantage on pc suppose to the Xbox controller. It would make for more fair and skillfull gameplay

  • 0

    @holyskin

What about people like me who use a controller on PC? I just prefer the higher quality graphics, unlocked frame rate, lower platform cost, and communication abilities of a PC.

You could plug a keyboard and mouse into Xbox just as easily as I plug a controller into a PC.

@jumpiestdust213 switching to banana during combat can be made fast on the xbox, just hotkey it to the dpad so you don't have to use the radial menu, super easy to do and eliminates the banana problem, thefore that is no longer a valid complaint

switching it to a different position like the d pad though that takes away from the radial button can quicken the process, but it doesn't stop the fact that then you have to take one of your thumbs off of either thumbstick which stops the ability to move your character or aim with your character at the same time. As where on a pc you can do all three and eat the banana simultaneously with ease. So very good thinking on your part, but sadly you are wrong.

  • 0

@jumpiestdust213 well for me at least I do not have to take my thumb off of he stick, as I can just map the dpad button I need to one of the paddles on my elite controller

But even without the elite controller that still makes it way way faster than having to go through the radial menu

Though you could also map it to a click of the right stick and then only have move your thumb once to switch back to weapons

  • 0

@spr1nk yeah I agree totally man, that it can be quickened. That simple example wasn't the issue though. If it was just the banana example I would concur that there is not a huge advantage. Its all the little issues that add up is where the huge difference comes into play. The simple act of getting a elite controller to enjoy one game is not a viable option for me, just like the get a keyboard and mouse for one game isn't either. The real solution that is most viable is the option to just turn off crossplay like every other competitive crossplay title has. This is a huge oversight on rare's part.

ps. Even the differences between computer to computer and their respective specs causes other computer players to have advantages over other pc players. This fact is well known across the pc gaming world and has been so since the creation of the internet. I am a pc player, and have been on competitive fps squads since delta force or before. I have always built my own with the strategy to not bottle neck and one component. This strategy has enabled me on my pc to keep up with the best through out the years. At one time I was on a squad called delta force legends, we were one of the top 3 squads in the world. I wouldn't have been able to keep up with a barebone machine and be as good no matter if my reflexes with a mouse are around .5 seconds when the average user is at 1.0

  • 1

Uh. Just ran into the first pc cheaters. They used aimbot. We stopped playing after we died. 4 cannons, 4 deaths, sunken ship by the time we respawned.

I reported them of course to yall, but uh. This wouldnt have happened if we were playing on xbox only servers.

I dont mind mouse users. I mind cheaters.

  • 0

@jumpiestdust213 my biggest thing is I just don't want crossplay turned off, I play on both xbox and pc, but really the reason I haven't fully switched to pc for all my gaming is I can't play with my friends if I do, so being able to play on pc and still play with them in this game is really nice, I'm actually quite a bit worse with a mouse and keyboard, but I still prefer it over a controller as it's more comfortable to me

    @pikaaroon
Forced cross play is going to kill this game. Most battles between competent crews come down to close quarters combat where mouse and keyboard have an advantage over controllers. PC chat options are also a problem, they can hear you but not the other way as intended. Also Xbox users are subjected to cheaters, it does happen.
This all serves to ruin the game and makes playing on Xbox seem pointless. There is no harm in adding the option to crossplay or not.

I feel you, me and my girlfriend play together all the time and we play on xbox. I can say for my self that I am not bad in aiming with Controller cause my aiming in Overwatch is ok. I also use the fastest Stick sens on SoT. Buut its to slow. It should be faster. 100% at the moment is to slow. Make it up to 200% cause I cant use my muscle memory on my sticks. Turning around takes sooo long, makes it imposible to keep up with the pc guys! Realy no fun! And that will kill the game if Rare does not change stick sense or implement an option to choose between only xbox and pc platform

