First of all, I want to thank Rare for finally increasing the FOV to 110 – it’s a great step forward and definitely improves the overall feel of the game. But at the same time, I think going even further and raising the cap to 120 would be the best move.
Here’s why:
• More awareness in PvP: In combat, especially in Hourglass fights, split-second reactions matter. A wider FOV lets you see more of your surroundings – whether someone is boarding or sneaking up from behind. Even a few extra degrees of vision can mean the difference between winning and losing.
• Modern standard: Most modern games offer FOV settings up to 120 or more. Players coming from games like Apex, Warzone, or Valorant are used to that. Keeping Sea of Thieves capped at 110 can feel limiting, especially for pc players who expect more flexibility.
• Optional setting, no downside: A higher FOV would be completely optional. Players who don’t want it wouldn’t have to use it. But for those who do – the option would be there. It’s a personal preference setting that doesn’t affect others.
• Series X/S can handle it: Current-gen consoles are powerful enough to handle FOV 120. And on pc, players already know that the game could support it. So this isn’t really a technical limitation – it feels more like an artificial one.
• Community has asked for this for years: Honestly, it’s kind of funny how many of my past posts about increasing FOV were blocked or downvoted with the usual “Rare will never increase FOV” argument. And now that you did, it proves that the community had a point all along. So why stop at 110 when 120 would finally satisfy everyone?
