I can't find Merrick!

  • Ahoy everyone!

I haven't do the Hungering Deep mission yet. Two days ago I tried to find Merrick on the Shark Bait Cove in the place where he should be, but there's nobody there. Have I do something before looking for him? I would like to get the Drum of Merrick.

    Please, help me.

    Thanks in advance, Default1710.

  • Merrick is gone, Matey! The event ended. You should be able to buy a pretty sweet drum at an outpost though if there isn't one in your inventory.

  • @default1710 Ahoy matey!

The Hungering Deep quest is now over - Merrick has left the game and the Hungering One has been sent to the depths and mini Megs are now an emergent threat in the world.

Keep yer eyes out in the tavern and here on the forum for future events.

  • @ReptarTheory @Musicmee Thanks for your replies. I imagined that and I'm so sad :(.

    Thanks again, Default1710.

  • @musicmee That not be the hungering one on those seas matey, that be her brood o' terrible offspring out to wreak havoc on Sloop and Galleon alike!
She be off licking her wounds until Rare decide she be needed again fer' future menacing on the waves!

  • I still think that they should keep the content that they add in events and leave the npcs like Merrick in the game so people can do the events for the entire length of the game.

It adds content permently and give more reason for new people to join and stuff for them to do.

Right now, people may buy the game.. and basically have the same experience all of us have had when we started out and ongoing.

In reality though, they purchased the game and then have less content then we have had. The longer this goes on.. the bigger and bigger this gap gets.

I like the spaced out content.. it gets people to return frequently and keeps the game alive. But that is because there is MORE stuff for us to play. It makes the value we paid for.. worth it.

Someone paying $60 for the game later this week.. doesn't have the Hungering Deep.. doesn't have skeleton thrones... or the ability to earn those 100dubs. Or heck, someone that has taken a break that already paid for the game, may want to come back because his friends picked up the game.. but he missed out on those same things.

You create new content.. you don't need it to be time limited to attract people into the game.. you just have to announce that it is there. Those that eat up content right away is going to do it in the first couple days. They paid for it.

What are you going to tell the people that haven't bought the game yet because it lacks content? This path we are going down isn't adding content.

It isn't ADDING stuff to do.. its just constantly rotating 1 of the things we can do on a (bi)weekly basis. It doesn't solve the biggest complaint about the game.. and all the effort and work Rare is doing is only helping out those that have purchased the game already and playing consistantly.. not attracting new people and creating revenue.

  • @puck269 I fully share your thinking. I think that everything you said is true. Absolutely you are right. To be onest, when I look at some videos about Sea Of Thieves, there are lot's of contents that I can't have because the event about them is just finished. This game is so beautiful, but you have to play everytime in order to don't miss some events. I hope the developers will keep the new contents also for the new players, like me for example.

  • @default1710 Leave in all Story and Lore. New objects earned should be the base versions, if they are the first of their type. 6 months from now people will buy the game, see sharks and go cool...without any idea they were not in game from start, or anything. It was just a very poor decision, to try and play to the exclusives crowd.

  • @hoppentosse That is true.. it does add something unique to those that participated and did the event.

But it also adds unneeded stress to those that want to do the event, but have difficulty finding someone to do it within two weeks.

Like the OP for example. He wants to do the Hungering Deep. He can't. The work the devs did in putting the journals out.. writing Merrick's story and dialog.. coding the fight and attracting Megan... All of that is time (and money) wasted. You could have gotten the same result (keeping players engaged in the game) by not making it time limited, but also created content to attract MORE people to the game thus INCREASING profit.

Rare doesn't have to stress out the playerbase that wants the cosmetics, but for some reason either only had 1 or 2 nights a week to try it.. but spent 4hrs a night searching for another crew to no luck.

Now, I haven't experienced the issue.. But I'm not insensitive to those that HAVE had the issue.

Everyone has a harder time each day passes to find someone willing to do the event. The longer it goes from day one, the harder it is to DO the event with multiple crews.

Have you ever played an old MMO and tried to find people to do old raids with? I played FF11 and once had a Linkshell almost entirely focused toward new ppl to playing the game and doing the old legacy content. It was a great time and was fun to do the old stuff. It was worthless in power, but the experience was still there and added a lot of diversity into the game. There was a lot of old timers that joined too.. just because they enjoyed helping redo content for those that wanted to experience it.

So, isn't there still some reward to those that participated in the event when it happened? They had an easier time. But it doesn't mean the person that happens to find someone willing to go out and spend an entire boat's resources to kill the shark didn't earn the cosmetics.
