But lets say my ship is loaded with loot and my enemies have no loot, I stand to gain absolutely nothing by standing my ground and fighting but I have all my loot to lose by standing and fighting, therefore the enemy has nothing to lose and I have everything to lose, this scenario doesn't make the choice to stand and fight a reasonable or smart choice.

Not only that but let's say you do stand and fight, you win the fight, the enemy has a good chance to spawn nearby only to come right back at you.

I approach this game with a little strategy, I don't always go in guns blazing especially with a lot of loot unless my attacker also has a lot of loot.

You can say that you could drop gunpowder barrels in the water but doing this you're hoping for the best and even if you do manage to strike their ship it is highly unlikely to sink them or even stop them. gunpowder barrels are high risk, very low reward.

I don't know the solution, but fleeing ships should have some options rather than boarding or standing their ground, if a crew is half decent they can prevent boarders with ease.

I personally wouldn't mind the ability to launch blunder bombs and fire bombs back towards enemies out of lets say a mini cannon, blunder bombs would slow enemy ships while also knocking their ship off course on impact. I wouldn't go as far as allowing us to launch cannon balls off the back of our ships but the blunder bomb idea I would stand by 100%

It sounds good. But .. the hunter have the same benefit.
Atm i like to drop kegs or drive by a fort to use the towers. Bring islands between me and the hunter. With a perks like ghost ship, nothing of this would work.

As another poster already said, its about the wits.

Every new element has to be balanced for hunter and pray, normal ship battle and world events. And this is hard to imagen.

I was also thinking about adding curses to your ship. They would be available to pirate legends only and could be voted as commedations. Imagine turning your ship ghost for 10 seconds to avoid damage and pass right through small rocks, or releasing kraken's ink from behind to slow ships, or go underwater and move randomly to a 100 metres range like skelly ship. I believe this addition as an en-game content would be awesome.

Also, pursuing ships have the option to harpoon your ship and prevent you from getting away if they get close enough, this could be seen as a disadvantage, but if you could launch blunder bombs off the back of the ship this would give you an advantage as well. Not to mention most crews don't have a large supply of blunder bombs so you would only be able to use this tactic for so long before running out.

any reaper or veteran player does supply runs on passing islands, uses tall tales to stock up, etc. i myself have on average about 150 of each thowable in 15 minutes.

and yes there are advantages and disadvantages to each ship, this does not mean that any one situationis impossible. as captain falcore & hitbotc, content creators and partners have shown us on stream, even a sloop can destroy a galley. part of the game is having wit. if you outsmart your fellow pirate then thats a win in your pocket.

use the storm. use flameheart. spawn a order of souls fleet and run them through it. use kegs, large rock spires, strategic boarding. a little forethought goes a long way when the chaser is so hell bent on catching you they stop paying attention to the surroundings.

get used to people attacking and chasing, its part of the game thats here to stay, its your choice to fight or run.

Pretty sure you’re not 60 years old like me 😂. I started gaming around 14 years old in arcades. I was probably one of the very first PC owners if you wanted to call a 286kb DOS machine a PC . Their isn’t adventure in this game but their needs to be. A Pirates life is a start. Rare is actually listening. This game has no stories PVP wise. Oh my first internet connection was 14.4kbs until 33.6 kbps was god made lol

pirate's life is linear story telling. Quality content but not true adventure. It's being a character in a movie for a few hours.

the seas are the adventure. never knowing what a session will bring. The ups and downs and positive interactions and the negative. Extremely fortunate and unfortunate happenings.

Diving into the unknown is the adventure and a pirate never knows what a session holds. Every interaction is unique and has potential. That's why many of us come back, we just never know what might happen out there no matter how many times we've sailed.

very rarely have I ever had a boring and uneventful reaper run

I'm not someone that finds combat entertaining but I enjoy the danger. Pound out events and skelly ships and people will come for me. Best of everything the game has to offer. I have big wins and big losses and I just embrace whatever happens happens on the server and it goes alright.

pvp wise I get it all from just random curious newish/casual players, to opportunist mid level players that just happened to be on the same server, to the server hopper skilled pvp crews that'll sink me fairly quickly or bore me so much that I'll just reckless myself into taking a beating just to finish out the session. Personally I don't like ending my sessions on a win I do my winning about half-3/4 into the session I like to be wrecked on my way out.

To me PVP has always just been one single element. If that’s your choice their are far better. My favorite all time was Dark Age of Camelot. I have to accept that SOT is small scale ie 4 boats. Unfortunately I like discovering, finding rare loot and having to figure out how to beat a scenario solo. Losing a ship in this game is no big deal. With that being said I still like this game 😂.

because I come from the times of waiting for cd's for 6-8 weeks in the mail and 4 hours to download a song and have it fail at 98% and walking 6 miles to go fishing for an hour then having to walk back and hunting for 3 days just to come back empty handed.

My adventure don't need to be fast food. I can wait it out. That's where all the fun parts of the stories are anyway.

Once a person masters their session strategy based on their abilities whether a new player or experienced pver it's all gravy after that even with losses from time to time.

