re-releasing all of the outfits as full cosmetic "sets" would be a lot of work, but my idea is simple and works with outfits as-is!

the basic idea im suggesting is: a "hide" or "Outfit Flair" menu/tab added to the clothing chest,
allowing pirates to toggle off each "region" of their selected equipped outfit
(shirt/jacket, pants, gloves, hat, boots, pegleg, hook, eyepatch and curse/skin)

the effect would be that other equipped items could "show through" an outfit cosmetic that currently overrides each "region slot"

inspired by "hide helmet" features in other games

my original inspiration for this idea is:
i love the shrouded ghost outfits "curse"; the sharky marking, red-eyes japanese ghost with arm fins...
but would love to be able to wear my own choice of clothing with it.

id love it if the curse was added standalone,
but i considered that other players might also like aspects of other outfits, and so this concept was born!

i also think that this added functionality would make outfits offered in the emporium more desirable!

id love to hear your thoughts about my idea,
also feel free to comment if you like something about a certain outfit, that you'd like to rock with the rest of your preferred cosmetics :)

If you "Hide" a section of the model, you will see the edges of the polygons, and empty space within, and depending on how the system is handling "Normals" you will either see completely through the object, or the inside of the model itself.

The Clothing in Sea of Thieves is designed to layer on top of each other, so the gloves, basically have mesh that goes through the pirates Arm Model where if it were real life would be the hole you slip your hand through, and the Jackets, shirts, etc have faces intersecting the pirate arm mesh.

The Costumes aren't designed this way, the mesh ends where you see the base Pirate Model... or in some cases (like the Spinal or Warsmith costumes) its just its own entire mesh.

So the only way they could do what you are asking, is to break apart the costumes into individual items that each are self contained meshes.

NOTE: I am not against this, but it is WAY more work than you are insisting it would be.

The costume is a singular mesh, yes it overrides parts of the model, but it is an entire mesh apart from the features it pulls from your characters model. For parts of it to be blocked, those parts will need to be separated from costume and made into their own mesh, which would just make them a regular clothing piece.

I understand what you are saying... but the only way to truly implement it would be to make every single item an individual clothing piece.

Each clothing piece is modeled as that, an individual clothing piece. So the Jacket will have cuffs, the pants have a hem at the bottom, etc.

For costumes, they don't have that. The jacket doesn't have a cuff, it ends with gloves, the pants go right into the boot.

And that doesn't even go into the details that happen when a costume replaces sections of the pirates geometry.

So for a costume to have seconds that are "Disabled" it would be exactly the same amount of work (Though actually even more work programming wise) than it would be to split up the outfit into individual pieces.
