[Mega Thread] - Play Anywhere, Cross Play and Balancing. (Part 2)

I don't know if this is the place to post this, but PC absolutely NEEDS higher FOV settings for ultrawide users. 90 FOV is way too tight

  • 3

@holyskin That is what needs to happen... kbm support for console is possible and it needs to be implemented. Playstation already supports it. Just as people prefer kbm, there are other players that prefer controller as well, and are very good with them. I am not one of them. Thats why instead of playing the game like its COD, be more tactical. I will stay with controller on this game. Disadvantage or not. There are sensitivity settings for both in this game.

  • 0

It's needed segregate servers by region (North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania). It is impossible to have a fair fight with other players who have a much smaller ping than you!

  • 1

@leo-villaz This isn't a problem, the game already tries to put you in a server with people near you. I can tell because of the number of people from where I live that I've run into. Our population is way too small for me to randomly run into them this much.

  • 0

@kewlf00l pc can join party chat on xbox. I do it all the time. As for game chat, it seems in game settings needs to be set to speakers and not headphones. Im not sure why it makes a difference but it does. I heard a random player talking but my sloopmate which was using xbox could not. He changed his settings to speakers like mine was set to for pc and suddenly he could hear him too.

  • 0

@ygdrad Since alpha, I've never played with any other player from the same country that I am ... at most a few players from Argentina. But I'm always playing with players from the USA, Canada or even from Europe, but in relation to players from South America I rarely encounter one. So I do not think the servers have any configuration that can track the players by connecting IP.

  • 3

I would love to see an option to enable or disable cross play.

Not just for the KBM v controller argument but also the loading times. Players on pc can load back onto their ship after being killed faster than a console player videos on YouTube have confirmed this .

And in some cases during a ship v ship batttle a console player takes 30s to 1 minuet longer on loading screens then a pc player.

I’m not hating or bashing people who play on PC so please don’t think that.

I game on console as do All my friends so why would I buy a pc just to have an advantage I just want the game to be fair for all which is what Rare has said multiple times they wanted a fair and balanced game

  • 1

I have to add that in addition to the aim advantage something seems to be going on with xrossplay latency. Me and my Xbox friends move smooth across each others screens. My brothers gf has started playing on PC and she moves around the screen at what seems to be a lower frame rate. I've noticed it before in combat but never got to really see it up close in a non competitive context. So on top of having Superior aim and frame rate they also are very hard to even see properly. What the hell guys?

  • 1

I understand (but disagree with) the reason of limiting crew size to 4 but can we please have a way to reliably get a group of friends onto the same server so we can have 2 crews playing together? Trying to divide 5 people into 2 crews while being on the same server is a nightmare. It's purely a game of chance and hoping we can spawn in on the same server.

  • 0

PC mouse is much quicker than xbox stick. Everyone knows this. The question is when will the auto aim hacks start coming out on the PC side?

@holyskin I encourage crossplay. The issue is the MODs that are being applied by PC players. There is a headshot MOD. Was killed continuously the other night without a missed shot by an entire PC crew with a blunderbuss. Jump shots, facing backwards shots, and through structures. Then today it was cannonball headshots always at full health. Destroyed my entire crew with single headshots one after another... I do not want crossplay to go away but for love of all that is holy the MODs must cease or it will never be a happy environment. This game is making history and these few disgruntled cheaters are ruining the atmosphere with their scallywag stench. All of you gamers should be policing each other. If a positive gaming world is to exist via cross play we have to make it happen. Cheers!

  • 2

Starting to think that people should boycott this game till Rare and Microsoft take this cross platform out or at least let us choose to do just xbox, cross platform, or PC only in an option menu or something because I know for fact that a mouse with a built in sensitivity adjustment overrides their "balancing" and PC people who go to the fairy of the damned load fast when returning to the ship, and lastly the modding that is rampant on PC.

    Case in point...

You can flame me if you want but I've seen it with my own eyes. Unless players running on water faster than a ship at full sail for over the distance a cannon ball can fire is a thing I can do...oh and be invincible with a rapid fire blunder buss.

This seriously needs to be addressed. It's a fun game when it's a level playing field.

