Wouldn't surprise me at all if these reports of how horrible it is for those in crossplay are greatly exaggerated. Would be very fitting of the crowd who worked so hard to try to keep the xbox players from getting what they want to embellish their crossplay woes.

Initial impressions from cross play users seems to indicate it has indeed affected the matchmaking experience through player interactions or lack thereof and increased merging frequency.

Don't worry, the skilled Xbox players who can handle themselves won't opt out as they want a challenge. The less skilled Xbox players will probably opt out so they have an easier time, unfortunately that is probably the majority so you may notice it on the server population but it is too early to tell.

The good news for PC players is that when you open crew you, if you get paired with an Xbox user who hasn't 'opted out' they are probably a decent player (or unaware of the choice) so it will be good for your crew.

We all enjoy a fair Sea, with or without crossplay. Rare got something right when they made a game with the intent of balancing both, and when they equalized out the advantage with an equal advantage, leading to more tactics and skill instead of an annoying system for both sides.

I read the first page and imagine the 2nd and 3rd go about the same.
First off I would like to say I've been beaten by many xbox players. When you get someone with skill against you the PC and xbox differences do not really matter in my opinion. In fact I've had talented xbox players take out my entire crew many times single handed. I am in no way a bad player. I'm not the best in the world but i'm certainly in the upper middle rankings. Sure, I usually 'dumpster' the casual xbox guys who just started this game or don't play it often... That's the same for pc players though. This game isn't like other games, you've got to play a ton to know what you're doing. Sometimes it's as simple as knowing when to turn right instead of left, things that come with knowledge of the game.

Next I would like to say i'm glad to see xbox players saying they won't opt out. I did not expect to see this and hope the game is still fun after the change... Fun for everyone.

I think this is a great game and love it even when i get my butt kicked. In fact some of my greatest and most exciting moments are when I meet a good crew and get sunk. I always learn something and become better at the game afterwards.

Console players will STILL be playing against pc players especially late at night when the playerbase is minimal. This was probably just a "security theatre" style of change to make people think they are not playing with PC players anymore, but let me say again Console players will STILL be playing with pc players just not as much. Also something to think about is it creates an Avenue for exploitation as people will buy products that I will not name that can trick your xbox into thinking it is being used by a controller while in reality they will use M&KB. This should make console.players more para of actually.

Yet, Rare is making the statement it isn't the case and whether that is true or not is up for debate.

My personal stance has little to do with it, yet as a company I don't think that they should offer an option based on a game balance decision, by their own accord. Which was the justification when they introduced it, but then turn around and limit it to a specific set of customers. If they add something like this based on game experience, balance to the game, shouldn't it be done properly, fair and treat us all equally.

If they just want to come out and state, input is fair game... this is about xbox. That is something they can do, but then shouldn't xbox users with a mouse and keyboard be given the option.

Rare should be better than what they are showing us. Just my opinion.

@jjblackhat you really don't get it. PC, console... I don't care and it should not matter. Provide balanced experience and that is about input model. The platform should not define us. We shall sail together after all. People bought a crossplay title for a larger stronger community, not to then play only with their own.

You can state well hardware matters, yet xbox one, xbox x, xbox scarlett, xbox with SSDs attached to them, they also have different performances just not as varied and in the PC market we have the minimum specs that we need and from there you can spend thousands upon thousands. There are rigs out there that cost 30k... the sky is the limit.

This is not a controlled environment like a lan tournament, this is the internet and people have what they have, spend what they can on their hobby. When people state well just buy a xbox if you want to play controller only servers. I just don't see how a downgrade or sidegrade is supposed to be ok to tell someone to buy. Yet if I state well if you want better performance, spend money on a PC? It would upgrade the system performance instead of remaining equal or even have worse results that is out of line. It doesn't make sense to me. Some people do not have the luxury to own a dedicated machine for gaming and game on their PC, laptop, they need for school or work. How can anyone here make a statement about a requirement to buy something and state because of that, they own something, that they should be restricted or given specific options in the game.

I am sorry for your loss, your ADVANTAGE loss. I won't be seeing you on the sea's most likely, and that's fine by me! BEST THING RARE DID YET.

My advantage loss? My PC is still just as good as it has ever been and it runs smooth. My controller or mouse and keyboard, still the same. I never wondered before I went to battle or prayed to the gods; please let it be xbox players! I need a win! I fight when it suits me and I win or lose. If I win great, if I lose I figure out what I did wrong and learn. Never take risks if you are not willing to lose it all, avoid, sell and turn.

What I lost are fellow controller players to play with. What I lost is the ability to jump into a friends game, as I tend to be later on in the evening, when they have a spot open when they picked the opt out option and force them to give up their session progress so I can join.

