Now with arena around the corner will we see sea of thives become an esport?
Sea of thieves esport?
Imho the game is in no way a pvp centric or focussed game.
The PvP is there to create tension and possibilities to fight each other in sense of having the freedom to be the Pirate you like today.
Recently we got an influx of "hardcore" pvp gamers.
I dont want to generalize, but i am talking about people who get fun out of spoiling some others game, insult them and feel superior aka "pwned".
This is contrary to the way i pvp if i pvp as an attacker.
I stay a polite player, i maybe show mercy and others would say i'm weak, but i say i'm an empathic player, polite but my Pirate is for sure a dread one.
But i take care for the loosers, i dont want them to have a bad experience at all, i want them to come back having fun.
A year ago i lost some battles that were fun, because the people were doing fun, didnt take it serious, in the end weren't toxic or disrespectfull and they maybe even didn't care for my low level loot.
These days are gone, these sort of players is very rare.SoT Combat is in no way eSport ready, the discussions and recent changes alone show that. I dont want Rare developing the game in this hardcore gamer direction, i dont want them to have a game what is about serious competition over fun.
I dont want it to be a NBA endgame, but shoot hoops in the yard.
I want to play with and versus players who play for fun, don't exagerate about gaming in all ways you can think off, from time spent to exploit everything.
To me tapping a chest or refusing a journey, because it's the more difficult islands to search for stuff or a "bad route" is exploiting in the origin sense of the word, not true for what it stands for when really "abusing" bugs, but optimizing you gaming to the max. The min maxing fraction.
Imho this is refusing to play the game like it is intended, but working it off efficently to be proud of oneselfs "effort". To me this is a questionable approach playing games.eSports are about this, because they are serious competitions and it is about real money for organizations, players...etc...
If SoT is going to be an eSport game, i'm sure i'm out relatively quick.
I want to play a game mainly for fun, relaxation and a laughter.
I dont want to game a system for my ePeen, proudness of the effort i put in and other serious feelings.
There is recently less sportsmanship, but more toxicity coming from pvp.@bugaboo-bill said in Sea of thieves esport?:

Putting all PvP players in the same boat not cool, for one. 2. There has always been toxic PvPers and no they are not actual PvPers they are griefers. What you are talking about, are griefers. People who sink you and call you "trash" and stuff? Griefers, not PvPers. 3rd. What's with "spoiling other people's fun" part? If I choose to PvP and sink your ship and take your loot. I am playing the game the way the devs intended me to play. They want some crews to be hostile. I'm not "spoiling your fun" if I sink you. If you count losing "spoiling your fun" then yeah I guess I did but it's not like that's my goal. My goal when I see a ship is to win. Period. I don't care about you, or your feelings, or if you were minding your own business; I am throwing down a gauntlet and you have to accept my challenge and defend your ship or die trying!
Ahoy maties!
