It alle very salty for the players and the dev team. Devs are trying to deliver us the best game and we try to play it to the max, and this cousing issues for both... we find bugs to laugh/criticism on, and they laugh/blame on it because of it dear game.

Season 10 delay is I personal thing something to do with both... and the monkey island tall. The pulled off something amazing, and that cost time.

The time they put in the tall was need for s10. Something that is overlookt... it for theam salty to, the aware that s8/9 was a empty and now ontop of this.

Honestly, I'm weird but I like when they delay stuff cus they usually give us GnGs as a "We're sorry" thing and GnGs are my favorite thing SoT does. Time to grind some allegiance!

well i played many hours into season 9 right till about last month and those encounters you described are pretty uncommon. My experience has been mostly empty servers and having to hunt for at least 30 minutes before i find a semi active one. Even FoFs became relatively uncontested after a certain point. The QoL was a welcome addition sure but not enough unfortunately. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one my friend.

if theyre still going to rerelease past season items each season then season 10 should have items from season 2 and 3 on season 10 cuz it will be 7 months season 9 and season are supposed to bee 3 months

The activity speaks for itself, there is just far more consistent activity in the longest season and that is because more people want to play and are enjoying playing.

As long as players without power and connections in this environment are having a higher quality experience and have realistic opportunity to thrive and establish themselves as the future of the game (which is what they are) then the environment is strong and the future is bright for the game.

@gosva5434 game development is hard, I 100% agree and believe that when they say it, however, am I going to cut them slack for not being able to put out an update 7 months after the previous one? No.

As Falcore put it in one his latest videos, there hasn’t been any new content in the game for 3 years now. Nothing brand new (with some small exceptions, and Tall Tales don’t count as they don’t extend into the sandbox), it’s been new ways to play the same old content. At some point, your playerbase is going to say “screw this”, get annoyed, then move on to something else.

This game used to be a fight over a fort with nearly no quality of life for those outside of pvp skill. Very little to do outside of archaic risk/reward where the reward was bread crumbs

People act like there were some incredible glory days of this game that the devs are killing off.

Most players of the game dealt with what existed because they loved sailing and adventure that much. QoL was nearly non existent for any play style that didn't line up with what content creators and their communities wanted to create/watch.

They were always incorporating feedback but for most of the game the feedback related to risk/reward/combat leaned heavily into what the social side of sot would suggest which is pretty much exactly what comes out of content creation communities. They are called influencers for a reason and very few of them have ever stuck up for principled risk/reward and those that are heavily effected by constant pvp focus.

What this game has always needed was risk/reward that did not punish the 97% so that the 3% can party. QoL for people that don't just pvp all day for content and clips. They eventually got to a point where that improved.

Now that it has improved, now that activity has remained consistent, now that people have qol in their experience, this is when they aren't listening?

Nit picking this content or that content is something people are free to do but when examining the entire environment it has significantly improved as an adventure game specifically because they finally started implementing more based on the actual majority of players rather than just the loudest voices in the community.

One of the best seasons this game has ever had in the organic environment and the narrative is that devs have lost their way? greedy? not listening? That's all out of the social side of sot, all out of content creation, nothing about the organic environment supports what people are going on about on this topic.

The biggest fear for me is that its going to be another copy and paste update. Im happy with waiting and the delays if the release is going to change the game, Fix the various reg issues, Fix cheating, Fix the engine, But if its just going to be another:

New item releases
Run it once and complete in 2 hours
Realise theres no new content and its just copy and pasted from other things in the game
Max out season rewards
Wait for next expansion

Then its really not worth it.

When a player goes out there and finds exciting random pvp scenarios, when they find it rewarding to HG, when they make random friends, when they steal/find something they needed to reach their goals, when they just enjoy sailing around others

these are not complacency, these are being satisfied with an imperfect experience that regularly rewards many participants through random encounters and experiences.

There is no "us vs them" in this game. Devs do the best they can with all the pressures and limitations that exist in this space and we as players do the best we can with the sandbox they offer.

They have improved over time in key areas which has improved the experience for more people. This makes delays sustainable.

Buying cosmetics isn't "keep me engaged how I want to be kept engaged" it is "I like this cosmetic and want it" and/or "I like the direction the game is going and this is a way that I am contributing"

As far as "I paid for the game" goes. People that stick around have a minimum of a few hundred hours and most of us that have been around are in the thousands. People are free to feel how they feel about that but objectively that is an incredible and rare amount of participation/enjoyment for the price.

@xk700 Putting more things to engage us while we wait would be nice, but I will probably not happen since the devs are under a lot of pressure to make season 10 great. Perhaps, once they get more content released and are under less pressure, they will add it for future seasons.

The entitled mentality of some players astounds me.

Yes it's understandable to be frustrated.

Having slept on it, my initial disappointment is gone, but I’m still left a little sour. It’s just that waiting and secrecy that I hate. Tell us what’s coming and let the community have some reprieve from having to wait an entire season for the next season.

I just had an extensive comment, rambling about my frustration on the continuues delays.

I erased it.
Because in the end, I believe it is not the developers decision or blame, but the company`s fault.
I wish the company (rare as well as microsoft) would find it in their hearts to improve on their aproach towards the game.

I just wish you guys the best on your progress, and I wish for us all to enjoy the game for years to come.

There was a pretty long rough patch there where a lot of the long time players that leaned pve were leaving the game, taking breaks, playing less

a lot of those players just aren't gonna return. how season 7 was implemented kinda sealed that deal in an unfortunate way

there are 3 main ways people approach encounters in this game

1. content
2. a ship to sink/mess with/rob/etc
3. random adventure with other people, treating them as people and not as content or someone to mess with.

3 is getting better. People are so dang interesting to encounter in adventure.

3 times in 2 days I've been chilling on my sloop having a sweet banjo sesh and I've just had people swim/row over to me and we just chilled for a few minutes. No idea where the came from, don't care, those moments are awesome.

When encountering newer players and it's their first encounter where someone was chill to them and not hostile. The energy of hope they put out in those moments is incredible.

I've sold like 3% of the treasure I would typically sell in a year, in the last year. I didn't grind HG, I didn't collect 30 cofs, as someone that would have once done it all.

I just sail around and adventure, collecting moments with people, most of which I've never shared in detail but am thankful for all of them.

So much promise left in this environment, so many interesting people still sailing around. I feel so dang fortunate to even have the opportunity to spend time on these servers with others, even after all the time I've already spent in this game.
