[Mega Thread] - Cross Play (Part 1)

  • 1

@knightx13 This is the main reason I'm getting this game, I'm on xbox but got friends on PC who I don't get to play with. But now...

  • 2

I think, Cross Play will be fun for some players who are Xbox players and have their friends on PC or opposite.

But for the most players on Xbox this Crossplay experience with MnK players on PC, will after time be more frustrating than enjoyable.
I know this game is not only fighting at all, but fights between players are there and they have to be fair for everyone.

Its a fact that players with Mouse and Keyboard have an massiv advantage over players who plays with an Xbox Controller. Its not only that you can be quiker and more precise in combat situations with a Mouse, its also that you can controll your Movement with a Keyboard, in a way that you can just hardly reach with a limitied controller. And not everyone has an Xbox Elite Controller with extra padles, and want to buy one. Plus dont forget these Players who uses Makros on their Keyboard.

The simple solution is, the Game should have a Option to enable or disable Crossplay, for those of us who want an fair Experience on the same Level for everyone. Otherwise Rare will lose masiv amount of players over a short time, when the players start to acknowledge that the fight, they are fighting is not on the same level, and this will lead to frustrated players who are gone forever for this Game.

  • 2

Crossplay seems fine if you're able to enable it. The overall movement and aim is just more accurate for PC player's (wich is acctualy completly gamebreaking for XB1 player's). If you want to play with friends it seems ok but at least give us an option to enable crossplay so you just play XBPlayers vs XBPlayers without giving the PC players the unfair advantage in therms of aim and movement again the consol players. It is a PVP game and it should be fair. So just put an "enable crossplay" option in there so that XBPlayers don't get copmlitly wreked by some tryharding PC guys

  • 0

Keep cross play in. I like playing with my friends who have an Xbox. But put the option in for those who don't want to, their loss.

  • 1

@mr-barbecque it's not about the sensetivity and response. It is about the fakt that your overall movement and aim is much better with an MnK. You could see it in BF3/BF4 etc. guys who played with XiM adepter and complitly outplayed most of the XB Players. MnK on consol is just an unfair advantage when it comes to egoshooter/PVP Games. Much faster reaction and way more precise cuz of the mouse. I understand the guys who want to play with his friends on PC/XB1 but there need to be an "disable CP" option for those who don't want to get farmed away by some skillless PC tryhard who's enjoing killing ppl with a massive disadvantage (XB Controller).

I think users on Xbox should have a full-text chat option or at least an option to say which platform you are using. I got matched with PC players who weren't using mics, and only text chat which I could not use due to being on Xbox.

Nobody is talking about removing cross play from the game. We just want the option to deactivate cross play, if we want to play only with/against other xbox players without a handicap and we should be able to do so.

People that want to play with/against players from a different plattform still can do that.

What's the argument against having an option to opt out of cross play?

Edit: Nevermind. I'm a bit heated about this subject and they definitely should keep cross play in with the option to turn it off for those that want to play without a handicap. Apologies.

Very much looking forward to cross play. During the stress test my group of friends was a mix of Xbox and PC players, myself being on PC, was a blast.

  • 0

There were some lag issues with the last test but I would assume thats due to it being a stress test. I was playing PC and was baffled how people were able to survive so many close range hits from my blunderbuss when fighting on a ship until i heard one guy mid combat comment on how I missed three times to his crew when I got hit markers on every shot thats when I figured out likely lag was causing the hits to not count

So I would hold off judgement on some of the combat differences until the build is more stable as I sure its causing a lot of peoples underlying issues

So hey guys - been following SoT from a distance for a while now (just purchased XB1 soley cus of it and paid off preorder on SoT), and I need to ask has Rare officially stated anything in terms of crossplay problems such as players reporting that PC players have more 'accuracy' with a mouse/keyboard and has there been any evidence of macros, or any other outside influence over a PC player in game? Just curious.

I would assume if any of the above is true that they will add an 'opt out' option as the fellow above me stated. Nobody likes to play at a disadvantage.

  • 2

@gjustinj I can't imagine that Rare is NOT gonna implement an option to opt out of cross play.

