Fix the sword combat, worst sword combat in any game I have played

@nofears-fun Play with me sometime then! In all likelihood, they're not going through the objects in question, but around them. Many of the manuevers, including the advanced charge (during the hold), sword dodge, and running slash, can be performed in any direction, easily circumventing objects. In addition, many players don't actually realize the reach a sword has - it can easily hit you through a map table with a slash for example, or with a proper charge, you can leap from the back of the galleon all of the way to the front of the galleon while dodging every object in between with the right angle.

@nofears-fun I'm native to Florida, so that would be Eastern. 😉

I'm free all day today (though PUBG's got a new snow map releasing today that I want to try, so that may occupy a part of it).

I wouldn't say it needs so much a "fix", rather that it could benefit from some improvements.

@galactic-geek I will say, I don't get much of a chance to practice as when I am with my normal crew, I am the one on the helm, repairing the ship, helping with cannons if I can and adjusting the sails. So usually, the only time I get that practice is when someone boards our ship, and usually the boarders are the ones that know how to end the battle quickly. LOL

Likewise - I too am mostly at the helm, giving the orders, and helping out whenever and wherever I can. I'm not lazy either - I leave the wheel often, and won't even ask to raise sails and lose speed just so I can see (I take the 3 seconds it takes to actually look, or I ask my crew).

I practice on trees and skeletons while looking for loot. If you're getting boarded, then your crew's already making mistakes and/or being outplayed. Even in an alliance, that's my 1 rule - you're not allowed on my ship without permission.

@oxonamelessoxo Since you started this thread, what do you think of all the advice I've given? You have yet to respond to it, and I'm curious to see if you learned a few things from it.

Advice aside, what would you change about the combat, if you could, and why?

Nope, on an XB1X with 4K HDR, and with a standard Xbox controller and terrible Internet too (6mbps download / 1mbps upload), and I do just fine (double-gunning exploit aside, of course). Why? 🤔

@nofears-fun I assume you're playing on a sloop or brig then? Otherwise, you should have a 4th if you're on a galleon...

My advice? Don't even try to board. Use your cannons, sailing, and especially your CCBs to sink them first while keeping your own boat afloat. Then when they're sunk, pick them off out of the water. Easy! 😋

Nope! Standard controller, as I've already said. Try reading the BOTTOM of my guide (below the line) to understand what those letters mean.

@oxonamelessoxo Well, as I've already said, I've met a lot of PLs who don't actually know everything. I've been playing SoT since the closed alpha and am still learning new things. I update my guide from time to time as a result, so be sure to give it another look every once in a while. 👍

@oxonamelessoxo It's barely been a day! You can't magically improve in that short amount of time. I'm guessing you didn't even try many of the things in my guide. Give yourself more time - you get out what you put in (and then some), ya know.

The worst pirates are always the ones who think they don't need it or that don't even realize that what they're doing could be wrong or done in a better way. One should always be ready to listen to, and take into consideration, any advice given. That's how we learn and improve - by sharing ideas and information. However, that both starts and ends with you. After all, you're the one who brought this up in a public forum. Don't like what you might hear? Then perhaps you should've complained somewhere else with less feedback, or at least put more thought (and less emotion) into your argument...

@oxonamelessoxo Feedback is fine, but it needs to be constructive in nature to have any value. I chose to share my knowledge with you, because based upon your posts, you seem very upset and ignorant (that's not an insult, BTW - just an observation). Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

I also shared it for others who might be, IMO, wrongfully influenced by your initial post - knowledge is power, ignorance is not bliss, and the world doesn't revolve around you.

It's not a first-person shooter... Yes, it's first-person, but it's not a shooter - it's an open-world sandbox-style game. That ignorant statement actually explains a lot regarding your erroneous views.
