Does leaving the sails up a bit make your ship faster

    I was playing with my friends and I noticed that the sails weren’t all the way down so i put them down them my friend goes “WHAT ARE YOU DOING” and I say “oh what you can’t see” and he says “yes but it makes you faster if you keep the sails up a little bit. That’s a big boy fact.

    @yacobp No, I don't think that's true. I used to tuck up the sail a little for visibility and then stopped doing that when I got chased down by the same type of boat.

    Raising sail up a little
    So they graciously furl;
    Is now commonly 'ferd to
    As a Courtesy Curl..

    Ye ship won't be faster
    But less time is thus spent;
    Running stairs &top deck
    To gaze the ever 'horizent.
