[Mega Thread] - Cross Play (Part 1)

  • 0

I think cross play is needed to keep the game allways full of players.
Beacues without players there is no Fun!

  • 3

Crossplay needs an option to disable for Xbox players. I will not be buying this masterpiece of a game if
there is no option to disable crossplay.

  • 2

I'm can't hold my laugh at this topic anymore..

It's like: "turn it on!", "no, turn it off!" ......
If they didn't tell you it was crossplay, you would have noticed at all and wouldn't be in here complaining about you wantin the game all for yourself. the devs wanted to make a crossplay pirate game so let them. If you don't wanna buy it then don't buy it. I don't wanna act like an A*s but just go on with your life and look for a game which is exclusive to your platform.

edit: I mean if you have feedback, please post it! But if you're only here to complain I suggest you take your negativity elsewhere. We are a pirate family and have nothing but love for fellow pirates. YES we do kill eachother ingame but that's the piratelife!

Crossplay is far from finished. I don't care if console users don't want to play with PC people.Give them the option not to play with PC users.

My problem was the whole communication issue. I found ingame a push to talk button. Worked perfectly fine.

I found 2 kind of xbox players. Those tho had their mic really close you could hear them breathing and chewing and literally everything going on in their house.
The other kind was those who talked very quiet, because they had their mic faraway because they know we dont want hear them breathing and if there was anything noisy going on, you couldn't understand a word they said.

Okay, after a while i found a few people i liked to play with. They we're in the same situation as i was. Pretty much alone and made some friends ingame. So, we added each other in the xbox app and there i could not find a push to talk. So after a while one mate complained i would swoosh the whole time and i couldnt turn it off. Another mate said he is used to it from earlier experience. In my opinion the whole xbox app is trash anyway. I don't really want to use it, tho i have to im afraid. The top of it is you cant even copy and paste links from there.

A decent talking app is nonexistent between PC users and xbox users, Teamspeak and Discord are unaviable for xbox. Xbox app is garbage. So, i think the trend is going to PC crews and xbox crews only. Because when you cant communite decently, you cant play this much team based game, especially in PvP situations.

    100%

I've seen the PC Elitist/Xbox Elitist c**p slowly making it's way into the forums and it needs to stop. Cross-play is so unique that everyone should be thankful for the opportunity to help shape and promote it. If that's a hard concept to grasp, then I'm at a loss.

  • 0

@mickail-arkow I agree that there needs to be a bridge for voice comms between seperate platforms, but there are also non-verbal commands in-game. In my 55 hours of playtesting, I only met one other person who used non-verbal. It's really helpful in situations like those.

  • 2

Crossplay is a good feature, but in a PvP setting, no matter how small the difference is, its an Un fair playing field. Needs to have an option to disable crossplay for xbox. I will not be buying this game if i cant disable crossplay

  • 3

@kpt-spears Can you elaborate on what it is specifically that you felt was unfair? I played the Closed Beta on Xbox One and PC and never once felt that either side had an advantage.

  • 2

@Kpt-Spears got some constructive feedback for the devs then? like @ShadowStrider-7 said, please eleborate so the devs actually have some solid feedback.

    @ShadowStrider-7 yes!

@Mickail-Arkow yes I've read your piece and I agree about the xbox-app on PC not being what it should've been. Adressed both Rare and Microsoft about this issue and how it may (probably will!) affect their playerbase to a negative degree.. I've elaborated in very detailed manners to both, so I hope I've provided them with something to work with. (for example an ingame overlay just like steam/origin/uplay and such..)

We'll notice soon enough. Hope they got some time to implement some features to gain high quality of communication methods on their platform, not the stuff that's going on now ;)

@ShadowStrider-7: sry i tend to forget about those things.. edited immediatly ;)
letting the other one from earlier stand though, it relates to me being a donkey

  • 1

@vitix88 Very well said. The overlay is a much needed feature and I couldn't agree more about having it added.

Friendly advice: This being a family-friendly forum, it's only a matter of time before your post ends up Mod-Edited due to language. Maybe you can correct it before that happens?

i've seen a guy fire a single cannon faster than i could fire 4 that were preloaded, i've seen a guy jump on our ship and strafe spin with his sword faster than we could turn to face him, there is no doubt these were pc players, will that be a game breaker? it might, very balanced combat system, ruined by controller disadvantage

they might be. I mean I've encoutered some 360 no scope kills from short distance.. when I asked what their latency on their mouse was, they were like: whattheheck? you on pc?

Yes i play on PC, and I have used both keyboard+mouse and a controller (ps4 because the SoT X1 is still on it's way ^^)
adjustment to turning speeds and such on the controllers probably will be available ingame, just like any game which has mouse/controller settings.

and yes you can fire cannons rapidly,, but to me, it's mostly related to how much coffee I've drank and how hyped (competitive) I am to enemies who shoot at me..
considering reloading only takes 1 sec, you can shoot a cannonball every second..