There's literally no argument for not doing so.
People on different plattforms can still play together, if they want to and others can play only with those on the same plattform.

And you tell me, if these things make a difference.
90+ fps in addition to MnK compared to a 30 fps console with an controller that isn't as responsive and accurate like a mouse is.

I could always tell, if I'm fighting a PC player or not.

Yea I agree with you- and believe me if this option ever exists i will have opt out checked.

I'm a big fan of cross play for a game like this!! And I'm very glad that this game is playable with an Xbox Controller on PC.

  • 0

@knightx13 I believe that cross play is an amazing feature in SoT. While I was playing the scale test, I joined a crew of 3 and had plenty of fun. Later on I learned that they were all on xbox while i played on PC. It definitely is an amazing experience since we had a lot to discuss about the differences.

Sorry if this question has already been answered, but if I play on PC and later switch to an Xbox One X, will I keep the same progression?

I will be using the same Xbox Live account on both systems, so it seems to make sense that my Sea of Thieves progress would be tied to my Xbox Live profile and so transfer between platforms, but is that how it works?

@xf-rose-goddess said in [Mega Thread] - Cross Play:

let the Xbox one use mouse and keyboard as well kinda. like Minecraft lets you choose between mouse and keyboard

The day this happens I will quit console gaming. There will be no more point in it.

@apocacide said in [Mega Thread] - Cross Play:

so last night there was this guy jumping around one shotting everybody, he could move faster load faster and he never missed, three guys couldn't touch him, don't bother trying to tell me what you think it coud have been, because i know; if console gamers quit this game it'll be dead in a month and we'll never touch another crossplay

That's what I was experiencing too and I'm pretty good at aiming with the gamepad. Still had no chance against one skilled PC player that took down my entire crew again and again, laughing at us and telling us to "git gud".

I'm glad that some people are happy about crossplay, but this definitely needs to be OPTIONAL or else it will become a very frustrating experience for console gamers that will get spawn killed forever.

It's seamless for all games. Your saved data is stored in the cloud. Just sign in with the same gamertag on any system and launch the game.

My one bug bear is that the pc cutlasses have aim assist which can really throw me off during combat, please at least give a disable option for those of us who don't want it :D

  • 0

@williamherschel I've played both, I definitely like it more with a controller but there is really no advantage since it's not an aim heavy game

    Every shooter is aim heavy.

    @cnt-thelrox it's not a shooter

Cross-play would be fine if you would fix whatever you did to USB Mics on the PC 2 patches ago :(

No-one can hear us unless we make a specific party in the Xbox app, which most players do not want to do - plus then it removes you from positional audio in the game. Please for the love of god fix it!

You just activated my trapcard! I'm not talking about genres here. Sea of Thieves is not a first-person-shooter per say but it damn well performs like one, if you get in close combat.

When you get boarded by a PC player, you're toast in most cases if you're on Xbox. You'll see it for yourself and you'll remember our conversation about this topic.

I think the hate on cross platform is ridiculous. its people quoting statistics. Dividing the player base is not the way to go.

slight advantage, sure? is it unfair. not really. and if any read the patch notes they are addressing this with how the cannons funtion etc. I enjoy playing with my xbox friends who cant afford a nice PC like mine. its a great way to build a community and, new friendships.

I think the issue is so many people run into this game with "CoD" mentality. its Naval warfare, Develop good tactics. Also, this isn't a serious try hard type game. Apparently some people are too young to remember this is what rare does best, tongue in cheek immersive fun.

Some of this is just bruised egos. So i will sign off with the standard DS response:

Salt isnt just for the sea!

    @apocacide

That was just one example. My point was they are actively looking at balancing.

also, if a particular enemy has the advantage in one area, re-spawn and well, change your tactic.

  • 0

@apocacide Aim assist and other movement enhances exist. It works well in GoW4 it will work well here as well. That community resisted it at first. Now there is ranked cross platform playlists the consensus is good. otherwise this is just a rabbit whole of "problems", Lets also punish people with better connections! "his ping is lower than mine and it hurts mah hit detection!"

personally i am ok with them giving the Xbox players any assist advantage they think they need, if it ends this c**p.

