As a point of clairification, if you disconnect due to a drop in service you boat will remain on the server for 10 minutes in the condition you left it... IE, if your sails are down you will still be moving, if you have a hole, you will still be taking on water, etc. So your boat may still sink while you are away and you may lose your progress and loot.

But at least you have a chance to get it back. At launch, you were out of luck.

@filipicica there is a re-connect feature already in the game, a while now...
If you get disconnected, the game asks you if you want to re-join...works within 10 minutes

No. Absolutely no.

This would encourage people to sign out when they're being attacked. You get save points during tall tales, but that's about it. Every other time, you're tempest tossed by the sea.
