Outposts in Adventure mode should be Peace Zones
-
Adventure mode would be more enjoyable for newer players if outposts were Peace Zones. Players wouldn’t be ambushed at their most vulnerable time when they have a ton of loot that they worked hard to get. If I can get 1,000 signatures here ( http://chng.it/pvCpQXpN) I can make this a reality. It would be a very easy fix and would make the game so much better for beginners.

get gud lol just get better at pvp and expect you're loot to be stolen it's a pirate game
-
@joebamba5951 how are you going to make it a reality. also no. just no. defend your loot or you dont deserve it.
-
so in a game where stealing loot is one of the main things you want to make the spots that you turn in that loot peaceful? if you don't want your loot to get taken scout the outpost and be more careful. i wouldn't mind a peaceful spot on the map but it should not be a place where loot gets turned in. in this peaceful place people should also still be able to pick op any loot so you cant always just run away and wait until the chasing players leave.
-
@theeggoplant I just think that the time to defend your loot should be when you are at sea defending against other pirates, not when you have finished all your hard work and now at your most vulnerable.

Don't only turn in at the end of your session.
If you're not good at defending the stuff you found or don't like losing "a whole evening's worth of gold", start turning in the moment just before you have more loot than you would care to lose.

Just so we're clear, I strongly disagree with this suggestion, but I want to try and convince you why your idea wouldn't be as simple a fix as you claim.
Let's figure out the logistics, and then think through the ramifications:
Can ships be damaged in safe zones? This means that someone can camp just inside the safe zone and shoot cannonballs at a ship outside the zone. It also means that a ship only needs to flee to the nearest outpost to avoid pursuing pirates, which goes against the spirit of the game (why else would the reaper's bones exist if not to promote PvP?)
Are players immune to damage? This means that a troll can lock you inside/outside of a building simply by standing in the doorway- you wouldn't be able to dislodge them.
Are you unable to pick up another player's loot? This means you can't turn in any loot you took from another player (again, Reaper's bones exists because Rare encourages this). Can you gain ownership of loot if you're the last person to handle it before entering a safe zone? That means if someone sneaks onto your ship and handles all the treasure before you arrive at an outpost, you've just ensured you cannot pick up your own loot because it's no longer "your" loot. Tucking is bad enough already; this change would encourage it.
Are there AI guards to protect people from other players? How would they know who the aggressor is- whoever shoots first? It would be easy for players to learn the system and exploit it such that they sic the AI on the very people they were meant to protect (again, what I said earlier about standing in doorways).
Basically, every suggestion you can come up with to "make outposts safe" has an exploitable downside that griefers can take advantage of. Besides, Rare has outright stated that loot does not belong to you until you sell it (can anyone find the direct quote; I know it exists but don't have time to look for it).
Won't happen.

I'm not gonna say git gud... I will suggest finding a cosmetic set you like and go for that first so you don't have to worry about lost gold.
I will also say...as a solo slooper (99%of the time)
Listen to those that give advice about keeping an eye on the horizon. Check the map for reapers. Learn how to do sail by's.As much as I would LOVE to see the thieving, murderous pvp element get nerfed right in the flintlocks, this is like skipping boss battles. You gotta learn how to deal with the pvp jerks (luv you guys lol)

@limbicfanatic Damn I’m just trying to make the game more fun for newer players by changing a small aspect of the game. This is not that big of a fix and would make the game a lot better for beginners
-
@joebamba5951 said in Outposts in Adventure mode should be Peace Zones:
@lem0n-curry but you’ll be selling your stuff not defending your ship
The amount of loot you'd have on your ship and loose would be the same if you get killed & sunk when you start turning in your loot at the outpost or when you get kegged a 20 seconds swim (*) before you get to the dock wouldn't it ?
Also: Why stop defending the ship at the outpost ?
(*) or 40 seconds, depending on how big this "safe zone" should be.

Now I'll say git gud.
It's a sharp, steep unfair learning curve but that trial by atomic fission is what make us good -

My earlier post wasn't aimed as a personal criticism; I was trying to point out why safe zones aren't a good idea. People have been asking for safe zones and private servers for years, and Rare have made it clear that they won't add them.
Judging by your post and forum rank, I'm going to assume that you're fairly new to the game, and recently fell victim to another player when you were just trying to sell and log off. That's not a bad thing; all of us were new at some point, and most of us had to learn a hard lesson that there is no such thing as safe in this game.
Rather than ask for safe zones, my advice is to team up with an experienced group of players who can teach you tips and strategies (and also provide safety in numbers). You'd be surprised how much this game changes when you're playing in a crew with friendly players who communicate and know how to deal with most situations. This will also change your mindset and how you approach the game, which will hopefully make it more clear why experienced players are so against safe zones. I wouldn't recommend open crew, though; try discord or one of the groups mentioned in the forums.

