The Gold Curse was not unique - they were based off of the individual Gold Hoarders. Naturally, some were better than others. So, yes - pirates complained and changes were made.

Sadly, this is an example of where I think Rare made a mistake - instead of forcing everyone to use the same 1, I think they should have given them all away as Gold Curse 1, 2, 3, etc. just like they do with the default tattoos that are available from the get-go.

The forced choice is also why I don't use the OoS Curse - the one we're forced to use is terrible, IMO, compared to what we could have had.

I wish that curses stacked, that way you could have the gold curse with the black eyes thing

If ya look at my gamer pic I'm sporting the original gold curse i miss it and haven't nor will i ever put on the generic gold curse! I wish i could get it back it felt like it was mine and made my pirate look unique!

From what I know they changed it because a lot of players were unhappy with how the curse affected their character. Some people would do the long grind and get a nice, good bit of gold on their character, while others would only get a very small amount of gold skin, that usually was covered up by clothing.

I don't recall anyone having the gold curse before Tall Tales were added in the 2019 anniversary update. Maybe there was something similar in the character creater that I wasn't aware of.

No, Its not RNG. It's the same for everyone.

It was in the beginning, but people complained about some having small curses while other had the body covered.
