    @needsmokes .......

Or just drop xbox one from the equation, so that they can actually produce decent content to entice new and returning players.

    Like other franchises do.

Yes, A Microsoft studio's team not making games for Xbox 🙄

    I do have a question.
This game coming to Steam might keep it afloat for longer.
How many people do you know who have a validated copy of Windows 10 that is required to play?
Think this game will be a big hit there?? The steam forum doesn't suggest so.

  • 2

@needsmokes I know plenty thank you.

    And silly you 🤪

    I said xbox one.

Surely you can see where this is going right ?

    Or ....

    Surprise surprise.

Optimise the game for xbox one so that performance doesn't struggle anymore.

But I guess that undermines the poor me argument right ? Lol

I am just seeing it realistically.

Rare are owned by Microsoft studio's. They need to create new games for the next gen.
I just don't see them wasting the effort in an old title that you hope they would.
We have already had the announcement that if this game no longer remains self substantial, it's over. No more content.
That's when the emporium dropped.. Do we need to spend money on cosmetics that serve no purpose?? How long will that last?

That's why it's good it's off to Steam, they might make a few quid and carry on with it a while longer..

But the future is next gen, and it's coming soon. Rare are contracted to create new titles.. And maybe keep a skeleton crew on old games whilst they still make a bit of money.

Either way, it's best days are behind it now.

Your way of looking at "generations" is outdated as consoles integrate online updates, content delivery and microtransactions. Games that get supported online can be profitable for years. It happens all the time for PC games.

    @trippayy

The advantages PC has over Xbox is minimal. The only system that has any clear disadvantage is the Xbox One Original.

The hard-drives for most PC's, probably all PC's are in line with Xbox One X's. The only real deciding factor is the SSD which is not PC exclusive as I'm pretty sure you know that.

FPS does not make you a better player or mean you get better at games. FPS does not create super advantages for players nor do they create amazing advantages for players.

I capped my FPS to 30 on my PC for months playing Sea of Thieves and after spending some time letting my eyes and brain get used (I think took a week maybe? Can't remember how long) to the lower frame rates, everything was back to normal. My reflexes adapted and there was no changes in my game play.

Anyone who claims FPS matters or gives some kind of advantage is talking nonsense. Its all hype and players talking about things they don't know.

Skill matters significantly a lot more than FPS does. Can someone go from 120fps to 30fps right away without feeling disoriented? No. Your eyes need to adapt.

Perfect example. I don't know if anyone has every driven cross country, going like 70 to 80mph's for like 8 hours straight. The second you get into a city and you have to slow down to normal street speeds like 40mphs, the car will feel extremely slow. However 40mphs never felt slow before.

Same thing with hitting a fast ball in baseball. 90mph pitches feels fast to someone who is used to only seeing 60mph pitches, however given enough time and practice 90mph won't feel fast anymore but if you go back to only hitting 60mph pitches for a long time and then try to go back to 90mph, the 90 is going to feel super fast again.

Its all about your body and eyes adapting to the change.

So again no. FPS is not some super advantage. Its not even a little advantage. It just aesthetics and bragging rights. "oh man I got x amount of FPS, I'm so awesome!!"

He still thinks that console's are completely different from PC's.

You know, Quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, looks like a duck, but someone put a dog sticker on it so its a dog.

    That is his reasoning.

What I don't understand is how confused players are about backwards compatibility. The main problem that developers had to face with backwards compatibility was that the systems had different coding and decoding functions. The systems couldn't play pre-generation games because the systems in question weren't capable of running the code.

The console scanned the CD and ran the code that way. The scanners were specific to run the type of cd for that system.

We don't do that anymore. The games are installed and run off hard-drives. The disk is to unlock the game to allow players to play it, its basically just a key.

Everyone is talking as if the SoT console version is differnet from PC version and its not. Its the same exact game, only difference is that certain functions are locked or removed.

The game file is smaller for Xbox because their graphics is locked. Pretty much the only reason. Its not a different version and the PC version isn't some boosted version.

    Its the same game.

The Scarlett will have backwards compatibility because why not? There is nothing holding back the games from being played on the Scarlett. The games coding and functions will still be compatible. It will also have higher graphics abilities and M&K which completely negates every argument to have separated servers.

    @xultanis-dragon

That's because i have grown up with many console generation leaps.
Xbox, and Sony and Nintendo don't dwell on a game for endless years..

It works differently than games on PC.

    You'll see.

Rare work for Xbox.. Xbox demands new games every three years (more or less) from it's teams..

Do you really think the best devs at Rare want to continue working on an old game with very little possibility of future revenue from xbox coming in?
This will just be manned by a skeleton crew, delivering mediocre updates (2020) whilst the main teams are all beavering away on new projects. Like is already happening this year.. Or haven't you noticed?

Keep your diary open for the Inside Xbox event coming in July which will be showcasing all the work going on, on new games from it's Xbox studios..