  • 0

@apocacide alright, maybe I haven't encountered it in the same way you did. Maybe the reactionspeed of the controller just isn't fast enough to keep pace with the keyboard+mouse combo. I really don't know the details about that. All I can say is that the devs try really hard to keep the game as balanced as it can be, keeping the unique features and such of the 2 different systems in minds. Don't think it'll be a big thing tho. Now you mention it I've encountered some ppl who shoot way faster than others, but that single time it was due to latency (lags) and I wasn't able to shoot as fast as he did..
maybe his crewmate stood right besides him and reloaded his cannon so the firer doesn't have to press the reload button? I really don't know ;)

  • 0

@apocacide yeah i know what you mean, but still I hope they won't. That's why I don't mind the high price.. ppl keep on griefing? let's ban them for a few days from a game which costed 60 or 70€, they'll stop for sure.. and if they don't, just ban 'm. PC users can install fraps or any similar program which records your screen. So when you see a griefer you've got some more back-up for your report ;)

  • 0

@apocacide I can relate to that.
maybe banning is a bit harsh tho, but I've seen ppl go down for less than that.

other option is: bounty on the griefer/bully's head (like 1 or 2k gold), with a BIG GIANT MARKER on the map of all players, so they can all chase 'm down together
---- this bounty can ONLY be collected by ppl killed by said target in the last 15 mins or so ----

  • 1

@apocacide If the guy rapid-firing was on a Sloop, that's because the Sloop (I think) fires faster than the Galleon does, to help combat the offset of being a smaller ship with less firepower.

oh lol yes ofcourse.. I was thinking about galleon to galleon

  • 0

@apocacide I agree. Ships are balanced, which is why I don't understand half of the threads saying otherwise.

  • 2

Unless you have terrible input latency on your controller, there is going to be zero difference between reloading on a mouse/keyboard and a controller because they require the same inputs - hold button to reload, press button to fire.

The only difference could maybe be between ship and galleon reload speeds.

  • 0

@d3adst1ck ye on second thought I think it's the difference between ships

Crossplay is good. We dont play pubg here or whatever. The aim should be fine its not that bad and u can use mouse and keyboard on the xbox too. Alot people pc players have xbox friends who doesnt own a pc it gives them the possible to play together. I would understand that crossplay would be bad on pubg fortnite or another skilled games where it matters. But not in SoT that is why crossplay is good

  • 2

"Anytime you have a popular networked multiplayer video game for pc it is just a matter of time before you get players that don't play fair. I don't mean spawn camping and or teams ganging up on the solo players. I mean the guy that sits on top of the crows nest in the middle of a storm and can somehow mange to head shot you with his musket every time. I know I'm going to get some replies from pc gamers that these types of players don't really exist. Fine, just give me the option to turn off Cross Play then they won't exist for me as well."

I am all for cross platform play but this is a valid comment!

  • 0

Cross play for a game like this is perfect, its something that has the power to bring large communities and friends together. Its advantages far trump the disadvantages of potential unfairness.

Take the negativity elsewhere? The purpose of this thread is to share your view on cross-play. What's the point of everyone just praise it? Telling others "don't buy the game if you don't like it" is not a great way to solve problems.

For the record, I can tell who's playing on PC as soon as we engage in a fight. You don't see xbox players constantly jump around and aim perfectly at the same time (you really can't really aim and jump in the same time on the standard Xbox controller in SoT due to button layout).

I don't really understand why anyone would want devs to turn off crossplay or force it on us. The best solution is to make it optional, just like other games do it. That's it. Everyone's happy then...maybe except some PC players that hope to get more easy targets.

  • 1

    @captain-surgee
by taking the negativity elsewhere I mean this is a thread made for feedback, not to empty your emotions into. I hope you understand that I very much like to se constructive feedback, but atleast half of posts I see are just people complaining or praising the game.. well, ye it's fine to have such an experience for yourself, but when it comes to constructive feedback let just keep this thread tidy. I'm not against showing emotions, on the contrary I support it big time, but it shouldn't lead to a disorganised and/or chaotic thread.

My suggestion is to keep vial feedback in here. If you have nothing to add with might help the devs in any way, then make a new thread on your emotions on another part of the forums.

When I say: if you don't wanna buy it then don't buy it relates to dozens of posts only saying: if they add "this" I won't buy it... well what kind of constructive feedback is that? why not start with: hello, the reason I'm not buying yet is due to: "stated reasons" ... thats constructive feedback.

I blame myself for not being clear enough so I've added what I meant below:

    definition of: -constructive-

-helping to improve; promoting further development or advancement (opposed to destructive )

Hi! I intent to play the game on my PC while my brother has an Xbox One console but we're using the same microsoft account. I wonder whether it'll be possible to play together simultaneously on both devices? I've read that an xbox copy would automatically be downloadable for windows 10 owners.

    @zakarus
I have suggested that to change weapons use a roulette UI like all other objects.
When you press (Y) the weapons will unfold with a quick move of the weapon change lever.

The same with the PC, when you press the mouse wheel you will deploy the same UI and when you move the mouse towards the weapon you will change weapons.

And if you want to quickly change to the next weapon in its respective order, press twice (Y) or rotate the mouse wheel in case of the PC.

I suggest you edit and propose the same at the end, and also report it as an error :)

I think cross play is a great part of SoT, it increases the player pool so the servers will be fuller and more action will occur

  • 0

Do you know, is Beta test over?

  • 0

@sahekg Welcome to the forums! It appears you've posted in the wrong place, but to answer your question; Yes, the Closed Beta period is now over. Prepare to set sail March 20th!

  • 1

I enjoy the crossplay element this game offers, just means more people to meet.

  • 0

I understand the concerns, but in general I am fine with Cross-Play. I play on PC, but am going to actually try and play with a controller as I personally think that this game might feel more natural with it. I played with mouse and keyboard during the Alpha and Beta and it did not feel like it was such a great benefit. But we were running across a few mouse bugs as well, so that did not help.
As long as Rare keeps an eye on their stats to see if any trending starts revealing issues in balance, I think cross-play would still be best for all.

  • 0

    This post is deleted!
  • 3

If it were a competitive fps game it would be a big issue, however SoT has a very casual play-style and the shooting is very simplistic so i dont see any issue of crossplay in SoT. I think it's a good thing for this type of game.

I sell my Xbox X live on Mixer for 1 unit of the cheapest crypto coin available at that day, tiltle "buy the number one Crosscheat device for only 1 insert cheapest crypto coin name !"
if it does not become a STANDARD that you can turn off Crossplay aka "Crosscheat" in general on all games.
