• A friend and I are working on a little machinima type video with SoT and i was curious if it was okay to use the game's music without getting flagged so long as we tag the composer/game and all that?

  • I know that with this big new anniversary update not many people have been thinking about this, but I think it is about time to have some new shanties. When I first began to play Sea of Thieves, My crew and I would love playing shanties to celebrate finishing a voyage, sinking a ship, finishing a skeleton fort, etc. After a while it got repetitive and we have naturally stopped using the instruments. We got excited when the Hungering Deep was released and a new shanty was added to the game, it was our new favorite shanty and we would play it all the time, until it got repetitive. To get to the point, it would be nice to have MULTIPLE new shanties to play and make greater use of the instruments you have added into the game since launch. Maybe, you could find away to make a shanty store at outposts for players to purchase different shanties as they increase their rank in different trading companies. There are creative ways to implement new shanties into the game. A lot of players, especially players that have been playing this game since launch, will appreciate it if you add some new shanties to the game. Thank you.

    P.S.
    Add the banjo

  • It be wonderful if a new arrangement of shanty's were added to liven up drunken brawls.

it also be convenient if you could assign shanty's to play so you wouldn't have to go through them all to get to your favorite.

It be wonderful if you could play the instrument yourself as in each button on the controller would be a key to the instrument for the Hurdy-Gurdy and accordion, for the drum each button would whistle a different tune and there'd also be a button for each individual time you want to hit the drum idea, this would add so much depth to the songs because they'd be your own and im sure players would love to spend time writing there own songs, it also be awesome if you could save the songs you've composed. The way you play the instrument manually would be like how you put bait on the fishing line you would have to push a button to do it and it would be labeled manual play. this idea could bring in a new faction where the music you play rises your rank, you could preform as a quest and have to play a peace of music and depending on how you play it it would increase your rank, if your playing is trash it wouldn't go up much go up much, but if you play it perfectly it would go up a good amount. there would be shanty's of varying difficulty so a easy song will give less of rank increase then a hard one. this idea would definitely need more shanty's to work.

Unlike other actions, you are fairly limited while standing at the wheel and have RT and LT free. RT could be used for whistling, letting you start or join in on a shanty being played by the crew. It wouldn't take much work due to the fact rare could use whistling code from the drum.

  • 'Hoy all!

I'm fairly new here, only been playing the game for the past few months, but I love it, and I thought I'd share somethin' I made with you today.

I'm going to a convention next week with a pirate theme, and I thought it'd be fun to bring a pirate costume and get an actual concertina (if I can fit all of that in my generally already over-packed luggage) to play some easily recognizable shanties around the space, but first I had to learn them. I found some sheet music by JoshMcMeow/Rogue Sea Dog (which he posted here: https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/30141/sea-of-thieves-sheet-music), but they were designed more for full accordion/piano and weren't as suitable for a li'l concertina, so I decided I'd transcribe my own versions. I referenced them to speed up my transcribing process, especially for the melodies, so, credits there, but I tried to more closely match the concertina solo versions in-game, and fixed up some of the chords that felt off to me.

I was considering holding off on posting these up until I had some videos of me playing them (both to have as examples AND so I get the first crack at 'em, ;P) but they sure ain't easy, and while I'm fairly musically inclined, I'm still a beginner at the concertina, and it's gonna be a while before I truly have these up to performance quality (the only one I'm even close to is Becalmed, and even that one still gets choppy halfway through), so I figured I'd release them early and give more experienced players their shot at it. If you use these to learn the songs and make any videos or anything, link back to this thread so other people can find the sheet music, too! :)
If I get good enough at any of them to make videos, or if I get any decent video from the convention that doesn't make me look like a fool, I'll post them up here!

These are all technically possible to play on English concertina (though not easily), save for a couple measures here and there where a note gets double-used, but it's not too hard to come up with ways to play around them. So, without further ado:
    Becalmed: https://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/601dff7badc3e8b1b85113eda7c9e09e50925185

(Piroshki is my other online alias.)

I'm planning to do Summon the Megaladon at some point, too, (probably not Ride of the Valkyries) but I knew I was already gonna struggle just getting these 3 ready in time for the con, so I didn't worry about it yet. I'll add it here whenever that gets done.

