Season 8 Hourglass

  • I been playing Sea of Thieves for a long time and I am really exited and happy with updates, fixes and event which have happened in Sea of Thieves.
Season 8 is one of my favourite seasons. I really enjoying Hourglass Fights and New Golden Sands Outpost. However, the problem is that it's is very hard to reach my goal (Get Skeleton Curse). Of course it must be that way, otherwise it wouldn't be such fun to achieve it. However, most of the people who have it told me that they being playing for 8 days straight or more.
As a person who can't play 8+ days in the row or spend hours farming it I propose to make few changes/ add few alternatives for advancing in Hourglass.
First, I propose to add recommendation letters. They will work same way as recommendation letters for other fractions. You can buy one-two at beginning of new season and at the end. Each one will give you 1 level at chosen hourglass fraction.
Second, I propose to do Twitch drops. There will be a group of streamers who will represent Servants Of Flame and another group who will represent Guardians of Fortune. You will need to choose which one you want to watch and you will need to watch them for 2 hours to get 10 lvl at chosen Hourglass fraction (You can watch only one group, therefore chose wisely). Such twitch drops will be available once in 2 seasons ( once in 6 months).
Third, I propose to give renowns for selling emissary flags of opposite fraction. It will make Hourglass fractions more intense. Tier I emissary flag will give 5% of renown of Hourglass level, Tier II - 10%, Tier III - 20%, Tier IV - 25%, Tier V - 40%.
Forth, last one, I propose to add Alliance Hourglass fights, like 2 sloops against 2 sloops; 2 brig against 2 brig; 2 galleons against 2 galleons. Such fights have standard area of fight, but they will give double renown for victory and loss.
That's it. If you have any comments, recommendation or any changes you want to add to this topic or remove then leave your comments below. Otherwise, I wish you to have a nice day or night and I will see you on the seas.

    With Best Regards

  • I like some of your ideas!

I think the idea of having multiple ships fighting each other sounds great! 2 ships vs 2 ships sounds like a lot of fun and chaos! They would probably always have to spawn on a new server, but I think it sounds like a great time for some epic battles.

I think one reason they might not want to decrease the time needed to get the curses is that they need a good number of people playing the mode for it to be successful. If they decrease the amount of "effort" needed to gain the curses at level 100-110 (the ones most people are probably going for), then very shortly the number of people in the mode will decrease to the point that wait times for certain regions will be horrible and people will complain/leave for other games.

I do think that it would be nice to add the "Recommendation Letters" to the 2 factions, like they did to all the other factions. I see no reason not to, however it should stick on the same "schedule" (I think the schedule is like 1 per month, but they don't do a great job of updating it regularly).

Twitch drops I believe should stick to cosmetics. I think your idea is very interesting, however 10 levels for watching people on Twitch seems like a bit much.

As for the selling emissary flags of opposing factions...I'm pretty neutral on. Sure, why not?

  • @maximusarael020 Thank you for your comment. You have a good points. Of course my proposals need some changes. I wrote them based on my experience. However, I really hope that some of my proposals will be at least considered.

  • @jj-h816 Hey look, a new name looking for more allegiance! Tell me again how it's the same five people asking for it.

And we're just asking for more when we lose, he's asking for it without even playing hourglass!

  • @lordqulex I didn't get your comment, can you specify. Thank you.

In short, you're joining a conversation deep, deep, deep into it.

Many players have come to this forum asking for more allegiance and more ways to earn allegiance because the grind is absolutely unfulfilling and unreasonable. There are other topics with dozens of pages and hundreds of posts discussing allegiance gain. JJH816 and I have been hotly debating what should earn allegiance, and what needs to earn more allegiance, so that the game mode is more accessible and enjoyable to average and casual pirates. My response was targeting a comment he made in a different topic that you may not have read.

  • @lordqulex I see. Thank you.

  • Hello everyone, just want to add that it would be nice if renowns also will be given for cashing-in captain logbooks of opposite fraction.