Before you all say I’m an Xbox fanboy and I keep being killed by PC players so I’m complaining about it here, stop right there. I play on both, mainly PC. PC is insanely better than Xbox. I have my sensitivity on 3.4 and I can do a 720 in one jump (not even jumping off of something just jump up and down from the ground.) On Xbox you can have your sensitivity all the way up and it’s like 1/4 of a 360. It’s insane. It happens so fast that when I play with my friends (while I’m on PC and they are on Xbox) it doesn’t even register. They can’t see me even spin. This is a simple fix. Make servers for: Xbox Only. PC Only. And Both. Simple. I’m tired of sinking and getting killed by these 720 FaZe trickshotters when my friends are on Xbox and can’t do anything to defend themselves. Seriously fix it, it’s a big issue. Not only do they have that advantage but they can easily switch weapons WAY faster. On PC you can shoot your blunderbuss and switch to your sword so quick that it literally looks like you shot your sword just by barely scrolling the middle mouse. Not to mention you can have hot keys for literally EVERY item on PC. Cross play also tends to make servers (especially for Xbox players) lag quite a lot.
This problem needs to be resolved quick.

I'm currently on Page two of this mega thread and I agree completely with various PC advantages. I feel like there is one that hasn't been addressed yet and thus this is me adding my 2 shillings.

Not only do PC gamers get a near on aim bot tracking ability when it comes to aiming, and not only do they get uncapped FPS

But one of the most agonizing advantages are that I play with a PC gamer (I am on Xbox, I have a PC tho) and he has a 30second+ advantage with not just loading into a game but respawning too....now

Let's for an example say, two sloops go side by side, one is Xbox and one is PC, both players kill each other at the same exact time.....I can now GUARANTEE I'm going to be camped by the PC player, as not only does he respawn quicker but this time allows for him to bum the banana crate on his boat, and position himself where I'm still yet to spawn and the ganking starts. I have played on the PC for near on over 15 years, I've played console since the megadrive, and it's absurd that still to this day people defend the fact that the PC smashes and p****s all over controllers. Personally as I have problems with my computer that I don't have the energy to sort out (too many years fixing computers has killed my interest in even looking at them, however legacy wow might bring me back) and so I will be saving up for an XIM, which will be completely unfair in any FPS game, and however much I shouldn't HAVE to buy more tech to compete, I feel like nothing anyone does is going to balance the scales as they are on the completely opposite sides of the world, one is an elephant and one is a mouse, guess which is which, and stand up for your PC M/K all you want, we all know the truth and it's sadly turning me away from this game as we see more and more PC players and I suspect a few have had hacks at arm's length which is yet another reason cross play isn't the best idea, the concept is amazing granted but in reality it's almost any racing game that doesn't force classes, whereas you only have a 300hp car available, and they instantly pick the 700hp car, it doesn't matter if you're the better racer, you take corners better, it absolutely doesn't matter, they catch up and keep up and dominate you. It's unfair and needs to be addressed. In this last week I've probably played 130-150 hours, on at least 3 occasions I was enjoying this game so much I ended up going to sleep at 8am....I love this game, it's been a long time since I've really dug a game and now with each session I'm trying to get a Fort done, a 4man crew in a galleon (sometimes 3 Galleons) full of PC players come and screw me, I have had major success in sloop vs galleon fights when the galleons are console players, I seldom lose, and then the PC guys come along and smash the living poo out of me and it really upsets me, I actually get angry and sad at the same time because as life has got on, there are less things I enjoy and after finding something I can really enjoy to just have it torn up and ripped out from underneath me is depressing as f**k. I am comfortable with 2vs4 unfair odds (I think there needs to be some balancing done with regards to out manned, this isn't 'Sea Of Galleons" or even "Sea of Galleon Only Forts") if I'm on the same playing field as them, it's exciting and thrilling, but when you bring aimhacks (the comparison between controller and M/K is basically aimhacks) it's devastating spending hours and not getting anywhere at all....time is money they say and currently the state of this game is nothing but a waste of money until they address the absolutely obvious humongous elephant in the room.

Regarding the respawns I'm not sure what they can do, adding a spawn timer won't help because you'll still be stuck in a loading screen some times a minute longer than PC players, I have an Xbox S so I don't feel like I should be sat on the loading screen an absurd amount of time longer than somebody on a below par laptop

  • 0

I also feel like people should be locked into servers for at least three hours, and majorly increase the spawn of skull clouds as I find the biggest problem is PC Galleons server hopping (sure I do it too but I'm on console so no advantage, also I play sloop so always at a disadvantage vs galleons in the first place) who go from server to server disrupting and annihilating anyone trying to do skull forts, so the presence is always there as they get the Forts done so fast they are then griefing another server and thus the problem persists.

Locked
