A sad fact about the inevitable IGN review

  • It's sad, but no matter how great the game is there is no way it will get a good rating from IGN. I can already see the review, "7.8 out of 10, too much water."

  • "This game has so much potential, but it fell short. Why? There's simply too much water"

  • l**o . gold

  • "The amount of water and its beauty was astonishing, I loved the high waves and rain at first. But then I realized these beautiful terrors slowly flooded my ship and pushed me off-course. And that's not even getting started on having to swim to islands encountering these horrible sharks. This constant forced interaction with water makes this game unplayable."

  • @erinom3 Wow, who wrote this ?! This is dumb, no ? xD

  • @khan-azukr
Hahaha, yes. Just me imagining what others might write

  • @Erinom3 Ow yes you should be able to find this kind of review !
Poor creature who play the game... you loose litteraly nothing when you die (except chests if carring it) but it's not enough for people who wrote this kind of review. What about old vintage games where one death leaded to start the game over the begining ?

  • "Sea of thieves Review: A beautiful pirate SIM soaked with charm

My first 15 hours with the game included a Kraken fight, being locked in the brig, a voyage the was sidetracked with multiple treasures and fights. But amidst all of this, SoT definitely has it's down time. Swimming in water is simply too much to ask for of its players. And not being able to aim the cannon while I'm in it sucks.

Verdict: though sea of thieves is the most fun I've had in ages with the least amount of problems during launch, as well as helping me create new and lasting friendships, and let me carve my own pirate legend, SoT just feels too much like an extended Water Temple.

    7.6/10
    Great"

  • Every game has a critic, and honestly I don't take game reviews seriously. As long as the game sells, people are happy with the gameplay in it and it thrives long term, then it's a success and a 5 out of 5 stars for me.

  • It seems most critics are out to make a name for themselves and will say anything controversial to get a "story", the publicity and clickbait. So I prefer to use my own judgement nowadays, even certain YouTubers are hard to trust nowadays too.

  • I personally think the only thing that will hurt this game with reviewers is progression. If the only things you can work for are cosmetic then i can see it being abit of an issue.

Especially if you are like me and love the pre order outfit, i will be rocking that so if what i said above is the case i would be abit worried. But Rares proven me wrong multiple times so i have faith that they will do it again. :)

  • I am looking forward to playing a game that is not driven by getting to the highest level to play end game content :)

  • The only issue I have with the water is the difficulty in killing sharks. A harpoon for a two shot kill would be nice! I usually kill sharks by getting in a position on a rock or barrier where they cannot attack me.

  • @augunslingin damn!! A harpoon is an awesome idea as a special shark killer to designate a team member for observing the sea. I hope someone at Rare sees that idea!

  • @knifelife Personally, if they totally fleshed out the cosmetic progression and added a ton more options other than oh, I went up 5 levels, I can buy this one thing (Which I think they will fix) I would enjoy getting new cosmetic items and sometimes I bet I'd end up liking something I didn't think I would like earlier on. Even if you think you're sold on the black dog gear, I can promise you at some point you're going to find say a sword, or a hook, or even maybe a pair of pants, that will look so cool and speak to you so much that you'll swap out one of your black dog pieces for it. The thing is, Rare has a lot of creativity, so what you may think now is the coolest looking thing ever, could totally be beat by something else for you. You really cant predict it, the clothes they showed in the alpha barely come close to all the pieces I've seen in the trailers, and I bet they didn't even show any of what could be considered the "legendary" pieces, if they exist (which I hope for). As a creative person, having a world of earn-able ways to customize my appearance to my liking without worrying about stats is heaven for me, and I think if you open yourself to change, and accept that what you want now might not be the only thing you want in the future, you might be able to find joy in making your pirate look as b****s as possible.

  • I think watching some gameplay from people who just play the game without reviewing it will always be the best way to tell what its like. That, and making up your own mind about the game by reading about its features and deciding if the game is something youre interested in.

We're bombarded with reviews when we look for stuff online, which automatically makes people jump to conclusions without seeing for themselves and making up their own mind about what it is like.

  • @musicmee Yup, always used my own judgement, never really went to read any reviews. I think that's always the best thing to do in the long run. In the end, it's you who must decide whether you like the game or not, independently of what others say.

  • @knifelife Like Destiny 2 is learning end game content is extremely important for Continued play after you hit max level or reputation.

As long as Rare give the community things to drive for an adventure and challenge to take on we will continue to play. Even if it is collecting legendary or hard to find skins and cosmetics for you or your ship.

I hope it will implement more but that may happen in time. I just want items or cosmetics to collect adventures to have and goals to strive for

  • @timeoftheyear who cares about ign?

  • @ndroidz Haha, it's a reference to this.

  • @zombie-p1ague What I want to see, (and this might be the case based on something we saw in the trailer) Is skeleton forts so challenging that they basically require multiple crews to complete, that would result in unique rewards. In the video we saw 4 ships sailing towards the same skeleton fort, however this could mean a number of things. It could mean that there's basically going to be raid content like you'd see in destiny or wow, or it could mean that the forts spawn loot as an event broadcasted across the sea, thus bringing different crews to compete for it, creating an intense combined pve-pvp experience where everyone who shows up has to face both hordes of skeletons and other crews at the same time, or it could be something else entirely. As I was writing this i remembered the trailer where the giant skull cloud appeared above the skeleton fort. This could actually be the broadcast I was talking about. Maybe on the rare occasion that one of these forts spawns some sort of rare loot, a skeleton cloud appears above the island so anyone across the sea can see it, and they'll all know where to head to try to compete for the reward?

That honestly makes me even more excited to play the game now!

  • @zombie-p1ague yes?

  • @zombie-p1ague oh lol your message didnt show up, it just had @niilrokk without any text or anything, so I thought you were trying to grab my attention in some wierd way or something. But yeah I know right, I think I cracked the code.

  • @niilrokk that’s odd, still I am excited to get to finely play SOT since I missed the Alpha.
I like where the game seems to going in play style. I am honestly hoping for the developers to put those “RAID” level events or quests. Things that are just so hard you have no chance to solo so you have to team up.

Having raid level quests with rare drops is what made wow so addictive and gave it such a replay ability. It’s trying to collect all those hard to find loot and getting those bragging rights

I can only hope that rare does this with SOT and gives us amazing s**t to collect and search for.

  • @timeoftheyear IGN=Rotten Tomatoes

  • @timeoftheyear I always think that having to review a game for work is gonna be way less fun than playing it when you feel like it anyway.