    • Noteworthy Captain Logbook will bring 10% of renown of current level.
    • Accomplished Captain Logbook - 45% of renown.
    • Remarkable Captain Logbook - 85% of renown.
    • Extraordinary Captain Logbook - 125% of renown.
  • I think they did a great job with the hourglass pvp and adding a nice reward for hitting lvl 100! I don’t however think they should make it easier I mean already there are people that will get it by simply sinking their ship by joining other and not fighting. I lost interest because every ship I encountered before season 8 just ran for hours anyway. I also don’t believe everything should be accessible by everyone that would make everything seem like a participation trophy which are dumb in their own right and the would be no reason to go for them.

Everything is a participation trophy, this is a game. There is no contemporary game that doesn't reward both sides, so the idea that the curses are anything but a demonstration of time commitment is laughable. But what we're saying is the time commitment is unreasonable for this reward.

Running is not an efficient way to get allegiance, so it can be concluded that runners are trolls. You're going to get trolls in every game, this is just the flavor HG has.

Dice rollers and invite peddlers are the symptom of a miserable grind, not the disease. If the game mode were more fun or more accessible to the wider SoT player base, you wouldn't see this behavior. You see this behavior because the curses are widely popular but hourglass is not. Once they get the curses you will not see them anymore.

  • @deadshadow3s a dit dans Season 8 Hourglass :

I don't think you have the curses already ?

What I see : People who don't have them unlocked yet are usually gatekeeping them.
People who farmed these just know the pain and don't care, they're usually vocal about making this easier.

Maybe before posting anything about HG rewards, people should also post what level they are in allegiance. (and read other threads too)

  • @lordqulex I have never personally gone after anything once in this game. I played because it was fun. I switched to only playing Arena with my Gally crew cuz it was fun but, when TDM became the meta, we played less. When Arena left, so did we.

We are back and play regularly, I havent in a week or two because the TDM meta is so distracting from the actual incredible gameplay of naval that, I think I make be done. I wish there was another game out there like this without the tdm bunny hopping meta but, there isnt.

My only point is, some of us do play because its fun. Im sure there are more like me who dont play as much because the meta is currently trash.

  • @jolly-ol-yep I have read few. But to be honest they weren't nice. Instead of proposing to add few changes like I did in this topic, they usually about how hard it is and radical changes. I personally think that Houglass is amaizing. It brought back that feeling of a thrill of a fight after the Arena closed. I really missed that fights, even through I were lvl 10 and played only few times. In Houglass I am lvl 16 (almost 17) in Servants Of The Flames. I really like Houglass, but I don't have such privilege to spend hours farming renowns. Therefore I proposed several ways how to get renowns, which will help me and other pirates who don't have much time for seas and have a lot of duties/work on the land. I tried to think and write about changes which will help, but also won't discourage pirates from doing Hourglass. After few days, I can see that Twitch drops was a bad idea, how one gentleman said before:"Leave it for the cosmetics". The best idea is to reward players for selling/cashing in emissary flags and Captain's logbooks, since it will reward pirates for winning the deadly fights. However, it will only profit pirates who are more proficient with tools they are given. For Pirates, who are not so proficient or only learning about such tools, Alliance fight are the best. By fighting 2 ships vs 2 ships they will learn more about them and will be more prepared for the solo battles, plus they will recieve double rewards for victory and loss. If 2 vs 2 is too much, then 1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1, like in arena. It will take more time, but it will worth it. Recommendation letters is a great idea, it will help all pirates no matter which level they are at and how proficient they are. I don't think it is a bad idea and it definitely will improve the opinion of Houglass, encourage more pirates to play. If yo don't like to have a 100% chance of buying them from Larinna at the beginning and end of the season, then check this topic:"The Glorious Sea Dog Tavern Update". It offer new ways, maybe better ways for such idea. If you have any comments for this leave your replies below. Otherwise, I wish you to have a nice day and I will see you on the seas.

  • @deadshadow3s I see your point and I understand it. But it is not about being easier. It is about being more accessible for others and more interesting for all of us. I agree that Twitch Drops were a bad idea. However, everything else is set to promote such function in the game, encourage pirates to participate and support pirates who can't sail the seas often. I think it would be nice to have such changes in the game.

  • @lordqulex I am planning to stay after achieving the curses. I don't see a reason why not? It is challenging and very fun.
