I was thinking that if an enemy player has died on your ship you can use the revive mechanic on them to send them to the brig. Once there the player will stay in the Brig for a certain amount of time or until one of their crew members boards the ship and releases them. I feel this will actually add a certain amount of risk to boarding a ship and could turn a battle now that one ship is a player short.

The exact mechanics would need some thought and testing. But the concept is good.

More of a cosmetic difference really but it would feel fun to taunt enemies in your brig. Maybe the timer is a few seconds longer than the Ferryman, to make boarding riskier.

That's a great idea!

But don't do it after dying, but allow players to catch boarders - that would make it difficult and wouldn't break the balance.

Also they could maybe pay ransom to get out, to avoid the timer.

No! Lets battle... nope, sit in the time-out box doing nothing... It isn't interesting game-play, you realize: kill them and they already have a timer that they are a man short?

I play a game to play, not to sit there and wait for timers to run out or being the damsel in distress needing to be saved.

This reminds me of another point I forgot to bring up in my previous post - what happens to a solo slooper that gets put in the enemy brig? Do they just essentially quit the game at that point? It hardly seems fair, IMO, since nobody would be coming to their rescue.

Also, because solo sloopers have a harder time than most, you'd be surprised at how crafty some can be with sneaking and ambush tactics. I think that giving the ability to them to imprison others would still tilt the game too far in the wrong direction.

Most of the game "challenge mechanics" are already preventing you from doing one thing (most of the cursed canonballs, for exemple, are just slowing, stopping or preventing you from using an object or a ship equipment). Being able to put someone of another crew you're fighting in you brig would be a frustration nightmare.

Then you would return back to your ship

Also it would probably be quite boring and frustrating to be stuck in an enemy brig tbh.

There is literally no need for such a mechanic, especially since it would force 2 things to happen:

It forces ANOTHER crewman to leave the ship to rescue their hapless crewmate, leaving their ship even more vulnerable.

It forces anyone left behind on the ship to hesitate sinking the other one lest they drown their imprisoned crewmate.

Furthermore, it takes away player options simply for playing the game? No. This should not be a thing. Ever.
