@tedakin I saw the stream and the added content that they haven't talked about or wasn't in the beta is minimal so I'm still going to say that the beta was close to final release.

If I'm wrong please enlighten me on all the new things that we didn't know about before.

people also said that the beta was only 20% of the content, we can finally put that silly notion to rest.

But there is a lot of stuff not in the betas that's in the final game. Saying it's just a beta applies here......

Why do people on both sides get so offensive + offended ?

From my PoV, a lot of depth is added by multiplayer interaction alone. While fights etc. don't really matter (after all, items don't really matter either), it's still pretty exciting.

On the other hand, it is fair to say there is not much content (yet). For example, currently there are only skeletons. Whether you kill them for a quest, they spawn unexpectedly, or you raid a fortress, it is always the same skeletons.

Whether progression is horizontal or not, I think expecting a dynamic world full of different sorts of adventures is not unreasonable - so I hope that will be added quickly

This game has been in development since 2014, so they have had 4 years to develop this game and have done more than a dozens of playtests (alpha and beta)

Ita a beta bro. Besides, betas always come .. or they are supposed to... near the end of the games development, then release happens. So please understand what a beta is before you bash on the people for saying its a beta. Also 4 years is actually a pretty quick time frame.

I was going to buy it but not now after I've seen the community and what the game actually is, a watered down version of blackwake with fetch quest and a $60 price tag.

@ichnich89 Yeh, I don't get it either. Maybe people just like lording it over noobs with their epic gearz.

I'm looking forward to a game that offers such a clean interface and such open endedness. No more chasing loot just so I can do something else, that gives me a better loot to kill something else, that gives better loot... well, you see where this is going. As for PVP, the only loss is your pride and maybe a chest or two, making it much more fun in my opinion.

@ichnich89 Like I said more weapons, quest that arn't fetch quests, fishing, card/dice games, crouching.. like most of the things that has been talked about in these forums for over 6 months.

You’re just telling everyone there isn’t enough content, but you’re never explaining what the game lacks?

I mean, people tried to explain that there’s more to the game than just quests and pvp and shooting and so on...
A lot of people want numbers, like gear or damage numbers or an icon for how long your breath is holding under water. But come on... What happened to “the way is the goal”... Have fun playing the game and don’t rush to the famous “end game” everyone is so eager to reach. And especially: skill makes a good pirate, not his gear level.

I still don’t know what you want from the game. A card game? Fishing? Cleaning the deck? A brothel?

@the-warcrombie true, the sword & gun play is fairly simple, but there's an inherent risk in creating needless complexity in a combat system. Pirates weren't exactly highly trained swordsman, or marksman, they were criminals that worked s****y jobs on ships.

That said, the canons are about right, which is where the crew's bread and butter are.

I'm not saying this game is perfection incarnate, far from it, what I'm saying is people are expecting something it's not, even though Rare have made clear what it is. It's not a pirate sim, it's a fun game to play with your friends.

Tell me another game you can get legless drunk, puke in a bucket, then throw it on your mates?

This idea that the sliver of fun we've seen from the beta tests is 'the game' is totally wrong. There's enough information on this out there, it just seems some of us are refusing to find it.

I don't get why anyone would give the game a thumbs down from a beta experience, it baffles me to be honest.

@sortius I do enjoy pirate games. of the 3 ive played recently ALTHOUGH FUN SoT has the least unique combat system.

Complexity and depth work independently, and you can have complex games that are shallow, as well as simple games that are deep (as the video states: Go). This game, while not the deepest game on the planet, offers a simple environment for players to create complex scenarios.

If you think that the game will 'die quickly', well, I don't have a crystal ball, but I've seen both complex and simple games 'die quickly', as well as both shallow and deep games. The success of the game is not necessarily determined by complexity or depth, but by how enjoyable the experience is.

If you're telling me that you didn't enjoy sailing the seas as a pirate, sailing with randoms or sailing alone, plundering gold, fighting other crews, and generally just enjoying the mechanics of sailing, then that sounds like you're not that into pirate games. It's hardly a failing of the game if it's about a subject you don't like.

@dewradley To be fair though, one of the shipwrights I was chatting with mentioned a "Someladies revenge" ship she is building. This ship is going to have a larger jib(front sail) and extra row of cannons. So it would seem that the "No stat increase" rule isn't ironclad. I'm guessing that ship is for Legendary pirates/captains for when the game is launched.

Well if it was dropped from the game why continue getting excited about it when you found that out? I mean if that was a make it or break it for you why expect to see it when told it wasnt going to be in. So you're telling me people were led astray because they weren't paying attention since the game was announced years ago? Sorry but just about every game in existence has dropped an idea or two since they announced the concept to the public. That's what happens through the developing phase they find out what the tech theyre working with allows them to create. Some stuff from the brainstorm phase doesn't make the cut. Happens often.
