Never fear. Already did. Twice now in the past 10 days with the 2 seperate events. Am really hoping the mimic dart doesn't copy a player's nameplate, as what's happened to me twice now, I could've gotten an innocent player banned already. Here's to hoping though!

I sent it to you privately, as it contains other player's names that might not want to be called out here. How am I supposed to show a nameplate glitch while editing their name? Just trying to protect their identity as this player did nothing wrong, and doesn't deserve to be called out. Check your chat.

@europa4033 this is a bug, that used to be a bit more common but apparently can still rear its head.

I have had two of my crewmates have my name (so i saw my name above their heads) and i have head crewmates have a red skelly captain name. And some more of that on several occasions.

It was a while ago that i have seen it happen

This sounds very similar to a bug Foxdie had on stream recently (last weekend, I think). He was on a galleon with friends and their names all switched around at one point. He discovered that tabbing out and back would "fix" it and break it again.

They were diving, so it could be yet another bug that appears after diving?

@europa4033 I know when that drama was going on with some streamers a few weeks ago there were claims of people “spoofing” their gamertag to try and get the streamer reported. But I don’t know if it was using some in game tech or literally just making alt accounts with the same name but using hidden characters or something to make it look like their name. But it was done intentional and with malice.

That’s the only other time I’ve heard of people having the same in game name other than your and my experiences. Which might be a good thing if it’s that rare maybe it isn’t going to be an issue.

I had this happen on April 12, 2024 during the PS5 open beta. I shot off to an island to check for something and my crew pulled in a minute later. No one had any black screens but when I boarded our ship my crew mates both had the same gamertag above their head. They looked like themselves. I have a screenshot of it.

I have experienced multiple times over the years my crewmates randomly having a red name of a captain above their head for a brief moment. I don’t think it ever lasted more than a few seconds. I have a picture from 2022 that a crewmate sent me of my gamertag replacing the Duchess’ name at a skeleton fort, it lasted from the time she emerged from one of her tunneling sessions until she died.

I never submitted any bug reports about any of these as I took them as graphical glitches. Same kind of glitch as when someone logs in or returns from the ferry and is a ghostly skeleton. Not sure if there is a point of me doing it this long since it happened, but something to keep an eye out for.

I've seen glimpses of a red name from time to time, either a boss or something sometimes flashes across my screen, but I've never had my nameplate changed to where I had a white name of another player we had recently met and defeated. I've also never had another crewmember somehow copy my nameplate.
