I have seen a couple of pictures on content creators with distinction 2 and distinction 5 in Merchant already.

How is this possible?

@loch1907 2 to 3 hour sessions

Just did a quick solo session, my logbook says 3 days (72 minutes) sailed and I made 624'849 gold in merchants.
203 to 230.

I'm taking Merchant pretty casual but I'm still getting around 50 levels a session.

@phantaxus I've been finding starting with a Lost Shipment voyage to get to grade 5 and then diving to Raid events the fastest way for me to level Merchants up so far...

Nothing else seems to do the trick faster for me.
