But one at Ancient Spire, from the Tavern to the Shipwright just feels kinda <s>stupid</s> redundant. Just Sword lunge...

To OP's point though, it would be nice if captaincy had the extra option of choosing where to spawn - on the ship, in the tavern, or somewhere on the island (like APL TT spawn).

It's an optional way to traverse the island quicker if you want to check/vote the emi table, grab supplies, etc.

I like all the ladders, pulleys/platforms they've added and I think the zip lines will also help more than hurt.

Not sure how to implement this so that it doesn't add an extra "click" in the menu, as that seems to bother folks. Maybe in the menu screen that shows once you selected a ship and are ready to sail, there's an additional option on the side for "spawn location."

I wouldn't call it a perk. Starting from the tavern, you can get some supplies when you make your way to your vessel. You might be interested if there are any Athena Emissaries and maybe ... maybe, Larinna has a favour to ask ...

Well, people often want to raise an emissary flag or check out the shops, and spawning on the outpost is slightly more convenient for that.
Also, waking up in the tavern is thematic and somewhat explains what your pirate has been doing while you were gone.
But overall, it’s really such an insignificant amount of time spent between waking up and boarding your ship that I don’t think it’s a big deal.
