Besides what you described is relatively rare in occurance. You'll see that kind of thing maybe once in every 50 sessions. It was just rotten luck that it happened to you when it did.

welcome to sea of thieves it's a pirate game and unfortunately you can't help people sinking you it's part of the game and the dev have said no safe zones this is a shared world game people are with you on the seas as well so if they sink you you can pratise pvp and also get a new ship

There are no safe zones within the game besides the ferry of the damned. At least, having not started yet means you didn't lose anything so there is that.

@itsbigjosher I do that to people why should I wait for someone to prepare to attack me first. This game isnt based around honor. For all anyone knows you could be selling. Expect a player to attack you at every moment.

How to cope? The second you load in fill your pockets, turn off your lights immediately as to not look like a total bot, put your pockets in barrels, change cosmetics, fill pockets one more time, vote for Emissary then leave right away.

This game isnt about honor. I've sunk galleons sitting at outposts because I'd rather sink them now then wait for them to be ready to sink me. I'd rather be an aggressive floating ship than a honorable piece of wood at the bottom of the ocean.

Sometimes I scuttle my boat and look at cosmetics then have an awesome opportunity to rob an unsuspecting sloop.
