Crossplatform Players

  • As someone who has a life and friends and doesnt have to use LFT posts to find people to play games with, thank you for making it impossible to enjoy my time on Sea of Thieves when playing with my xbox friends. It is ridiculously difficult to 3v4 4 PC sweats who main this game when I have 2 teammates with a combined 40 FPS and cant turn fast enough to shoot them jumping around you. When you forced the game to split into two, you ruined a whole playerbase and the whole point of crossplatform. This game is PVE based, but apparently you had to make a massive change that only effects the PVP side. My friends would love to play this game but what are we supposed to do against 4 PC sweats? The game runs [mod edit] on xbox so they cant do anything and i cant repair and fight everyone all at once. I love this game but its impossible to enjoy playing with crossplay, you should really remove the forced split so the people that have groups with the mix of platforms dont have to deal with trying to run away everytime, because there is no secret, a group of xbox players and a PC player can do anything with the state of the game, and how much the average player has played.

  • @trippayy I've read your post twice and I honestly cannot fathom what you're trying to say. It seems you're against crossplatform yet you want to be able to play with your friends on a platform other than yours whilst not encountering players on the same platform as you? Selective crossplatform perhaps?

Anyway. I play on an original Xbox 1 and have no difficutly playing the game. Just last night my friend (PC) and I beat a 4 player galleon at the Fort of the Damned twice, and before that came first in 4 Arena matches. That's just one days worth of playing.

Perhaps I'm missing a point here, I think you need to be a little clearer with your post.

  • I could be wrong but I read it like what he's saying is he's on PC but plays with a couple XBOX people. Since the Split when ever he plays with his XBox friends they are put into the "All users" pool.

Since most Xbox players now only play in opt-out (which is what alot of us said would happen should it be implimented, seriously go look though the cross play threads) then they are only facing PC crews, which ruins the enjoyment for his two companions.

Here is exactly what people were complaining about when we were fighting against the cross play opt-out (I still think it should only have been implemented for Arena)

Now if the OP had been playing with his crew before the cross play opt-out they would be facing mixed crews of PC and Xbox as well as just Xbox crews, and some PC crews. Now since opt-out if you play in the "All users" pool you will mainly be facing PC players, beacuse the Xbox players are all opt-out. This has the effect of making it seem like there are more PC players than Xbox, as well gives a rubbish experience for any new players who don't know about the Cross play opt-out as they will be put in with now a higher concentration of PC players

TLDR: Cross play opt-out is having consequences, the same ones that we identified when arguing against it. The OP has provided a real world example of how it has ruined it for his crew.

@Trippayy I do have to disagree with you on the game being PvE based, but you're comments about the cross play opt-out and how it only affects the PvP aspect of the game are spot on.

  • @badassfro Thanks for clarifying, that does make a lot more sense and I agree that you would expect to come across more PC players than Xbox. I must say though, I've always stayed in the crossplay pool and rarely have any issues with playing the game, completing content, or fighting other crews (sometimes I win, sometimes I lose - that's just the nature of it). I was against opt-out myself, but I really don't think it's that big of a deal. My play time certainly hasn't been ruined by it.

  • PC sweats

Excuse me! I will have you know I bathe regularly. However, back on task. My crew is mixed, your crew is mixed, mixed crews are much more common than you think. Last known count of who was opting out was rather small. My crew has the same success rate as to pre-opt out, so this sounds like a you problem not a cross-play problem.

Side note, I find this idea of referring to people good at a game as sweaty ridiculous. The kind of people who throw out that name un-ironically are by far some of the biggest sore loser out there. Someone will always be better than you at something. No one, including myself, is immune to this.

  • @badassfro

But wait.. Xbox is the majority pool of players on this game we assume..
Yet only 7% of those are opting out of crossplay.
So somethings amiss with your sumerization.

