Skelly Ship Despawn

I have had several occasions, including one today, in which I defeated a skelly ship then mid sink, it despawned and I received no loot. Usually it despawns before sinking, but this time, I completely sunk it and was waiting for the loot to come up, and it didn't happen. Has this happened to anyone else?