@holyskin disse em [Mega Thread] - Play Anywhere, Cross Play and Balancing. (Part 2):

Share this link with your friends on social media, if you’re likeminded (or even if you’re not), let’s make #RAREaware

I would like there to be an option to opt out of crossplay when starting a crew, this is an ongoing debate regarding keyboard and mouse users vs controller users.
Im a veteren gamer and have been playing both console and pc for over 20 years.
I'm playin this game on xbox with my children (this is why i play on xbox and not pc since its quite expensive to buy 3 pc to game on)

Now I don't want to hear people deffend this argument because frankly, you cant support it. It is a well known FACT that KBM is superior to usiing a controller when shooting or pvping. Yes i know this game isn't hard core but ya know what? It kinda is. Yes its not twitchy but when you've spent a few hours of game time collecting chests to have it all lost to players that have a unfair advantage with aiming, movement and shooting something has to be done.

Now i have played this game on pc and xbox and it is literally a night and day differnce, a controller canno't match the precision and tracking that a pointing device can. For all of you adults out there, imagine using your xbox controller to naviage an EXCEL spread sheet or file a online banking report, its horrible, its slow and clunky and you 'over shoot' your target area.

I am feeling bitter that on console i am limited to this controller which is far sub par to a pointing device. So although this game is not 'competetive (you kidding right? - its competetve when im trying to protect my treasure) its unfair to effectivly force players to fight in unfair circumstances and potential undo hours of work.

I asked my child (he's 6 bless him) to try playing on a pc and although he was slow with the keyboard, i was asking him to shoot at pigs and chickens and he was simply pointing and clicking, no misses, and quite frankly fast aiming, on a controller its another story, slow and clumsy, to add to this when I play, i feel the sensativity needs a massive boost to be even close to competing with pc users on KBM. - yes scoped sniping is slow on both but DPI mouses can fix that.

Watch some streamers, watch some YT videos and you can see the pc guys pivoting on the spot, doing rapid 180 turns, with a greater situational awareness and then getting on target and tracking a moving target flawlessly – no they are not pros, its just super easy to do.

I would like to see this topic sensibly addressed and I would like to know what the devs will do about it, i'm all for KBM support for the consoles as far as cross play games go, thought i suspsect thats a barrier with microsoft.

Games like gears of war 4 have cross play and a toggle for it, rocket league too, its the playign field is fair you'll have a healthier and happier player base, for people that don't care about this ' handicap' let them play with their pc friends or vice versa – im all for that element, but please dont force us to play together if we do not want too.

The team at RARE are smart and talented guys, ive been playing their games for donkeys years, im talkign about RC pro, solar jetman, battle toads, goosebumps, banjoo and kazooie – you name it! LOVE the team, but I find it hard to see that they could have missed this one, im also aware they spent considerable time trying to balance toe 2 input devices but when you restrict a controller movement so slow and leave hip fire sensativity on a mouse lightning fast, its quite frankly absurd that nobody thought this wasn't going to be a problem.

So there you have it, please address this you wonderful guys – I want to get behind this game but the uneven playing fiend is killing my energy and passion for what can only be described as a dropped ball :(

    Totally agree with that.

There is no headshot multiplier so it doesn’t matter where they shoot you. Yes there are hacks. Go look on YouTube. One hack puts a purple box around a player that shows up they walls etc. But I’m calling BS on your cannon ball headshot claim...

    1. How do you know it was a headshot?

2 you’ll die in 1 shot from a direct hit

    1. You’re exaadurating your claim and it makes you less credible. No need to bend the truth to make a more impactful point, k?

Give us an option to allow/deny players from joining your game. Me and a buddy just finished a skeleton raid, only for one of us to D/C. By the time he was able to boot the game back up, the game was already filled by a random.

Another use case is when you have a crew of 3 sailing as a galleon and you're waiting for your 4th buddy to come on. It would be nice to deny any access to the game lobby, so we can save a spot for him.

    Thanks.

@holyskin very unbalanced cross platform due to pc users. Already encountered some serious hackers. Ive seen ships that were unsinkable and immortal pirates that could take insane amounts of damage. If they enabled an opt out option that would certainky curtail a lot of the hacking I think.

  • 1

@traz0r Controller vs a mouse and keyboard is not a level playingfield. I dont mind playing a gainst pc, but I do mind playing against mouse and keyboard and cheats of course.

