It's crucial for any shooter, especially one with no progression, to have more features that involve skill.

Blunderbuss
Shots to kill player: 2
Headshots to kill player: 0
Reason: There is very little skill involved running up to a player and one shotting them. As long as that exists, blunderbuss would be used for 90% or more of PvP gunfights. It's just not fun and also if we're going to change the blunderbuss, it should not be able to benefit from headshots. That'll just recreate the same issue with the gun currently.

Pistol
Shots to kill player: 3
Headshots to kill player: 2
Reason: If blunderbusses will be nerfed, we don't want everyone to move over to pistols so fast. So now you got to hit players 3 times or make 2 headshots in a row. This should be for more skilled players that like to play at a distance.

Eye of reach
Shots to kill player: 2
Headshots to kill player: 1
Reason: You don't see people use this weapon enough, but it does have it's place in certain situations, like at a distance and in water. Adding a one shot kill with a headshot, would make using this gun more useful in gunfights.

Oh really? Tell me, what would happen if they removed cannons, guns, swords, and just weapons altogether. You think there wouldn't be a huge drop in the player-base?

wow. Okay first: would you mind quoting me where I said this game ISN'T a first-person shooter? How about where I said it IS a first-person shooter? Can't do it? That may be because I've never said either.
Secondly: Sailing simulator, seriously?! Who said anything about a simulator?! You believe this game is a First-person shooter, but that doesn't mean it's anything like a combat simulator, and shouldn't be compared to one, the same holds true for a 'first person sailing game' (which doesn't even really exist, as I was actually trying to lighten the mood with a little play on the 'FPS' acronym).

Keep taking every word you read so incredibly seriously and you "Won't be here to have the last laugh" due to stress related illnesses taking you down.

I try to make people laugh and I get told I bought the wrong game... Who'd have thought?

Idc about everything else just leave the blundys alone man. It's the only weapon that is ideal for defences in general unless you have sharp eyes for eye to hand coordination for the other guns.

Oh dear, nothing simultaneously annoys me and brings me joy more than having to educate some clueless crier on the forums.

Right, here goes nothing, let’s try to teach the unteachable.

Evidence Piece Number One
(which is one more than you have, funny that):

Between the 4th and 5th of September there was a grand total of 1,492,579,497 gold collected, Rare confirmed this on the ‘Official Contests’ thread. Now, let’s humour you, let’s say the average player gets what? 2,500 gold on an average day when playing, rep and stuff probably brings it to that, probably less actually.

Divide the above by 2,500, so that gives us a minimum base of about 600,000.

Evidence Piece Number Two:

We also know that players visited 844 million islands in the first year of the game (search ‘Sea Of Thieves Anniversary First Year In Numbers’ - for that and other good statistics) that gives us a much more nuanced average of about 2.3 million a day. I don’t know how many islands you visit, but I think 10 per session is quite a generous average - some roam far and wide, others go Outpost-Fort-Outpost.

Whilst not all pirates go for gold, they all certainly island hop.

That tots up to an estimate of about 230,000 players visiting a minimum of 10 islands a day.

Theory Evidence Number One:

Player numbers will obviously dip between updates - I presume that your skull is not entirely hollow (that’s a joke) and that you realise this. I have encountered more ships per server since the last update and I would surmise that the game is thriving. The game is better since the Anniversary update, it’s got a prime spot on the Game Pass and I know a lot of people who’ve been picking it up as a result and so I think it reasonable to assume the game has risen in popularity. Hence, if the game is doing well now, come Fort of the Damned event (I believe it’s called that), the game will boom again.

Theory Evidence Number Two:

Player numbers have undoubtedly increased since the Anniversary and none of this takes the Arena into account, I have friends who never even touch Adventure (and don’t even try the ‘Arena servers are empty’ line because we all know the matchmaking sucks). The Arena is actually in a pretty good state right now I would say (when not stuck doing par core in the tavern and even that’s a lot of fun).

Note:
If you mention Open Crew being uninhabited, it’s because it may as well be called Empty Crew and everyone knows it’s awful and not fun that often.

Also people have friends to play with and LFG on XBox - a thriving community with tonnes of group search post at regular intervals.

