Still unplayable on AMD...

  • I have been first invited into alpha at the beginning of November and ever since that moment each version is worse and worse regarding freezes and crashes. My old thread is deleted but there were BUNCH of people having the same issue. I wrote about 2 or 3 support ticket so it's not like I'm only crying. I did all I could have done as a customer. It essentially started as an annoying freeze once every hour but since last big alpha, it has been almost entirely unplayable. Beta is just joke. It literally never runs longer than 1 minute before the crash. Everything is freshly installed. I do a fresh reinstall with every version. I know this is a beta. I know that the version before was alpha... But you seriously can't expect that people with AMD are going to pay for something borderline unplayable. Just imagine what it's like to look forward to one and every playtest we have and every time gets burned and disappointed. At least tell us if it's going to get solved or how is it going if it's problem on AMD side or at yours. I love you guys and I love SoT but this is getting ridiculous it's been 3 months and my will to purchase this game dropped from 100% to like 15%. I truly am sorry for this rant I know I sound like a d**k but I'm just sad...

  • What is playable on AMD AMIRIGHT

    I kid I kid

  • @tutorialchimp

Try setting your drivers back to about 3 months ago. I hear that works. I will be trying it myself today as I have been having the same problems.

  • I wasn't able to play either. Couldn't get it running once. Luckily my laptop was intel and despite being less powerful it was able to run it great.

  • I run on 17.10.2 and I haven't had a crash yet.

    I am on RX 480 4GB OC

  • I have this issue as well. The game will just freeze randomly without any consistency and without warninf. Sometimes it will be a few hours, sometimes within 10mins.

I am running the game on Max settings 2k with plenty of frames so I won't listen to the NVidea m*********e BS. I also have the latest drivers.

This doesn't happen with any other game I play and most be fixed before release!!

  • @siriondb @Aviindr The issue is with amd cpu's not graphics cards

  • i got an 390x from sapphire and its running smooth as it could be tho. so probably thats a processor problem tho.

  • @haukerabauke it is a processor problem not a gpu

  • I'm playing on AMD. I have an Gigabyte R9 390X 8 GB card on the latest drivers and it played just fine, hell; I'm running an i7 2700k and getting damn near 100 fps.

  • @scheefinator

I love how we all ignored that he was talking about CPU and not GPU, HAHA...

  • @duvelsuper2 i said its probably a processor problem so yeah youre right xD

  • I have both an AMD CPU and GPU, and haven't had nor currently have any crashes or freezes related to my hardware.
It sounds like a BIOS or driver problem on your end. Or you have a program that isn't playing nice with the game. Try updating everything and disabling third party software.

  • For the love of Davey Jones can you people post your specs if you actually want these sort of issues fixed. Anyways, FX6300 + RX470 4GB had no problems for me during 96 hours of playing the game. P.S. I will more than certainly throw my wallet at Rares face even though I'm an AMD abuser :')

  • Running all AMD here, and can only say that the game froze and crashed to desktop 2-3 times the whole closed beta test. What is your set up?

  • The crash is a issue caused by the AMD drivers.

    The Rare/SoT support team said:
"This is caused by the AMD driver Adrenalin, version 17.12.1. AMD are working on a fix for this. In the meantime you may go to a previous driver version and your problem should go away."

    (AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core Processor / RX 480 8GB)

I was in version 18.1.1 and the game was still crashing.
Now I am on 17.11.2 and I have not had any CTD or freeze.

According to the tests I was doing during the beta, in my case, the issue varies depending on the version of the drivers so it does not seem to be the fault of the CPU.

  • @rdizz Tetris?

  • @el-espectro-0 Ah thanks for the snippet, was curious what the problem even was here. Apparently I've been on 17.12.1, and didn't have a problem personally. Hopefully the issue will be resolved by release, but props to posting the version you're using to avoid said issues!

  • @sour-patch-mcoy It seems that the stable version varies for some users, @SirioNDB for example, a different version works for him.

I mentioned some of the tests in this thread:
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/27284/game-crashing-when-approaching-islands-or-after-about-an-hour-of-play/12

  • So, interesting enough... after closed beta, and the final retail version and running the latest drivers, my fps has went down to close to 35-45 fps in-game compared to my last comment in this thread.

I even purchased a new computer (i7 8700k) with the same video card and getting worse performance now.

I submitted a ticket to the devs and hopefully there is a resolution soon!
