Over the past week I have been reminded of why I quit Sea of Thieves years ago. It is nearly impossible to attempt much of the more PvE focused content because every time another player ship spots mine, their instinct seems to be kill on sight, even when I am not flying an emissary flag. And no Safer Seas is not going to fix this as it will still restricts players from much of the content. I'm not asking you to make the game easier, but being constantly vulnerable to more skilled PvP players is grinding on my last nerve, and those same players have no interest in welcoming in or teaching new players as they seem to take great delight at laughing at an 'easy kill'. The community is increasingly unwelcoming and it is becoming harder and harder to get my friends to play Sea of Thieves for all of the same reasons I have mentioned. As I hate to raise complaints without offering some type of solution, might I suggest allowing players who want to engage in PvE content to raise a specific flag, and sinking/killing players under that flag will yield less rewards/treasure.

High seas will forever be the game you purchased PvEvP.

It’s not going anywhere.

Removing the crews who don’t want PvP from high seas just makes the high seas that much better for people who do enjoy PvP.

That's your go to argument but you keep ignoring the fact that the majority wants both and not just PVP.
It seems really clear cut for you but you jut don't get that people advocating against full PVE servers don't want more PVP in high sea, they want to keep a healthy balance of both. And yes, moving over to a permanent safe seas would upset that balance.

Sounds like you’re scared of a sweatier high seas.

So sad.

Preaching to others about how PvP is required to enjoy SoT and then you’re also scared there may be to much PvP if they make a proper safer seas.

Ridiculous.

Is that your best argument? Why are you scared to take as much risk as everybody else in the game?

You still aren't reading properly, a balance of both PVE and PVP are best to enjoy SoT. Thats what I've been "preaching" all along.

But keep reading what you want to read.

The balance you speak of is not balanced at all.

It’s a failed experiment.

You should not mix new/casual players trying to sell their first bits of treasure to start progressing with veteran players who don’t care about loot or gold and are just out looking for PvP.

When the veteran player sinks a noob or casual they don’t understand the resentment and hate and anger they caused the noob or casual. Most of the time the veteran player isn’t even interested in the casual’s loot it was sinking for the sport of it.

This is the reality of PvEvP games.

It’s a stupid idea to mix them together.

SoT in a perfect world with a perfect community that approaches other crews with a neutral mindset rather than a kill on sight mindset maybe maybe could have worked as a PvEvP game.

But that’s just not reality.

Reality is that new players and casuals get extremely discouraged from continuing to play the game after they sink and lose loot a few times.

Most multiplayer games are all about getting right into a match and then when it’s over you get into another and another and so on.

You don’t spend an hour doing PvE, gathering treasure before all of a sudden out of nowhere here comes a PvP encounter.

Now if that PvP encounter goes bad that few minutes of a bad experience overshadows all of the positive chill fun part of doing the PvE.

It’s so stupid to try and mix the two ways to play.

Veteran skilled players on the hunt for PvP usually have no loot on their boat so even if by the grace of God they happen to lose to the noob/casual guess what? They got nothing for sinking them other than supplies.

So again absolutely no penalty for attacking other crews and sinking their ships. Hell you can even buy supplies that will help you do just that at the dock now.

I think this game is just a breeding ground for toxicity because the power lies way to much with those who have mastered the PvP. It’s just insane.

Dude, stop the victim mindset in a game. PVP happens and yes there are some very toxic crews, but what about the times I’ve helped newer players in fights and then left them with insane stacks of loot to be nice as we were server hopping. Not every encounter is the same, not every crew. Try to mix up how you receive new ships coming in and see what works.

The people saying PVE and PVP should be separate seem to have a hard time grasping how monotonous and boring the seas would be without the peril. 343 stack on FOTD, but why? It’ll get so boring so fast. Whether you like the fight or not having other ships creates a theme of danger

Do you understand what this game is about ? Can you read the title of the game?

PVPVE means Player versus Player versus Environment. You go dig up a chest and fight other pirates for it. How hard is it to understand it?

There are several tall tales where you can go raise whatever flags you want and nobody will attack you.

