@ethnine I definitely think they should have better weapons that cause more damage, hold more ammo, fire faster...against pve enemies. I can understand not having an unbeatable, pirate, pillage squad
So uh $70 bucks for a game with no content besides roleplaying?

@coracbra You seem to have a lack of understanding when it comes to what exactly a beta is. This is not the game, nor is it a demo. It’s a technical test meant to double as a small teaser.
While I do agree with you that a Beta is for testing, why did they remove the NDA they're obviously trying to spread hype and advertise their game. But by leaving out the good stuff it's not helping anyone, especially the SOT team. (If infact there is any good stuff to come when its released) Lirik had over 100 thousand people watching him play it, and they all heard him say "This game is boring and has no content after a few hours" Imagine if they put in the fun content and he was loving it and instead his viewers saw him having a great time, they would get a lot more sales and build way more hype. People would be telling their friends "hey dude check out this awesome game with all these features" I don't see any valid argument for saying its just a beta and who cares if its boring its just for a test. If they just wanted to test server stability they should of kept it under NDA.
Having the fun stuff in the game doesn't make it any harder to test server stability either, in fact its probably better for testing because more people would continue playing and being logged in for testing instead of logging of after a few hours from being bored. Hard to get a good test when people don't even want to keep playing.
Your response has no valid points to put into this discussion, use your brain a bit before posting rubbish.
Just wanted to point out something someone previously said that I had forgotten beforehand. NDAs can only legally be signed by people aged 18+. If they had kept the NDA anyone that preordered to play the beta under 18 wouldn't be able to play. To allow for a more realistic stress test of a larger player base than they ever could during an alpha under NDA they had to lift the NDA. Keeping it under NDA would also have prevented a lot of the people who paid for the preorder from actually playing the game because I'm sure many of them are under 18s who probably now make up a significant chunk of the player base. They had to remove the NDA to test server stability in a more real-world setting.
However, yes I do agree that they should have kept the stuff from the last alpha test that they've already shown in a trailer, and yes I think they are secondarily using it as a teaser and as such there was
no real reason to take that stuff outbut as I type that the more and more I'm thinking that they clearly only put it in the last alpha test to test those things were working but didn't want to fully reveal them to everyone yet and would have kept them in if they could have kept the NDA but to allow everyone that preordered to play they had to take it off.So yes @Darth-Crouton 's response does have valid points and there is no need to insult him or be rude about it just because he has a different opinion than you. Remember, opinion is not fact, you have your opinion on what this beta is and should have been, they have theirs, I have mine and we're all entitled to that, none are rubbish or use a lack of brain power.
But you did point something out that I think is really what the crux of this argument, which is "do you have fun playing the base game loop?" and I think for all the people that are complaining about a lack of content in a closed beta that's primary function is to stress test and gauge player engagement with the core game loop and barebones functionality (because yes right now this feels more like a base foundation of the game rather than the full thing but I have faith that we will get that with the full release), but I'm guessing the answer for them is no. But with a lot of them insulting those that defend the game they clearly don't realise that there are also a lot of us that the answer is yes, you know, people find different things fun and that's okay I personally only play for a few hours at a time but that's because that's how long I have per gaming session anyway, I don't have time to play more, but if I did I could easily sit here for hours on end playing it almost non-stop. Yes I do hope that this is not it's finished state and that they're gonna blow us away with the content they've been hiding at launch, and yes a part of me feels like not all of that content necessarily needed to be kept hidden but if that's how they want to do it then fair enough.
And to respond to @StephenFarren I swear I recall feedback threads about the things that were in the trailer, but I must be mistaken then. However, I do agree that it does feel like they've been pushed by Microsoft to launch early, probably due to the cost of development and the cost of running the servers, which is probably why the price is so high. But I do agree that the cost is a little steep for what it is at the moment, I'm not American so I'm not sure how the prices you put in dollars translates to pounds but yeah I don't really think it should be priced at the £49.99 that it is at the moment. Kinda made me recoil when I saw it, especially because they're selling the art books and the lore book separately, for that price I would have more expected it bundled in. So essentially I somewhat agree with the title of this thread, I love the game, hate the business practices.
@coracbra I disagree only to the extent that the ship feature in this game is the deepest and most fun ship experience I've had in any game. In BDO the ship mechanic is just a normal vehicle on water. It's not an interesting experience to pilot by itself. It's a vehicle to content and not very meaningful content in itself. I just think the depth of the existing content is great (except combat) but the issue is the variety and breadth of things to do is lacking.
As far as BDO is concerned, it's a tasklist simulator where everything is locked behind a mindless grindwall. If that's what you want, go play a traditional MMO. If BDO gave you everything upfront you'd see how empty it was but heavy grindwalls create the simulation of more content when in reality you are forced to redo the same exact content over and over for DAYS on end to move on to a new set of things to grind. BDO isn't what I want Sea of Thieves to be and get that money hungry trash out of here.
Also, BDO was released at a higher price than you paid for it and had WAY less content than it does now. Games are designed to come out and be fun, and they keep adding fun over time. You can't compare a long term MMO that's been around for awhile to a game that hasn't even come out of beta. Sea of Thieves will likely add content over time, hopefully that includes new gameplay systems. Remember, "The golden age of piracy hasn't even begun"...it's a pretty good way of saying they are planning much more for the game.
I don't think it's fair to use BDO as an example because despite what the circlejerkers who have never played it say, it is by far the best value for your money that I have ever seen. It's not fair to expect every game to be able to match that level of playability, even for $60, especially considering it's an MMORPG.
