When attacked/damaged your ship is patched with planks on various components. These planks stay on the ship until the game session ends or ship is sunk.

suggestion:

After a part of the ship is patched, a timer is set (maybe 5 minute) to slowly fade the plank out and return the appearance to its former glory

purpose:

This allows players to fully enjoy the appearance of the cosmetics they are using throughout their journey rather than having them damaged/distressed due to pve and pvp interactions.

sub suggestion:
Allow this to be a toggleable option in gameplay or visual settings to allow those players who wish to keep the distressed look an option

What if there was an option in the Shipwright chest to "Repair ship" & it would fully clean the ship from cosmetic damage and planks?

Happy sailing!

This would work better. Would also give more meaning to the shipwrights.

Planks randomly disappearing doesn't make very much sense at all, and playing with the effect on would be objectively better- a patched hole can be reopened if not playing with this regenerative feature, versus it eventually resetting to damage zero with the setting on.
I do like, however, the other ideas regarding this concept, my favorite being repairing your ship at the shipwright's for gold or doubloons.

I see your perspective and think that it makes sense from an immersion standpoint. I agree that jumli7's suggestion is certainly a more realistic and very acceptable alternative! Personally, I think that would be a very fair middle ground between reality and allowing players to have a nice looking ship if they so desire.

If the pirate potion has shown me. Nobody is happy with any appearance they pick or have.

Also. So you want to appear as a new spawn ship all the time than show those other pirates the damage you have from the course of your journey.
I say if I see a ship covered! In cannon ball damage, I’m not gonna mess with them.

New clean ship? Let sink them. :/

This would be for your own preference per my sub suggestion. Could always leave yours toggled off so you can see all previous damage :)

That's another great idea as an alternate solution and if it was made a small cost, it would also circulate the in-game economy for those players that already own all the cosmetics they want!
