Just an idea for a game mode where an NPC teleports you to a battle race where you are split into sloops and race towards a goal through obstacles. Maybe add the special cannon balls to be used but have them not deal damage.

Hopefully private servers would give us tools to do something like make a racing event.

There is a community organised event called "Race of Legends" if you're interested. Don't know much myself but, I did notice that they adding big floating markers to the custom servers, which I assume were added largely to help with this event.

to offer people quick and condensed action in a game that generally takes a lot of time to do things

in theory your suggestion could be a lot of fun if done right but it won't generate the interest needed in order to justify development resources

like 97% of time is spent in adventure and that isn't likely to change. There are a lot of side projects they could do for this game that would be fun but without consistent use by large amounts of people it's a waste of resources.

@sixtftkitten how about making that yourself? Search other ships on the server and start a race with them...

@itz-majman that's what obstacles would be for.

Doesn't really make sense since if you know the best angle for maximum speed the races would become really dull and boring.