  • @badassfro LOL, where is the "proof" that most Xbox players are using the Opt-Out option. If anything it is still a minority of players using that option - myself being an Xbox player rarely use the Xbox only servers (only get on those when I feel like wrecking their feeling of safety on those servers) and my friends that play are the same. I even do so solo the vast majority of times as I have not fallen prey to the propaganda put forward and realize any advantage PC players have is minimal at best in this game. Even Rare has said that very few have used this option and I don't see there being a huge increase to suddenly make it a majority since that time. There has not been any huge surge in player count since the change was implemented (something also predicted by the Xbox Only mob yet has not materialized in weekly stats to back that up), weekly statistics show the game holding fairly steady with slight increases following content updates and tapering off afterwards - as it has for at least the past year (as long as this data has been tracked).

  • @badassfro Yes the game isnt solely PVE based, but I have been trying to help them do the tall tale quests, which hardly seem to have real loot involved, and unfortunately weve run into multiple galleons of PC crews who have clearly played a lot of the game, and we can't do anything but attempt to run away. I think that these tall tales should be its own thing, I completely understand the normal voyages, but from the few I have done, Im not getting much loot at all, if any, so its frustrating to try to do these while having to try to deal with PC crews and we are at such a disadvantage. I didnt think that there was a lot of problems before the split, but unfortunately the loud minority was able to sway their decisions. And I think that if they never split it, it wouldnt be as bad because now the PC players with friends on Xbox dont want to do crossplay, which resorts in less mixed crews, and if they would have them automatically mixed, you would see more mixed crews and the people who want to have a mix of Xbox and PC, arent getting completely stomped by 4 PC players. Everyone knows that playing on Xbox in this game is a massive disadvantage, you get 30 FPS, the movement is a lot worse, and everything runs slower, this isnt Call of Duty or Fortnite, where there can be really good controller players, so its frustrating for both parties to deal with this issue.

  • @nabberwar Well Im not calling everyone a sweat, how about a veteran of the game? And i got no problem dealing with them and can take down a sloop by myself no problem, but once Im dead its over and then you will get spawn killed until the end of day.

  • @dlchief58 Sorry but if you think that theres no advantage of PC players, you havent played PC or even watched a PC player, because Xbox is 30FPS and much slower when movement and even doing simple things like loading up around the ship, pulling stuff out etc. Dont say there isnt a very clear disadvantage, because this game is one of the worst ones when it comes to the limited abilities an Xbox player has over a PC player.

  • @needsmokes Where is this statistic that only 7% of the people opt out? If thats the case the xbox numbers are lying because I run into an xbox crew maybe once a week.

  • @trippayy

It was and has been the only official figure Rare have ever released about how many Xbox Players chose to use the opt out feature.

Check the crossplay mega thread and you will see this number being thrown around many many times.
Only a small percentage of Xbox users are opting out of crossplay.

What are you complaining about exactly?

  • @trippayy Except you're wrong. I never said no advantage, I said MINIMAL...and that is only due to the mouse/keyboard. Even then that advantage is pretty minimal due to the large hitboxes, sometimes questionable hit registration and lack of critical shots. Higher FPS does not give an advantage. Load times can be countered with a better external HD or an SSD (though completely not necessary, a 7200 RPM drive will put any Xbox player on par with the majority of PC players in terms of load times). Movement is the same (not faster) though M/K players may turn faster (an experienced controller player can do the same after adjusting the sensitivity and getting acclimated to it) but do not "move" faster than a controller player.

So no, there is no "clear" advantage for PC players ....IN THIS GAME. If we were talking some twitch shooter they you'd have a point, this game any advantages are minimal at best and a good controller/Xbox player or crew can hold their own against most PC players. You've been brainwashed by a lot of propaganda, repeating things you "heard" were advantages without truly understanding it.

So you're saying that as a casual player who plays with their casual player friends every now and then (because you "have a life"), you are upset that you get beat by "sweats" who play this game all day, every day.

That's kinda just how the world works.

Speaking of sweats, you just sound salty.

  • @trippayy said in Crossplatform Players:

This game is PvPvE. There was no massive change that effects the PvP side. Where have you been? And you can turn crossplay off.

P.S. There is such a thing as sensitivity sliders.

  • @trippayy said in Crossplatform Players:

    PC sweats

    alt text

It's so funny that salty PC players call xbox players sweaty, and vice versa. Sure I get sweaty because the ACs off, but I'm not a tryhard. (most of the time)

  • @dlchief58 [mod edit] There is a massive advantage, the fact that you said FPS doesnt matter shows how you know nothing about what youre talking about. Its way easier to strafe and move on PC, aiming is a million times easier and you keep saying how great these xbox players are, yet know one sees them. Theres no "propaganda" its first hand experience.