This isn't a PC game, you just got to play it via microsofts attempt at making a PC store, which hasn't been well loved.. Might even be binned eventually as it's hated so much..

But you can always still look forward to getting Xbox games a few years after they peak on Steam. That looks like the way Microsoft will eventually go.. Less hassle and let's face it.. Crospplay isn't too well loved either on any Xbox game is it?

It's like the kinnect for the modern age.. Lots of hype and promise.. Failed.. Binned.. Phew!!

@xultanis-dragon Once again, there are very clear advantages, the load time with an Xbox SSD can be around a minute, while my PC can load it in 25 seconds. Another non FPS player showing how little they know about FPS, a mouse and keyboard will still be an advantage factor as it always will, and it is a lot easier to strafe and have better movement on keyboard. You cant be a god at many games with 30 FPS and on a controller, you keep bringing up skill but theres a limit to how good you can be with such a disadvantage, go play CSGO on 30 FPS then 300 and see the difference.

  • 1

@needsmokes Obviously Rare will continue to support Sea of Thieves, especially when the new consoles come out, because just like GTA, when the new consoles came out they got another surge of players and purchases due to the new consoles being far better. Rares biggest game is Sea of Thieves and Xbox knows this is one big factor that will come into buying the new consoles, PS4 has its exclusives, and Xbox has Sea of Thieves which cant be played on PS4.

Yup you have no idea what you are talking about. Don't talk about frame rates like you know what you are talking about. Going from 30 frames to 140 is not going to make you double your kill ratio. Its not even going to increase it by half. Its skill purely.

The xbox SSD is just as good as a PC SSD for load times. This has been proven by videos and by players on the forums themselves. So either you have no idea what you are talking about or whoever you are using as a reference has a faulty SSD.

M&K are only a advantage depending on the game. Sea of Thieves is not a FPS game. It has no headshots, no damage fall off, no damage mitigation, no limb shots or chest shots or anything. A shot to the food is the same as a shot to the head. Controlling the ship is also easier to do on controller, using cannons is easier on controller. M&K is not always the best input choice for every game.

A lot of the fights are on tight corridors and bottle neck positions. They are not in open fields or large areas. Xbox also has M&K support go figure.

I use to play CS way back when the best fps people could dream of was 45. I used to do quake, unreal tournament. My PC back then was garbage so my frame rate was less than thirty and I was still top of the leaderboards. If you didn't notice I capped my FPS at 30 for months to play SoT, not freaking difference in game play. Its called skill, get some.

You playing on 30fps is going to be the same if you were playing on 300fps, if you are bad you are going to stay bad, if you are good then it still does nothing for you. You just have give it time to get used to the difference for your eyes and brain.

    @NeedSmokes

Broski, I grew up with an Atari, I played nintendo and all the consoles. Why do you think I'm talking as if I don't have experience in these things?? I AM A GAMER. The only period in my life I didn't have a console was the past few years, and the only console from the NES generation I didn't own was the switch. I was the only one I knew of in my area that even had a DreamCast.

Todays consoles are not "different" from PC's at all. They honestly can't even be considered consoles anymore. They are just basically brand name PC's that can only play games from a single company.

Its the reason why there was SOOOOO many backwards compatible games for the Xbox One with 360 games. They games are running off hard-drive not a scanner.

Previous consoles had either chips that run the game like Nintendo or Sega, or it had scanners that would read the cd's like Playstation or Dreamcast.

Here is the perfect example that all consoles are PC now, can't believe I just thought of this lol.

The second you had to start installing the games onto a hard-drive just to play the game is the moment they became name branded PC's.

Before you could have a library of thousands of games and the console would run every single one of those one after the other no problem.

With the PC-Consoles now, you have to install every game you play and eventually you will have to delete games from your library and install/reinstall new/old ones once you run out of memory- aka PC. Congrats you own a PC.

@schwammlgott Yes ive been teaching them but yes unfortunately the problem comes when we are in close combat they are unable to do anything. They arent completely helpless when it comes to cannon and all that, but the close range pvp is where the huge disadvantage comes in. Like ive said the new xbox will hopefully bring a massive boost to FPS so that they can get better at using their weapons and not being so slow.

I do not understand that. I played on xbox first year this game was out. I played alone for while on console against others before opt out was even a thing. Then an xbox friend joined me and we did just fine on console before opt out was a thing. Then we met up with two Pc'ers and had a mix crew and we all did our part. I certainly did not need my PC friends to carry me like how you seem to be carrying your friends.

Now I am on PC and I still use my xbox controller. I only prefer to play PC because the graphics are better.

I think your friends need more practice to be honest.

    Already happens for console games.

You are correct though, in that the "traditional" console generation is certainly dead as far as Microsoft is concerned anyway.

If you prefer that kind of model, I hear sony has your back.