  • Hi,

This thread is for sharing your favorite pirate themed music with us.

I will start with a Swedish band I found this week called « Ye Banished Privateers ». They are making really cool pirate songs.

    Your turn now.

  • I think the flute would be a great addition to the musical roster in Sea of Thieves and would like to open a discussion on including the flute or other instruments.

The musical aspect of Sea of Thieves when voyaging the sea is its most brilliant atmospheric tool in my opinion, and I would love nothing more than to see this arsenal expanded!

Additionally (okay, there was more!) I second the feature suggestion to allow pirates to play their own notes on the instruments: https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/78576/playable-instruments

  • My brother was playing sailing around near Discovery Ridge working on an Athena when he called me into the room. He unplugged his headset and turned the TV sound up and I was met with the noise of a BANJO in the ambient sailing music...
Am I the only one hearing this?

  • Helllo everyone

    1. I suggest to put some mini games on Tavern or to the Ship like playing cards, Dice game or Brantifer.
    1. Some new Instrument like Violin or Banjo
  • Sorry if this has already been discussed, but. the killer whales journal being updated to merrick roll. i would get such a good laugh if the big mystery "gift" for the anniversary is the merrick roll as a shanty we can play

  • Dear Sea of Thieves development crew.
I've loved your game from the start. That said, having played for so long, I'd really love to be able to play more music.
Could you add more songs? I'd happily write a shanty for you. Or make an adaptation of an existing one! I just listened to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHvqBVby_io and danced along, just imagining how AWESOME this would be on sea of thieves with the instruments. =D
I'm a little scared to tag mods on this post, but I still hope they see it. I realise you've got other content you're working on, but its the small adds like this that make me feel appreciated as a member of the Sea of Thieves community, and to be honest, the mechanic of being able to play music with your crew and others was a nice touch that just made the game so much more fun.
Also... I noticed the banjo in the Pirate Legend cave... When are we gunnu be able to play that ourselves, huh? It's clearly already IN the game xD

    Anyways, Thanks for reading/listening ^-^

  • Bonsoir! Une question me tracasse depuis un certains temps, la musique de bosun bill, elle provient d'un film, ou d'une pub ou je ne sait quoi, avez vous la réponse?🤣

  • Hello there!

I was wondering if we are gonna get a release of the soundtrack somewhere. Iwould definitely want it as physical collection but i settle for digital release also :D

I know it's somewhat dificult to make a collection out of it, because there are many short melodies in the game, but i think there are also plenty full songs there so it's worth it.

Also guys in case you haven't, CHECK the awesome playlists on spotify. I'm actually very impressed of the quality and the variety of the playlists. Congrats to whoever made them!

  • I wanted to showcase a remixed version of We Sail Together track made by Hicksu. This was made for my True Pirate Legend videos.

  • I was working on some captures for another video, I had an Athena down for Milage, happened to come across Order of Souls Voyage and Shroud at the same time, it is probably the most frightening thing I have experienced in Sea of Thieves.

  • Here in Brazil, I'm part of a revival group about pirates. This group usually studies the ancient pirate culture (generally the golden age of piracy), organizes itself into crews with common goals and does various things.

We meet several times a year. Usually we take a boat and sail with those pirate clothes, generally we have enough music, drink, games and many things in these meetings. Anyone else here do something like that?

  • I absolutely love the game's current instrument tracks. But I would love to see more! Additionally, perhaps a better way to select the track when you have the instrument equipped. It would also be neat if the characters' dances adjusted to the tune of the music as well. It seems strange for the character to be dancing too upbeat during a slow tune.

    Thank you for the read!

  • Ahoy Mateys!

Instruments should be made to allow players using the 1,....8 buttons to play notes separately, and by using ctrl shift alft to switch between octaves, so players can create their own music bands.

There is a similar system in LOTRO, and it works like a charm, it's really suggested that you implement a system like this, it would create a hell of a lot fun.

I'm sure there are at least 8 buttons on an XBOX controller, in case your point is gonna be that, there you have it.

