Plants?

  • First off I'd like to acknowledge where I got the idea, thanks to @Ironuzuka.

I've seen plenty of requests about animals in SoT, but what about Plants? Where you could try to find different types of foods and flowers. We know pets are going to be in game so what about getting a quest from the merchant alliance to get coconuts and sending your monkey up a tree to grab a couple? What type of plants would you like to see? What are your thoughts on this idea?

  • Haha love the pic, brings me way back, the feeeels!

  • @lord-boblet The pets are not supposed to be anything but cute and funny to look at, and they will only be optainable through microtransactions.
Animals you find through out the world are simply meant as cargo for the trade company.

  • @kampp322 No reason the trade company may not want plants, coconuts, and other various fauna in the future.

  • @kampp322 Surely plants can be cargo too. Spices, Tea and Tobacco are one example of common plants trading back in the days. I already mentioned but since we can drink poison (alcohol) maybe we could smoke it too (Tobacco, MJ).

  • @touchdown1504 Sorry I was reffering to the idea of animals helping you, the idea of actual plant cargo is more than probabel.

  • @kampp322 All good! I personally don't see a problem with animals fetching ONE item at a time. Especially if it is random. You know, tell my monkey, go find something, comes back with A plank, or A banana, or A cannon ball. That would not be game breaking or unbalancing at all.

  • @lord-boblet There are those bell shaped plants in game, which I always thought ought to shoot some sort of hallucinatory pollen at you as you brushed past, but as well as that, I'd love to see fungi or mushrooms to feed the piggies or perhaps wild wheat or barley for the chickens, mangoes for the parrots but especially berries and such for that mysterious potion shop owner?

  • @touchdown1504 I suppose if it where only visual it be okay, if you would be able to gather it at the same rate. But then again, it would only be cosmetic.

  • @kampp322 gathering just one of something would not make a difference. Honestly, sending the pet off for ONE item would be a hassle. Easier to go get it yourself.

  • @katttruewalker said in Plants?:

Nice, lets give the Devs the idea we can walk past a plant and be infected by hallucinogenic spores! Whose side are you on?

  • @touchdown1504 THE ADVENTURE'S SIDE!!!!

  • @katttruewalker yeah! It be sick if they added environmental danger of some sort. Or maybe just a reason to jump off and gather stuff.

I have also been thinking that at some point you are going to run out of stuff to buy, so would't resources be a great thing to add to the stores, as like a one time purcheas per ship?

  • @katttruewalker I wondered if those might be man-eaters... or chicken-eaters.

Some type of flexible tree that players could pull back and launch another player from -- like launching players from cannons -- could be fun.

Frond-covered pitfalls might be fun traps if done right.

In the Pacific islands, sago palms were ground up to make flour. They have sharp leaves and stalks. It might be fun if something like that -- perhaps a thorny plant with fruit on top -- offered players healing food but at risk of further injury. Cut it from the right distance and you win the fruit, but get too close and you might die trying to heal yourself.

Big elephant ear -type leaves could be used for short-distance gliding. Pirates could use them to descend quickly but safely from cliffs, to try boarding enemy ships from cliffside, or just for shenanigans.

  • I noticed that most islands through out the rest of the vast jungles an brush and grass had a unique flower or plant ir mushroom that didnt match the rest of the art.they looked almost as if they are to be harvested for something. perhaps crafting potions?

  • Yea, that would be nice.

  • As long as they don't make this a farm game! Every idea of Wild Fruits and Special Plants sounds cool to me! =D

    Cheers!