Go ask for Counter Strike to introduce competitive cuddling.

Sea of Thieves is a sandbox adventure game not a strictly multiplayer PvP game. There’s no reason to force PvP on everyone.

The enjoyment one can have from playing Sea of Thieves isn’t exclusive to a single play style. Believe it or not, doing PvE with other crews cooperatively can be just as fun as fighting other crews it all depends on who you ask.

Therefore maybe it’s you who is entitled because you refuse to accept that other people with a different opinion on what is fun actually exist.

Games are designed to be fun for people to play. Games are not designed to force people to do things they don’t want to do.

Look most of my shoot on site encounters are me approaching ships near me while I am doing something else. So yes sail at you head on, Fire a couple of cannons and display that I am more than willing to fight for this. Most of the time it proves the point.

You don’t owe anyone a fight in this game, but NO ONE OWES YOU A PASS EITHER.

Understand that there is toxic, being spawn camped with no damage to your ship while have slurs yelled at you is not acceptable. A crew sinking you and taking supps or loot is quite acceptable. Not everyone is cold hearted either, I won’t sink a tall taler.

Well I wouldn’t celebrate just yet. It took how many years to get safer seas? Perhaps you shouldn’t open that bottle of champagne just yet, and perhaps you could consider embracing the game for what it is… a sea of thieves.

Don't know why you are assuming a linear progression rate. With all the new and returning players picking up SoT again, Rare will see an increase in revenue, as well as an increase in forum threads, criticizing the exaggerated restrictions. They will have to act quickly to maintain their new playerbase, so it's safe to assume the progression rate will be anything but linear.

I will embrace the game for what it is in December, thank you very much.

You’re making assumptions of your own. For example, I am the new player here, and I’m certainly not here because of an expanded tutorial, and I certainly don’t want the same things in SOT as you. On that note, let’s not assume that we know what new players want :)

Also, just because you’re excited about an expanded tutorial doesn’t mean that there’s going to be an influx of players when Safer Seas is active.

Lastly, we don’t now what Rares bottom line is, we can make assumptions on what may or may not be a good business decision, but ultimately we don’t see their numbers, so we have no idea. For all we know they’re rolling in money from cosmetic sales.

My assumption is based on something that I can point to, which is the timeline of sea of thieves and the fact that an expanded tutorial is being introduced after years of pve server request. So again, I recommend holding off on the celebration for now. Perhaps in the meantime try to enjoy the game as it’s intended, as I do :)

With all due respect, my assumptions are also based on things I can point to.

The countless threads that have been started, requesting PvE servers, despite them getting constantly locked for a while, is indicative of a large portion of the player base that simply wants to PvE.

Many Youtubers have posted videos praising the introduction of PvE servers, while criticizing the exaggerated restrictions.

Comments on said Youtubers' videos are overwhelmingly in support of the introduction of PvE servers.

Rare introducing PvE servers, catering to newer players, as well as the untapped market of PvE players who just want to have a relaxing gaming session, tells us that they are finally open to the idea.

This thread.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what you and I want. Rare said they're introducing PvE servers, and that is the end of that. Doesn't matter if they're already rolling in money from cosmetic sales, as you say. They can still make more with the introduction of PvE, and that is a fact.

All anecdotal evidence aside (ie; YouTubers), no it is not a fact. If you believe it is indeed a fact then I’m sure Rare would love to have you on the team for the purpose of market analysis and subsequent predictions leading to facts.

Also, most everyone’s response that I’ve seen to Safer Seas is either passive or accepting. I don’t have anything against it as it stands - an extended tutorial with extreme limitations. But the idea that more PVE servers are coming, or whatever it is you’re hoping for, and the idea that it’s a “fact” that they’d be a good business decision on a rares part is just speculation on your part, sorry. We’ll see what happens, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

There have always been great alternatives for Coop PvE games. They're not Pirate themed sure, but they are alternatives nonetheless.

If one day Rare changes SoT to make it a theme park game where PvPvE feels out of place, I will take that same advice and play another PvPvE game I enjoy, if I can find it (the genre is pretty niche). That's not a bad thing.