It is not a small change. It would cause a lot of issues. You are asking to change something that is not broken. What happens at outposts is exactly what was intended. We were all new players so spare us the “I am looking out for the new players” routine. Forts, outposts, reaper chests, and so on were designed to attract crews to a handful of locations for a reason.
-
If you can get 1000 signatures, you can change the game for 10,000,000+ (Rare published number a while back)?
Outpost safe zones won't and shouldn't happen. Loot is everywhere, you can afford to lose a little. Keep your head out of the sand, and be aware of your surroundings and your game will be a lot more successful. The most paranoid you are, the more cautions you take, the "luckier" you will find yourself with player interactions.
And if you cant do that... well this simply isnt a game for you

Yo, you should go check out the PvE servers... oh wait they aren't coming, just like your 'Peace Zones.'
-
Lets not and say we did. Also if you think 1000 signatures is going to do anything take a leaf out of the PVE server crowed. 2 years of begging and they are still being told no by the Devs. You don't want to get your hard work stolen? Don't let someone steal it, simple as that. if you don't want anyone to have the option go to a different game. Asking for safe zones in this game is like asking world of warcraft to take out dungeons. Your barking up the wrong tree in the wrong game.
-
@joebamba5951 why are you at your most vulnerable? ur at most risk, this is different if you are scared of loosing loot turn it in sooner this way you arent always at risk of loosing a lot and if you say this because you used up all your supplies then fill up more. if all combat was always at sea then people that loose their loot would want to take away cannons. loosing loot sucks so.. stock up know your risks and evaluate your team. no need for safe zones or places you can run to. people are already doin that with the shores of gold tale and its not fun for anyone. i know you are just suggesting but this is a core part of the game and honestly defending your stuff against a crew and winning feels nice. there is a reason that you dont just get the gold when digging it up or finding it. its because these interactions that the game has its appeal you win some you loose some. you learn what to do and what not to do in a game where there is no character proggression its all up to you to learn and adapt. its awesome. the better players get the loot because thay know what to do. and you get better from learning why you lost it all eventhough its frustrating.
-
I understand why you believe this, but you're wrong. Play the game a little longer and you'll begin to understand why. Peace zones are not compatible with Sea of Thieves for a lot of reasons. You're perfectly capable of protecting yourself and your loot at outposts or anywhere else. You should know far in advance if there are any ships about, so nobody should be able to roll up on you. You can circle the outpost to make sure there are no mermaids in the water, telltale signs of an ambush. Check your ship to make sure you don't have any stowaways waiting to jump out and kill you. Only then should you be offloading your loot. Outposts are meant to be focal points for potential ambushes. Learning how to handle these situations is a big part of the game.
-
Imho it would make it all worse and shift the PvP at the boarders of the safezone only, nobody beeing able to fight back!!!
So i then sink you 3m in front of the pier, grab the booty and start laughing at you while beeing invulnerable. How to deal with the cannons at the Reapers Hideout? I can shoot incoming ships and are invincible?
Not thought through enough!
-
Step...
-
Drive with careful speed and distance around an outpost you are suspicious of
-
Check for mermaids, or generally the presence of a rowboat
-
Always grab the PvP weapons of your choice, 5 blunderbombs, the best food you have, maximum planks, cannonballs, cursed cannonballs etc.
( Stuff in your inventory cannot get stolen at any case never forget. ) -
Board the island from afar with a cannon and double-check if you have reason to assume someone hides on the island.
Start the massacre if you find a camper nearby the empty rowboat. The Mermaid does not appear nearby a rowboat that arrived at an island.
If there is a Mermaid but the pirate is hidden away too skillfully, leave the island should you feel you carry too much treasure to face the risk.
And also...
... try to always have your team-mate which hopefully exists guard the ship and take off immediately should you be overwhelmed. -
Enjoy people here in the forums mocking you for an assumed lose against campers in PvP
with your loot being stolen which has never happened not even once.
I lost to pirates before. But never to campers. Nor will I ever.
-
-
@joebamba5951 I agree, but I'm afraid that will never happen. It's honestly all down to the people and I'd love to see a more roleplay approach to the game and maybe adding penalties when killing certain ships atleast in Adventure mode. It would also be cool if they atleast added some cannons at outposts with NPC's controlling them and firing at attackers. And afterall there is the Arena for people that really want to play PvP battles.

No. Just no. The devs have always made it clear, the loot to u have on your ship is not yours until you turn it in. And NOWHERE is safe. You need to have an eye on the horizon at all times. And don't hoard loot on your ship. Make routine unloads at outposts.