Left clicking it would start playing without any sound, but by pressing buttons 1-8 should give off sound according to the actual note, with modifier buttons changing octaves, and by adjusting press length, the actual note length could be modified too.

There should also be a possibility to use chat commands somethnig like "/play [number sequence]" to allow players who are not that musical to play premade songs copied and pasted from a topic in the forums.

And this takes me to my next point:
There should be a forum Topic, or Wikipedia page, where players can store and create strings that you can play in game in case you're bad at playing actual instruments (like I am).

It should be simple enough so anyone on an Xbox can play it just by reading it (including modifiers, like s3 meaning shift+3, c5 meaning ctrl+5, and a1 meaning alt+1) so they can use the corresponding modifier buttons to play the same note as someone on a PC would.

I'll just leave a video here showing off what I suggest so you can have a look at it.

I don't think implementing a couple of sounds and key mapping them to buttons is that hard to do, the question remains if you actually wanna spend resources on this project.

I hope we'll see it in the game at some point.

    Sail Well Mateys

  • Ahoy!
A little about me... I create Sea of Thieves music videos (many different editions of the shanties now) on YouTube, and thanks to the wonderful SoT community loving their sea shanties, my music videos now have over 1 million views & are the most watched music videos for the game! You guys rock!
That being said, all my previous editions of the songs are now put to shame, as I've created a year end version that is the pinnacle of all my previous ones. On top of that, I collaborated with Thomas Jonker, who was previously featured in Issue Four of the Pirate Times for his covers of the songs :) He plays the piano which is the lead in my latest version.
So, why is my latest edition the best one out there?
-It has 8 DIFFERENT instruments (10, if you include the whistling and tambourine from the drums)
-Has EVERY lead & EVERY back-up part on the 3 playable instruments, mashed into one track for the fullest sound
-I added the brand new Festive version of the songs that Rare just released to us, with previously unheard/unseen instruments not found in-game yet
-Thomas Jonker plays lead on piano

The end outcome? The richest & fullest sounding version of the shanties you'll have ever heard! :D

If you love the music from Sea of Thieves like I do, then please do give this a listen!

    (This is just BOSUN BILL)

Thank you in advance to any of you that take the time to check this out!

Happy holidays, & cheers from the North!

  • Hi ! I recently bought SOT and I really enjoy this game. I love the way the players interract with each other, especially when they play music together. And I have a suggestion about that. First, I think it would be great to be able to chose the music we play.

Secondly, I think more songs would be really appreciated by the community. References to others pirates universes would be nice. One Piece songs for example (arrangement using the instruments of the game of course).

You could also add jukeboxes or things like that instead and we could choose different songs by using it.

I also think more instruments would be great. to have 4 instruments would be great since we can be 4 in a single crew.

Whistling as its own instrument. Simples.

  • The mermaids watch from neath the waves

The kraken creeps out in the deeps

The sea has much to fear

Through merchant trade or fortress raid

    We fill our hungry hold

For souls in skulls we patch our hulls

    And dig up hoarder’s gold

For legends’ sake we make our stake

    To these forgotten lands

When slain by sword we all must board

  • I'm just about curious and definitely wacky enough to do this.
I've got another topic I want to cover, but am not sure if/when I'll manage.

  • I'm sure everyone enjoys this shanty as much as I do, and I often have it on repeat at times. Once you become a pirate legend, you're able to play this shanty to open the hideout. However, the shanty doesn't sound like the actual full song, like most of the other SoT shanties.

Might a future update change the shanty to be played in its entirety rather than a loop, except for a few medleys? Especially since the intro to the song has a really nice buildup, and you can clearly hear all of the in-game instruments being used (even the to be released fiddle).

  • When you start up the game, a cutscene plays that introduces you to the sea of thieves. During this cutscene, a long shanty plays. This shanty is quite good and would fit right into the list of playable shanties.

  • One of my favorite things about this game is playing the instruments, my crew refers to me literally as the bard of the crew. Even though I love the songs you can play on them now I find myself wanting more songs, and maybe a song selection menu so I can always play my favorite tunes. Another thing is can we get a fiddle in the game, there was one showcased in the trailer and I think it would add some higher pitched string sounds to songs for a lighter music tone. Please Rare make it happen.