All of this is based on a stress test. This wasn't even the focus and they stated changes will be made before go-live..

    @ant-heuser-kush you’re the man!
I thing same way. This works for any game. The diferences on game play, joysticks or mouse have to be overcome by the players. Comunity is more important. In the end, lets hang out together and have a reach enviroment dispyte of alone one!!!!

  • 1

@tougetuned Nah, I don't accept your "git gud" response here. This has nothing to do with "gitting gud" but everything with being handicapped, fighting on unequal grounds etc.

Oh and nobody trashes cross play here. It does and should exist but also with the option to opt out of it so that Xbox players have the OPTION (its optional) to play within their plattform.
Nobody is losing here with that option.

Tell me, what are you losing if Xbox players and PC players have the option to choose between two options?

Edit: And please don't advocate for Aim Assist and other handholding mechanics. I (and many others) hate Aim Assist because it removes the skill in aiming. It snaps on its target and there you go. Boring as hell.

Option to opt out of cross play is the right way to go. Nobody gets hurt.

too bad you guys on xbox don't have gfx like me ;)
too bad you guys don't have gfx like me

would've been nice tho to seen this kinda graphics on both platforms.

a large number of xbox players will be jumping ship for RDR2 in oct, so it won't really be a problem for us

I don't want to play on my PC, Prefer playing on my Xbox, I'm all game for playing With/Against PC, We're all playing the same game, And I'm not going to be going for RDR2, Not really that interested. :P

Personally, (My opinion, Don't care if you dislike it), I think that giving the option to not take part in cosplay restricts how vast the game can be and reduces its potential. I love the idea of crossplay.

For those saying "Mouse and Keyboard can react faster", You're wrong, I suck terribly in PvP on mouse and keyboard, And I was a PC gamer. I react faster and play better with a controller.
For those saying "But the graphics are better on PC"... Yes, IF you spend the money on graphics, And I'll be honest, on Xbox One, The imagery is already pretty darn amazing... I'd go as far as calling this game beautiful, So I don't care about better graphics, I think it looks amazing basic.
"But what about haxors" You kinda get them all over, And as a AAA title I am almost certain Rare will do all they can to prevent this...

I dont see a single reason why it shouldn't be as vast as possible and loses potential if you put a option in the Game to disable crossplay.
Since that game have just 5 Ship Crews (max. 20 players) per server, i dont worry about the game could lose potential because of the lack of players. And i guarantee you, that there will enough players on both plattforms to fill thousands of servers with people.

For those saying "Mouse and Keyboard can react faster", You're wrong, I suck terribly in PvP on mouse and keyboard, And I was a PC gamer. I react faster and play better with a controller.

As you said earlier, YOU may not be that good with your mouse and keyboard, but that does not mean it's the same with other players playing on the PC. Just look on Youtube how players in First-Person Games perform on Consoles vs. PC in terms of Controlls (Aim and Movement), im sure you will notice the difference, and please dont look channels like LevelCap which talks bull***t 24/7.

"But what about haxors" You kinda get them all over, And as a AAA title I am almost certain Rare will do all they can to prevent this...

Have to disagree here, just because it's a AAA title it does not mean it's safe from hackers. Look at Battlefield, CoD, GTA Online etc. all of them are AAA Titles but have a large number of Cheater/Hackers, 98% from them on PC. I hope that Rare will have an good anti cheat system but that dosent mean you are 100% save from such people.

I have the feeling that some People here miss understand the main theme of what some console players complaining about, it's not that we want Rare to remove Crossplay, it's that we want an Option to disable Crossplay, for those of us who dont want to get handicapt by the difference of Controllers and MnK.

  • 0

@its-s****. I was a PC gamer too and I mopped floors with mouse and keyboard against other PC players.

I paid attention to the aiming differences when I switched to consoles. Its night and day!

I've put my arguments forth before and so far I haven't seen a valid reason for not having an 'opt out' option.
    Nobody would get hurt.
