What is the connection between all these elements? Why a cursed amulet became Ramsey's sign and not of the Reaper's emissary? Is there any info on what the Reaper's Mark actually is?

That is quite alright. I would like to know what are your thoughts on Reaper's Mark and why Ramsey uses it as Athena's Fortune logo? Shouldn't it be a Reaper's Bones symbol?

I've been thinking about this lately. The Reaper's mark *(red) seems to be used with cursed items, and usually ones made by pirates (Reaper's flag, chests). I don't think the symbol appears anywhere or anything similar to it out in the wild, so I'd guess the logo was "introduced" by Ramsey or other pirates and wasn't used by ancients. It's been a while since I've read the Athena's Fortune novel, so I can't recall if the necklace given to Ramsey was of ancient origin, or made or commissioned for him by Mercia.
Green version of the mark is being used by Legends and Ramsey so it doesn't bear the same meaning as the red does. Perhaps other "side" borrowed the logo from the other?

As for why it's used by Ramsey instead of Reapers, I guess reapers didn't want to reuse a symbol with their faction, and in the future chalice may play a larger role with their faction justifying the choice of having it as their symbol.

Flameheart is Ramsey's nemesis for the control of SOT. For this reason Flameheart sunk Magpie's Wing, Ramsey's most beloved ship.

Second, Flameheart has only 9 fingers (Sticher Jim has one as an amulet) while Ramsey has all 10 of them (his phantom reflecting the moment when he died)

The journal is Pirate Lord's and is titled "Ninth summer on the Sea of Thieves", which means this was not one of the first encounters Ramsey and his crew encountered on the seas, so nothing that happens in it indicates FH had been there long before others.

Maybe that was just the rag and bone crates but I think I recall that also being the contents of the red ones. The golden ones I have no idea. I would assume gold though since they are considered Tribute.

It could also be affected by the pirate using it. We know that Skeleton Lords are pirates consumed by their greed and bloodlust, so maybe the Mark reacts to that.

Also, is there any lore hinting at what exactly the Reaper's chests are? If the Mark does keep it's user from dying, maybe it works better with a glory-seeking swashbuckler than a war-like Skeleton Lord? Could the chests be something to keep Flameheart's Mark going and keep him "alive"? That would explain why the Servant of the Flame wants them.

That being said I leave you with another puzzling question: If the Reaper's Mark is Ramsey's sign, how come you can sell Reaper's chest only to Flameheart Jr?

Problem being Flameheart didn't sink the Magpies Wing, Rathbone did, aka the gold hoarder.

The necklace was given to Ramsey by his crewmmate Mercier, It is one of many cursed treasures they found when they first came to the sea of thieves. As far as its link to the other items I don't know. The flag came about as a way to mark your ship with a curse was the lore implication. It came out when cursed cannonballs were first released with the Warsmith quest line leading up to cursed sails and the cursed iron came from flamehearts ship. And if you've noticed the Reaper's Bones emblem is actually just an Hourglass but in reality it is the skeleton symbol for Chalice since they are definitely guarding the chalice under the hideout. A theory is that chalice is linked to the fountain of youth which would explain the Spanish soldiers. But basically the price for immortality is to be turned into an undead skeleton. So perhaps bearing the reapers mark bestows a similar fate albeit a bit more spectral in nature.
