I solo sloop constantly, and i can say, hopping around to see isnt annoying if you wernt on the helm to begin with. You dont need to be on the helm constantly and get off occasionally to look around, you should be off the helm looking around, and only get on it for a moment to turn.

Both while sailing island to island, or in a battle, i hardly touch the helm other than to adjust, because unless you are in the storm, you should never need to be on the wheel 24/7 for any reason.

However, I understand why it's needed and how it's a good thing, because the unintentional advantage it offers ends up breaking the very delicate balance that the devs have been trying (and sadly, often failing) to maintain. It's a shame that Sea of Thieves has become so competitive that every little thing is seen not as fun additions, but just something to abuse and exploit (i.e. TT portals, DA sails, etc) for pvp.

That's a problem with competitive games, be it PvP or leaderboards; Some people will abuse anything that gives them even the tiniest advantage.
There was a free time-trial/obstacle course game made By Dorito's on the Xbox 360, and people cheated to get times of 00:00:00.01 seconds.

And if people will cheat to be the top on the nonsense leaderboard of a tortilla-chip-themed game; Imagine how much worse it is in a game like SoT, where you can steal people's treasure or emissary flags for actual gain.
And when the devs fix the exploits (see quick switching & these sails); the abusers try to state that they are the victims and they are owed compensation for losing their loopholes.

Kaijoi has got great guides for each meta roles on his youtube channel if your interested and want to skip the discovering phase.

Open crews will always be at a disadvantage against a crew used to sail together. Which is ultimately the point of open crews : meeting new players and creating your actual crew over time with the ones you clicked with.

Like I mentioned in another post, people here need to try harder to think outside their own experience. Sure you have a crew, who you sail with all the time, so something like ''raise sails'' is automatic, but when you have 3 randoms or players who never played with you before, might run to one spot to raise the same sail, might run to the same hole to fix it, wasting time and missing out other roles.

Last session I sank a galleon by myself, twice. You could tell they were open crew as they were doing these communications you mentioned. Their ship had Kraken sails and hull. SO obviously not fresh new pirates, but not sweats either. All I had to do was take their masts, set them on fire and put some holes, we were in the middle of fleets event.

What I am trying to say, is having an established 'meta' via official guides, would make open crews a more formidable force. Nothing over complicated, but people with thousands of hours on galleon (maybe someone like yourself?) and developers, should talk and then establish simple things as.

Helm - expected to give commands, steer the ship, defend ladders and raise the back sail
Back Cannons - expected to man the cannons, protect the ladders, manage the middle sails
Front Cannons - expected to man the cannons, manage the front sail, board.
Bilge - expected to fix the ship, defend the ladders, board if needed.

This is just my idea of what a well operated ship should do, I don't have a lot of experience on the galleon, so I could be very wrong. But you get the idea and the intention right?

I dont wish to stay in on this argument but i would like to point out that this claim does show a misunderstanding how game development works just as he said. Changing the model of the sails will have no impact on engine fixes to patch out bugs since model designers dont fix bugs, they may not even know coding, and thus would take nothing away from bug fixing time.
