Why fix speed digging?

  • What was the purpose of fixing the speed dig? The concept is the exact same as a sword dash, some people are good at it and some are terrible so what is the actual intention of this idea? It just slows the game down for no reason.

You want to say arena? 70% of the game people cannon farm instead... rarely does it go to chests anymore since the arena change.

While I do agree that digging can be tedious, this statement is false.

The sword [lunge] is not an animation exploit, like fast digging was. Sword lunging into water is using the existing physics in an unexpected way, it's not cancelling an intended function. Sword lunging into water is closer to an anchor turn than anything.

  • I agree with the change, just not how it was implemented. It's not smooth at all during the animation transitions...

  • @capt-soul-beard

Both the sword lunge and the shovel dig was an unexpected and not planned by Rare. However, Rare decided that the sword lunge was a cool feature and kept it in the game. As for the shovel glitch, it was not intended and Rare decided against it.

Personally, I feel that Rare should reduce the number of digs required to dig up treasure. It takes like 5 digs in the Arena and takes 10 digs in Adventure mode to dig up treasure

Wrong, speed digging and bailing are animation canceling, nothing more...that exists in more games than just SoT...the sword lunge is a thing with physics...like when you shoot out of a cannon and land in the water, the "boost" you get from the lunge acts the same way, so as said...an unexpected physic action that made the game better
The speed digging and bailing are gone for good, they just made the game faster and not better, especially speed bailing made it even unfair
But as @Galactic-Geek said, it could use a bit more smoothness between the digs...

Really? Because it only takes me about 3-5, depending on crew and loot size.

    It’s an exploit

    As @Meroviel said…

Shovel cancel simply does not work as intended and has always been deemed an exploit. The ability to stow/unstow items at a faster rate is not how the game is intended to be played and therefore will be removed. Sometimes things don't have to be game-breaking or sway a battle as bucketing does, sometimes we have to fix them because it's not how the game is intended to be played and we want everyone on equal ground.

  • @galactic-geek I’d say the ratio is more 4-7 for most play. I do solo sloop quite often and I hardly ever see less than 4 for a chest.

  • Most chests spawn enemies after the first dig.
I guess they intend to force you to clear the enemies and have your eyes down for longer rather than dig and run without a fight.

  • @capt-soul-beard RIP to good function I guess(

    I agree.

BUT!! When are we fixing the animation cancelling on guns?! That's actually something that is indeed game-breaking, and is often abused by double gunners.

  • @lizalaroo Are you serious? Better to have fixed the chest in the arena, and added new mechanics to the game, than to have fixed a bucket that didn't bother anyone)) Watch the video at the link, it raises much more important questions. Thnx.

  • @capt-soul-beard lolllll trueee

  • @greengrimz I believe rare does wish to fix it, but just don't have a solution yet.

  • In my opinion the x cancelling added depth to the game mechanics, anyone could learn it and didn't required too much practice, when an exploit has been on the game for this long it in some way becomes part of the mechanics of the game. Above that the solo sloopers are in a very bad situation now. I'm not happy with its removal but I can live without it.
So whats next? Remove double gun sprint?

Why would solo sloopers be in a problem because of the removal of the digging exploit ? When you're in a crew on a sloop you have to dig less times than when you're on a Galleon.

If you're talking about the bucket exploit, I think solo-sloopers had more problems with trying to sink a brigantine or galleon that was kept afloat by the exploit than that they had to use it themselves.

It seems I am going to eat my words … just tested it with Gold Hoarder L50 voyages on sloop and galleon (both solo), 4-6 digs on both ships.

As excuse, last time I did serious digging on a galleon was during Thieves' Haven Runs - perhaps the tediousness affected my counting.

Some grog to wash these words down with would be appreciated.

  • @freakwood09 Glad it's gone, now I don't have to worry about try hards turning my ship battles into 3 hour long ordeals