Unfortunately session strategy is long and tedious. Logging in and 3+ hours life lost is common place. Nobody likes wasted time with zero outcome. The game world is boring. I like PVE and PVP equally. I like to find stuff exploring not voyages. One of the biggest issues I have is if I have to leave for work, supper or a long phone call. ALL is lost

session fails lead to longevity

I would have moved on a couple years ago and thousands and thousands of hours ago if I won all the time or if i enjoyed every session or if everything went how I wanted it to

Winning is boring. That doesn't mean losing always feels awesome it means that winning desensitizes adventure to where it's just a loot muling simulator with pretty scenery

The seas are humbling. No matter how experienced I get or how much gold I've hoarded or how many kills and sinks I stack up a session, bad luck, and other pirates can and will sit me down as if I'm nothing but a pesky mosquito that needs a swat from time to time.

People that refuse to adapt reap what they sow. The strategies for success are not complicated and they are not hidden.

Adventure isn't about winning it's about facing the unknown head on. Welcoming the danger and embracing the thrill and accepting the sacrifice

There is no reason to think any significant amount of people would play this game for as long as many of us have by gifting wins rather than requiring that they be earned.

ALL is lost

Ultimately with the Red Sea/Map borders you will run out of real estate and if you have to turn into the enemy advantage your screwed because your speed advantages are not big. With that being said this is a PVP game. I got murdered by an alliance crew today using my ship to two team a foe. This game requires thick skin. Rare doesn’t need to tailor the game. It’s a great game as annoying as it can be.

Okay so here is the tip sheet.

When fighting take into account wind direction and the enemy ships sail position. Most ships won't readjust sails when turning. They turn, then adjust sails when with the wind.

If you can position yourself correctly, you can force them into a full billow which will widen their turn or if done correctly, you can 180 while they blow past you.

Next tid bid that most players don't realize is that when the sails are full left or full right on the brig and especially the Galleon with full billow, the ship will tilt that direction and depending on the direction of the waves or the height of the waves, those ships will veer into a direction and if you go into the opposite direction it takes them forever to even get the ship to turn.

Using this tactic in the storm is a HUUUUGE plus because by the time you get out of the storm, if they are still following you, they will be FAR behind.

I've done this next tactic PLENTY of times but it takes an 3d awareness of the map and abilities of each ship.

I've direct ships onto barrels with kegs in them by having them turn INTO then while chasing me.

The last tid bit is mentioned from others.

Firebombs and blunderbombs.

Aim for the ladders and for the wheel. If you land firebombs in these position then they will have to go out of their way to put out the fire and IF someone is standing watch they are more than likely on fire. Get a good sniper shot if you miss the boat and you'll more than likely kill someone.

If you are good with the blunder bombs you can even knock players off their ship against a brig.

Now here is the problem with all of these tactics as is with MOST PvP tactics.

They take practice and time to learn.

Again, which is why most PvP'ers have no problems in dealing with situations like these because we deal with them ALL the time.

Just going to have to practice practice practice.

Good luck out there.

As the one in the lead you have the vast majority of options and control. Kegs, boarding, land cannons, throwing those bombs you want, using the environment from storms to volcano's to world events and even other pirate ships or simply drive-by selling. There are multiple approaches that you can take that isn't a direct fight and unlike your opponents you are the ones in control, as they are mainly reactionary based on what you provide.

There are certain skills that one can use to lose ships that are in pursuit.

The thing is that a lot of ships that runaway or any crews that are not really knowledgable about the games sailing mechanics will think that the best strategy is "straight against the wind straight on till morning".

That is in a sense the safest option not the best though, well depending on if it is dragging you off the edge of the map. There is a lot that goes on into the game that players don't factor into. There are those that don't even realize its there, there are those that see it but only when nothing else is going on.

Driving or being the Helmsman is a very important skill. There is a lot of nuisances to being at the wheel that most players don't realize.

I will give you a better drawn out example and tips later and hopefully that will let you see things in a new light. Right now I got dnd and company coming over.

Set your wheel straight(if in sloop do this when your ship is in position to be going at top speed, sloop would be against wind with sail flat front) jump off the front of your ship(not back) and swim. Grab hold of their ladder when they sail by, do not go immediately up , stay as low as possible. After giving it a rest climb up run straight to anchor and drop it , try to kill who you can, throw firebombs, spawn back to your ship.

Also my favorite way to get rid of a chasing ship is take them through a storm. Sometimes taking them through volcano area works too. We have had ships turn away because they do not want to deal with it.

Remember you are the one in control not the ones behind. I truly do not think we need anything added to fight from back of our ship.

@nabberwar There would have to be limits, maybe the cannon cannot turn, you would need to use your ship to get the angles you need. Either way not having anything while your attacker has the option for harpoons is a disadvantage, I am not saying the blunder bombs is the fix, it is just a suggestion.

Except, you have plenty of options. In fact, you already have more options than your pursuer. You can board, keg, as well as blundy and fire them already without the need for a cannon. Remember, these are throwables. All you pursuer can do is react or hope to get close enough to harpoon. Even if they get close enough, that is after battling endless boards, kegs, fire attempt to that date.

The lead ship doesn't need any more advantages than they already have. A chaser can do nothing but defend, meanwhile the lead ship can throw everything except the kitchen sink at them. You aren't asking for balance, you are asking for the ability to never get caught.
