In general I get 1 for every 4 hungering 3 queen and 2 shadowmaw

obviously sometimes I get 4 ancient in a row and sometimes I don't see one for a week but overall that's what it works out to

point being that in this meg economy people are gonna be hurting to see the ancients unless they are specifically hunting megs as a major part of their session like I do

I've seen at least one; I vanquished 1 since milestones / Season 7; Got a total of 36 megs Vanquished (and 32 Krakens).

@crowedhunter I'd rather sink with stacked loot than miss an opportunity to let that rare beast go away, besides if you do damage and someone finished it off, I believe it still counts. So I doubt that Galleon would let it go either ^^

megs are for whatever reason becoming more and more random as time goes on

for a long time it was a pretty standard "wait this amount of time or that amount of time" but now the chances are still lower but they are randomly popping up outside of that "wait this amount of time"

it's not reliable or efficient at all but some servers do throw a meg at people 10-15 minutes after spawning in, there are some servers where someone can possibly get 1-2-3 megs fairly close together. Not dependable enough to justify pursuing it regularly but it's a newer development in meg hunting

I'm curious if they have intentionally tinkered over the recent months or if things just change over time unintentionally because of the updates and changes to servers.

A lot of their nerfing of pve spawns has been fairly silent over the years (not in the patch notes) so it's difficult to tell what is being changed and what changes as an unintentional effect.

If 9 is a quality of life season they should bump the megs up as a part of it

people need it for their commendations and it is devastating to nerf meg spawns for people without the shrouded

a few years ago we had them all over the place, that's good for shrouded chances

depending how someone plays they might only see 1 or 2 a week now which is going from low chance to no hope in the world of shrouded hunting

alliance server meg hunters shouldn't be the only ones enjoying great SoT content. They make things interesting and they are always awesome to see around imo

I'd make a few changes to make it more inconvenient for meg cheesing on alliance servers as well while supporting organic meg hunting.

The meg used to appear much more often, im not totally sure what happened, but they have gone down in spawn rate way too much.

When i first got into the game, every play session you could expect at least 2 megs to pop up, now i dont get even 1 but every dozen play sessions at best it feels like.

unfortunately since the last updates the megalodon is well on the way to extinction.

example: today I spent 4 hours in the game,
I went along all the edges of the map,
out apart from the port islands / seapost either the empty boxes in search of megalodon.

4H has passed and none meg did not arise.
and yet as said above 4 hours outside of all civilization,
there was a time when the megs heshad about ten per session,
today it's relatively Nothingness... :/

I had a meg spawn on me while docked at Daggertooth. I was sitting there for about 30 minutes just chatting with my crewmate and we were in that alcove of the dock closer to the sand(like how a sloop spawns for Daggertooth) and suddenly we heard meg music. It kept trying to bite us, but got the dock instead. Eventually it ended up ON TOP of the rock next to the castaway tent and we killed it with our guns. Then the loot fell from the sky LOL!

I wish I had it uploaded someone cool like you, I did clip it, but it is just saved in my captures on xbox.

As for the meg spawns now, there's so much inside the normal part of the map that they rarely spawn. What I do is every hour or maybe 1.5 hours I sail into open water close to the edges and usually get a spawn pretty quickly. Finding one between islands is a lot harder as they need X amount of space to spawn and with all the new rocks, sea forts, shipwrecks, etc... they don't have many spawn locations currently.

P.S. Apologies OP for off topic, I love fighting megs and wish the encounters were more often as well.

Mega show up more often in more open water so sail there if you want to find a meg.

Along the far west side of the map in empty ocean near the edge I find megs nearly every time I go there.

Meanwhile Krakens spawn in between world events and like to hit you closer to shore.
