you are definitely playing the wrong game matey. Sinking you, killing you, stealing from you, spawncamping you are all acceptable things in Sea of Thieves.

You may have picked the wrong game, as much as I hate to say it.

Sea of Thieves contains: Krakens, Ghost Ships, Undead Skeletons, the Shroud, and more. It is far from a historical piracy simulator. It would be more accurate to say the game is based on piracy myths and legends than it would be to say it is somehow an accurate depiction of piracy.

PvP and theft are both an expected part of the game. There are even Commendations and Achievements and Titles based around the theft of loot from others. This is part of the whole shared world experience that Rare is aiming for, where you never know the intent of other players you might encounter. If you play enough, you'll find a health mix of pirate types in your adventures.

If that is not the kind of piracy game you are looking for, and you want something more in the vein of realism or lacking PvP I'd probably suggest Port Royale 4. It is a single player game, so no other pesky players coming to take you out. It is based in the Caribbean and leans on the conflict between the England, France, Spain, and the Netherlands within that region during the Era you directly referenced here in the thread.

Suffice it to say, not every game is for every person. There are loads of games I don't enjoy myself, and as a result I don't play them. Even games that have some facets that I might like, it doesn't mean I'll like the game as a whole. And that's fine, and actually even a good thing, because there are so many games out there that cater to all these different tastes. And it allows room for competition, differences in approach, and the ability to flex some creativity on the part of the developers making these games. So, please don't see it as a negative if this game doesn't happen to be for you, rather go an track down the game that is so you can have a blast during your valuable gaming time. Otherwise you can keep on giving it the old college try, and who knows, maybe the game will grow on you and you'll start to really enjoy it.

@disabled41 SOT isn't a historical Sim game, is a silly pvpve sandbox.
Think of it more like a combination of Rust and Fallguys.
You are encouraged by the game to attack other ships as much as you are to alliance with them, and it is up to decide what kind of pirate you are going to be every time you start up a new session.
Like I said, if you are struggling with the pvp side of this game, and find it to upsetting there are other pve sandbox style games out there that may be more to your liking.

If that is causing you distress, I suggest playing a different game.