If Sea of Thieves isn't a viable alternative for that audience (read: PvE players), they'll go there, taking their attention, and money, with them. In my circles, Skull and Bones is both regularly mocked (for being so late to its own party), but also regularly talked about for the shift to PvE. So say what you want about other products, services, or whatever else, but even if they're strictly inferior in whatever ways matter to a given group, if Sea of Thieves can't (or won't) compete, then those who want what it has will overlook a myriad of flaws to go play it instead.

The "if you don't like it, go play something else" crowd have long pushed that angle because there wasn't a great alternative. It's pretty clear that Rare has realised that there is soon to be one, and it may not be in their best interests to have people shift to it (at least not to the exclusion of Sea of Thieves). It'll be interesting to see what PvE with PvP opt-in actually looks like that space, but at the same time it means that Rare would get attention for not offering some kind of 'pure PvE' experience, as Skull and Bones can/will demonstrate it's possible (even if people hate the actual implementation).

The PVP is very painful in this game. Why ? New players don't have any options to get better in PvP. The only way they can do it is by beeing crushed in 5 mins or less and try to improve in this laps time....

For all the slow people in this community, there's something you need to understand. The PVE experience in SoT gets tiresome pretty quickly. So people should turn to PVP. The problem is that it takes so much courage and perseverance to progress! So people leave the game. What happens if there are fewer and fewer players? No more game.

What's more, it's much nicer to have occasional players on this game than just a few people with 600 hours of gaming experience, isn't it?

The possibility of simple multiship or the ability to deactivate friendly fire would offer training possibilities. And the PVP will be more enjoyable and accessible for more player...

Stop beeing elitists guys... you're killing the game.

She finally convinced me to purchase the game a few weeks ago. Since I've played for over 100 hours, reached Pirate Legend and have really enjoyed my voyages on the seas. The game is filled with content and things to do, beautiful places and in depth stories but actually enjoying the story and PVE aspects of SoT is almost impossible. Not knowing the tricks and tips that the well versed community have access too as a new player can make the game seem impossible to play, I was shocked that the servers were not skill or level based match making. Because of this it is somewhat annoying that you cant have private servers or even just PVE servers.

As a new player I really don't think I'd recommend getting this game to others. It is hard to get into without help, especially if many of the players sharing your server do not respect the "Pirates Code", the toxicity that some of these seasoned players show is disheartening and unwelcoming to newcomers. While I have met a handful of fun and nice players over the last few weeks the bad experiences overshadow the good ones.

I hope that with Safer Seas being implemented we will see more changes for PVE players and in general a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Everyone has a right to express their opinions in the manner they choose. Sure, respect and understanding is ideal and should be encouraged but it's an internet forum, as long as there isn't any TOS being breached it's not worth the keystrokes.

Another thing worth noting is that griefing
/toxicity would be worse in some ways on pve servers. I’ve seen this in other games too. You think players are going to stop competing with you for loot? Big wrong. They’ll do whatever they can whether it’s blocking, kill stealing, ramming, maybe even take over your ship and drive it away? What’s to stop them from removing loot from your ship; maybe you can code this problem away but not the others. All the while you can’t do anything about it since you’re on a server where the thieves have immunity. It only takes me about 30 seconds of thought to believe that it would be awful in so many ways. I’d much rather learn some basic survival than deal with all that mess.

I respectfully disagree with most of what you said. A good programmer team would code the "No Collateral Damage" aspects of Safer Seas. For Example:

No weapons could hurt any other players, only NPC enemies.

*Any treasure belonging to a crew cannot be grabbed by another crew member; the crew that dug it up gets it. In case of a fort or vault, the crew that takes on that vault voyage gets the ownership of the loot if completed.

Kegs cannot do damage to crew or Ship that is set off by any crew member within a certain distance of any ship.

Other crews cannot take control of another crew's ship (Wont be able to board another ship to grab anchor, wheel, sails, etc)
5.* Alliances would be tricky because of betrayal, but i'm sure they'll think of something.
I'm sure Rare is thinking of making Safer Seas grief-proof, we'll see in December