Now,

YOU BE A GOOD FORUM CRIER AND GO BACK FROM WHENCE YOU CAME (and preferably never darken my cabin door again)
(Again, for clarification, a joke - I believe even forum criers have a place in modern society).

But seriously dude, next time don’t doom, gloom and scream murder without a coherent, valid argument or at the very least some sort of evidence other than ‘I think’ - numbers is what I’m interested in, anything else is simply not worth my, or anyone else’s, time.

Now as I believe I alluded to before, take the decapitated chicken head, stick it back on the body and take the metaphorical fingers out of the ears.

Good day and hopefully one day I am able to communicate with you in a more friendly way - writing this out was a bore and has made me even more irritable.

I meant no harm in this.

Bye

I can pull a quick 180 on my controller, I have the sensitivity up very high and barely move it when turning normally. Not difficult. Strafing is quite easy on both a controller or M&K, you just press a button or move the stick but it's in a different direction. Jumping is easy on both platforms too, though on a controller moving your fingers correctly can be a bit awkward, though not always. You do load into the game faster from the crew screen, but the major differences from the in-game teleportations don't change based on platform nearly as much as they do based on the situation.

But my evidence is frankly much better than yours, come back later when you got something, anything that isn’t a non-argument and then perhaps we can talk like adults. As it is I am debating with somebody running around like a headless chicken with their fingers in their ears.

Evidence? You provided nothing, meanwhile I did. You should read your own rely and apply it to yourself. If an investor saw what I posted and checked for themselves, do you think they'd put money on the game? Yeah right. It's not hard to notice when a game is dead. But keep on killing it off. While I'd love the idea of this game succeeding, which is why I try my best to contribute, even if it means going head to head with a bunch of dedicated fans that are happy with whatever the devs put out, I'm fine with accepting my losses of purchasing the game.

Time will tell and I wont be here to have the last laugh. But hopefully, truly I really hope so, that the devs think out of the box, and start finding ways to bring in a new community that wouldn't turn on itself. The community in this game is similar to other low population games, where veterans result to mob rule and turn on and try their best to get rid of anyone who doesn't agree with what the mob believes in. At the end of the day, a game only survives if people play it. As of right now, it aint looking too good. So go do you.

There's a big difference between the skill gap and the platform gap, however when watching or even experiencing only one side it isn't that obvious. Rare tested this extensively before launch, and it was actually quite even between the two, is both players were of equal skill. If one was more experienced, of course they'd win, but as of now it is uneven in the full picture because the PC community tends to be more competitive overall. This is not due to individual players, but more the bigger streamers and content creators who are about as competitive <s>(and toxic)</s> as you can be in this kind of game. However, they are not going anywhere anytime soon unless they, too, get annoyed at the game because they start to play it in an unintended way and leave it. It's not PC vs XBox, it's competitive vs casual, or perhaps 'average' instead of 'casual'.

It's really not. I've played on Xbox for 2 years now, but I did have a chance to try it on a computer for about a month. Even with way less experience on the mouse and keyboard, I was suddenly a much better player. You can pull a 180 in a nanosecond, aiming is just point and click, you can strafe and bunnyhop without getting some weird controls, you load faster, etcetera. It's night and day. The difference is also very apparent when a double gunner is on your ship, dropping you faster than you can turn around. For fun (because I'm salty) while playing the Arena, I like to try and guess whether it was a PC or Xbox player who killed me before I check. I've been wrong twice. The difference is huge.

The gap is there, however as of now without headshots the precision that the M&K gives doesn't mean as much. An experienced controller user can still hit the body of a pirate about as well as an experienced M&K user, and because of the lack of critical hit zones there is no real advantage gained or lost for either side due to the precision difference. The game was built like this for this reason, to make cross-platform interactions as even as possible. Headshots, as shown during Rare's testing of them pre-release, negate this effort. Plus, one-shotting someone from a distance like that isn't what Rare wants for the game, as it removes the chance to fight back should someone see you from a distance (why the double-gun exploit was removed as well). If someone sneaks up on you with a blunderbuss and kills you, you should have heard or seen them getting that close.

No, even without headshots, the gap is still very, very large.

I agree with adding headshots. I disagree with the idea of nerfing the blunderbuss and pistol. I think the pistol should also kill with one headshot, it is already hard to aim and if the eye of reach kills with one headshot then other guns should too.