  • @dlchief58 Also its laughable you think Xbox players load in to the majority of PC players. Time and time again im out of the Ferryman before they even spawn on there. Keep trying to find something that helps your argument though, this is great, helping me so much more.

  • @trippayy Someone's salty today.

  • @supersnipper60 Splitting the two platforms was the massive change, before it people were willing to play with friends from other platforms, but now they would rather play with other people than be at a disadvantage.

  • @trippayy Turn crossplay off, and continue doing xbox turns with your friends. Problem solved.

  • @supersnipper60 Im on PC playing with Xbox players... why would i need to make a thread if that was the case?

  • @trippayy said in Crossplatform Players:

@supersnipper60 Im on PC playing with Xbox players... why would i need to make a thread if that was the case?

Then suck it up and get good.

  • @supersnipper60 Omg keep up. I cant 1v4 everyone, im not the problem I can take on multiple people, but I cant do everything for a group, the xbox players are at a disadvantage so they cant help when they face PC players that arent complete bots.

  • @trippayy said in Crossplatform Players:

Xbox players are at the same advantage as PC players. I can 1v4 PC players just fine (xbox btw).

  • @supersnipper60 Id love to see you kill me once, because you wont, your 30 FPS wont be able to do jack.

  • @trippayy dont like it?

Tell them to buy some capable PC hardware.

Or just wait for series x.

It isnt PC players fault that x boxes struggle to run this game.

    That's on rare.

And that's who your beef is really with.

  • @trippayy Are we going to insult each other's internet connection now?

  • I play on Xbox.. And whilst I am all in favour of opt out and have a better experience playing in that pool, I also play often with a friend on her pc.
I'm not a hopeless case against anyone on PC, but I also know for certain that a disparity exists making it much more of a challenge to compete. That's why crossplay had to be optional.. Its not 100% equal by any means. No matter how fast you adjust your settings and adapt to get used to it. The bad hit markers make little difference as it is just quicker to aim a mouse to a target than a controller set to max.. That is fact.. So yes, someone on M&K will always get the shots away first, and can spin and react in swordplay quicker making an Xbox player feel as if they are fighting whilst walking in tar.. But that's a price you pay if you want to use crossplay on Xbox. And your forcing your friends to endure by continuing to play with you rather than turn off crossplay and play on a equal footing with everyone else.

  • @troubled-cells So the solution is to buy a PC, therefore the xbox players are at a disadvantage. Atleast you agree. And yes i believe once xbox players can play this game at or around 100 FPS, they can start competing much better, but until then theres a massive disadvantage, unfortunately some xbox players think they are dominating PC players and dont know anything about the technological differences.

  • @trippayy XBox player here...playing in crossplay only...often solo...the other day I took out a 3 man brig with all PC players by my own...
As long as you watch the ladders and keep the fight on the seas, they have NO ADVANTAGE AT ALL! Only in a 1 on 1 fight they have the advantage of better and faster aiming
So teach your xbox crewmates how to watch the ladders, as long as they can't get on your ship it really doesn't matter how good they are in a 1 on 1 fight

  • @trippayy the solution is to buy better more capable hardware.

You would've realised I mentioned series x in my post as well if you had bothered to read it properly.

    Want it sooner?

Go tell and screech and phil.

Even on the preference, SOT runs awfull on current gen xbox.

Like I said your issue is with rare.

They are the ones that optimise the game for said platform, or in this case not optimise.

    Not PC players 🤣🤣

  • @schwammlgott Yes ive been teaching them but yes unfortunately the problem comes when we are in close combat they are unable to do anything. They arent completely helpless when it comes to cannon and all that, but the close range pvp is where the huge disadvantage comes in. Like ive said the new xbox will hopefully bring a massive boost to FPS so that they can get better at using their weapons and not being so slow.

I do, and that is on a Day One console to boot. And that is because I made an informed decision when I set up my external drive. Can't help it if you cheaped out and didn't get a quality external or are foolish enough to run this off the stock hard drive.