To be fair I’ve not encounters much that I would consider a hack YET except for last week when we were being chased by a Gallion (we were also on a Gallion) I was at the wheel and I got 1 shot killed by a bullet from 100%hp I excused that. Then my 3 buddies were alll killed that close together that we were all in the ferry of the damned at the same time scratching our heads in disbelief. The worse part was, one of our guys was below deck when he died and the enemy ship was close but not within range to do that kind of shot considering water turbulence and with the boat swaying. There was no explaining that. Still scratching my head now.

Yeah, when I said "level playing field" I meant going I was fighting against other Xbox players.

Simply put, the Play Anywhere concept is a Microsoft concept and until they bring out a Wireless/USB keyboard and mouse for the XBone(X) that makes it possible for the 2 platforms to compete, there will always be a divide.

@holyskin I am not sure if you wear headphones, or if the audio is stereo or mono on console. I know on pc I can hear where they are because I have good headphones. It is no different when your playing CSGO or COD and you hear some guy running by a wall, except in this case it is some dude talking. Also they more than likely will be telling their crew what they are about to do which allows you to abuse said information. This isn't anything that needs balancing though. This is more of players not playing the game long enough to realize this.

In this moment the real problem is the high ping not cross-play, Mouse or Joypad differences is nothing if a player have 40ms and the others have 200+ ms.

I'm luck and I ping normally 80ms sometimes up to 200ms, but we need to play all at 15-40ms.

I hope it will be solved

  • 1

After watching this YouTube video it’s clear we need an option to toggle cross play off.

I feel sorry for the legitimate pc players out there that are playing the game as it was intended.

Watch this video and tell me if forced crossplay is still a good idea

@bg-cartortroy I really hope Rare and Microsoft see this and come down h*****n. Anyone using hacks like this.

@holyskin i think before sea of thieves goes much further a serious issue needs to be fixed for the pc version.
im talking of course about the Microsoft store downloads. put simply there is no other way to describe them except CANCER. they are pure cancer.
a dedicated loader for sea of thieves is needed for several reasons.

    1. the download isn't stable from the store, it frequently bugs out resetting itself and adding the full amount of dl on top of the already existing dl. pausing it is practically a death sentence and the dl become corrupted.
    2. broken downloads are really hard to remove from your pc. im literally missing 30 gigs on my pc that iv tried several help guides to reclaim but don't seem to work for me.
    3. there is no estimation time on the dl.
    4. i have to go to the store page to get an update even though the old game is still running. i was confused by this.. i had my client open and i was downloading the update.. from the store.
anyway to sum up pretty much everything i want to say, the game needs a dedicated loader that doens't screw up, either that or move the game to a 3rd party site that has an actual loader that doesn't make your player base hate your guts for wasting their time. i mean idk about anyone else but i payed $100 AUD for my game and i didn't get a black dog pre order dlc, and i certainty didn't get $100 worth of game development. i could buy 3 full decent games on steam for $100 and iv never had a problem with the steam down loader. my question to rare is how long do you think the players that are "hanging in there" will take to get sick of the hassle and go elsewhere.. because i am about 1 failed download short of asking for a refund.

So, I've played a lot recently. I'm a PC gamer, ultrawide 3k 95 Hz display, gamer mouse, the works.

I've almost exclusively met Xbox players, and my local friends play on PC but with Gamepads. I've also tried the gamepad a little.

    Here are my observations:

    • as a seasoned shooter player, I outperform most xbox players in terms of aim speed and accuracy. There's no contest. In PvE, I rarely miss ANY shots. In PvP, I have accuracy that makes me think that maybe PC mouse players also have the console auto-aim enabled? the pistol is basically as accurate as the eye of reach for me.

    • movement speed and grace is much greater for me with keyboard and mouse than with the gamepad, but I've seen xbox players move swiftly and deflty as well, maybe even moreso than myself.

    • swimming, especially diving, is hard with the mouse. I wish I could use my jump (and my nonexistent duck) keys to swim up or down, like in most shooters since Half Life 1.

    • cannon aiming is MUCH HARDER on PC if you are NOT using a controller. The mouse has more precision, but can't follow targets with the cannons, and this is a fast game.