My loss has nothing to do with combat, as I am not bothered with facing anyone. I have no grand illusions about my abilities, never have been and most likely will never be a PvP God. Yet I can keep myself safe out on the seas with good decisions, hope that now you have no more excuses that you finally can get that feeling of being the best or maybe you're going to start asking for PvE, who knows...

My disappointment in Rare is based on principles and expectations that I have of a company that has shown they are capable of making great games.

Nice trolly post, but it just shows how immature you are.

I have even rage quit games because of it. I just never demanded that the game changes to give me special treatment because I didn't buy a better product. PC players will get angry at their PCs, we have amazing videos of people flipping out. Yet we understand that this is not something that developers should control and manage.

Pros care because they play for a living. Big Tournaments are held in Lan format where all players are supplied with a machine. Because it matters from connection speeds to FPS to monitor refresh rates. There are hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of prize money on the line.

If it mattered based on equal performances, where are the demands for external SSD bans from opt out or Ping restrictions? It is because it isn't about the difference it is about them being at the top of the performance tree potential, not middle of the pack. The fact it costs more... to be ignored, it is on PC players to buy something else, even if it isn't as good as what they have.

The thing is, lets be honest, PC players have a slight advantage over xbox players. I play on xbox and crew up with a friend whos on PC.. I typically get wrecked by PC players in this game when I solo and its not a question of just "GiT gOoD" but its those little advantages the PC players have that frustrates me.
What I have to fear from xbox players? Actually a fair amount, especially when I play on my controller. I have not stated that Rare's concerns regarding input is invalid, I get it. I just don't get why PC players are not given the same choice?

My 3 year old 'super' computer doesn't make me a God and I have met xbox players that even defeated me while I used mouse and keyboard. Skill is a very varied attribute and I am more an RPG player than a shooter, usually a support, tank, heal player at that. So, no 360 no scope headshot shenanigans in my repertoire.

I play with my style and am very successful with it. Have soloed a ton and rarely placed myself in CQC because of it, unless I am in a brawl mood. The style lends itself to controller play perfectly and is why I at times just sit back, grab my 360 controller and play. When I do and end up in CQC I experience the same distinction between the two inputs. I am not immune because I have some more FPS or a SSD.

When xbox players start about the performance differences and how unfair it all is... sorry, but I have been gaming on budget PCs, laptops, second hand devices for years before I was able to buy this one. My previous one was 9 years old! 30 FPS used to be a dream, if I hit 20 FPS stable at lowest settings we were good to play. Played versus people with triple, quadruple the FPS and managed. Do you notice it, yes.. it is insurmountable or something you cannot get used to, no. Now I have a machine I love, I get told for one game to discard it, buy a xbox that isn't as good and pay a monthly fee... as if I just have money falling into my lap on the daily.

I was in South Africa last year for work, played on a pretty good laptop, 60ish FPS on medium settings, but with 200 ping Minimum. Really no matter my FPS... no fight was easy, some even felt impossible and man the ship even sometimes sailed below the waves.

People that act like real life restrictions are not a thing in the online multiplayer environment are kidding themselves. If a xbox player has better internet, they have an advantage, if a xbox player has a SSD they have an advantage, if they have an elite controller they have an advantage over their own community and even some PC. All those things cost money. Having a PC doesn't mean you have top performance out of the blue, if you have minimal spec requirements... you have a disadvantage even.

Rare should not make our platform a distinguishing factor in the options we are offered, especially not one that they stated themselves is about balance: controller vs mouse and keyboard.

As you state, we should have the choice and see how it turns out. For those xbox players that fear a surge of PC controller players in the option... really how many PC players do you think pick up a controller?

You are a nice guy, as I stated before. The xbox and PC player based has a huge variety of types of players. From those that just started out to veterans, from tryhard sweats to hippies that avoid conflict, toxic trolls, sneaky ninjas and pretty much anything else. For anyone that claims this is on a groups play style is absurd. The community has been painting PC players as boogiemen to be feared, that have ungodly powers and even here in this thread make claims of us being cheaters. Resulting in hardliners on the xbox end that out of no reasonable point refuse to play with PC. We aren't people anymore in their eyes, we are just the device that runs the game and that is what Rare decided to back.

The company that had the mantra of No asterisk crossplay, where PC or Xbox... all features would be looked at from the perspective why aren't we offering this to the other platform? I am curious about the answer, but my guess for this choice is greed. It is why we have no statements about it coming for PC in the future, that controller only servers will become for both. That PC controller preference has not be deemed unimportant, like it usually is. To small of a demographic, we ain't the money cows. This is the reality, money talks and the majority group defends these actions, because they got privileged status.

It's also regional, of course. Plenty of ways to not see someone on the Sea at all in that regard, though crews kind of mess with it in averages or joining after regional assignment. Chances are you never would've seen many people on the forums and the Sea at all, among the millions.

well it is 'prefer', not the ability to full enable opt out - etc. So you never know, it's still possible just less probable.