    • cannon aiming is doubly difficult for me because I play with inverted mouse Y, yet the keyboard mappings don't invert when controlling an object like sails or, more importantly, cannons.

    • the eye of reach has a MUCH SLOWER lateral aiming speed with a mouse than with a controller, but I'm still ten times as accurate with the mouse (I am very terrible with a controller)

    • orienting oneself inside the ship's claustrophobic hull is easier with a mouse, especially when under attack.

    • ship steering feels both more sensitive and more finely controllable with the analog stick on a controller vs. with the keyboard keys.

    • radial menus are MUCH HARDER for keyboard players, I use DEL for the radial (cursors to move), but I can't customize the radial "MORE" menu, so I have, with my left hand, touch DEL and F at the same time to get to my musical instruments, or the watch. I have huge hands, so I'm probably one of the few people on the planet that can do that.

    • radial menus feel clumsy with the mouse, I wish I could mouse-wheel cycle through my inventory; and use another key to cycle weapons

    • melee, especially charge-dashing, doesn't work for me with the mouse. my player gets stuck, panting, I can't turn my view, etc... feels VERY buggy. That said, I reliably kill scores of skeletons with that super attack; but I can't use it to move about faster, or versus players.

    • xbox players seem to have voice more often than PC players

    • xbox players sometimes have younger voices, I guess more kids but I'm very kid friendly (though I see SoT more in the league of PUBGs than in the league of Minecrafts)

So, my confession, I still fiendishly enjoy Crossplay because I've been PINING for a FPS where I could "teach console peasants a lesson" (take that bit in good humour, please :)), but I'd like to say that except for some super fast twitch aiming situations, my advantage is palpable, but not all that high, considering the broad spectrum of game mechanics at play in a PvP battle in this game.

That said, if PC players were locked into their own realm, it would be the most lonely place in the world. Please don't do that to us.

Completely agree that crossplay needs an optional toggle, its completely unfair and to be forced to play with pc players is B******t. Not just that but if in future we get the option, and if we choose to partake in crossplay we should be able to use m/kb on console, atleast then the only advantage left would be the ridiculously long loading times for xbox users to get back from the ferry of the dammed, well that and the ability to hack.......... pathetic losers.

Get ready Xbox one gamers the game for us is going to worse here in the next months with the PC players mixed with low system that Xbox has compared to any PC there have higher frames per second better graphics u name PC gamers have a big time advantage over us Xbox players not to mention all the large clans getting formed on the sea of thieves fourms this game with soon be like rust on PC it's a whole game of just clan wars if ur a new preson u stand no chance putting PC gamers and Xbox one gamers is a very bad idea big time but this might be the fall of this game for consule users unfortunately but time will tell

@squeaky-hammer in reply to my own post.
im uninstalling the game and asking for a refund.
Microsoft store for the pc version is insufficient to maintain any long term play for this game
i do NOT recommend players buy or play this game until a stable stand alone loader can provide the pc player base with sufficient means to download and upload this game.
within a week of official release and the the worst download experience of my life (and iv played Korean mmo's before they had loaders) rare released a replacement client! a week! that is extremely poor development right there. its unfair to the play base and whats more the insufficient nature of Microsoft store as a download/update platform stacked against this uncaring move on rares part really paints a terrible picture about what sort of further bad development we can expect.
Microsoft store wont even let me download the new client. whats it been 2 days? 3 days? iv downloaded close to 40 gigs but it keeps crashing out and resetting. i had the same problem with the 1st download. its ridiculous that a 20 gig download is giving players so much grief.

  • 0

Plain and simple- the turning speed is too slow on console, even at the highest sensitivity setting. It's even worse when you're on the wheel/ladder/water, taking nearly 5 seconds to do a full rotation, while a mouse does not have these turn speed limitations. Accuracy and gunplay is NOT the problem, but the overall sensitivity disparity is.

  • 0

I also feel there should be an option for Xbox players to make it so enemies can not hear your crew chat.
I see a lot of PC players (just watch Twitch for a while) where they are on Discord in the background and can also listen to other people using crew chat while the PC players can not be heard since they are on discord.
I love to use crew chat just for the interaction with other crews, so far this led to a lot of fun moments.
Now when I noticed this on Twitch, I rarely go into crew chat anymore.
