    Athena's Fortune Contest

    To celebrate the launch of our lore-expanding novel Athena’s Fortune, in true Sea of Thieves spirit, we wanted to squeeze in a cheeky contest. We know that your pirates and their crews have a tale or two to tell from adventures out on the seas, so now’s your chance to tell them!

    What we're asking for
    From January 28th to February 4th, we want you to submit Sea of Thieves fan art!

    Why are we looking for fan art, we hear you ask? Well, we're aiming to put together a very special physical book comprised of short stories (all non-canon of course) that tell tales of our community’s time at sea – and a community-led book wouldn't be complete without some awesome artwork, right? Yes, your fan art could feature in a Sea of Thieves book that we're calling… Mariners’ Myths!

    We’ve already selected the short stories but are re-opening the contest for fan art entries for an additional week!

    We have quite the bounty up for grabs in this competition. The winning artist will take home the same haul, with their art featured on the front cover of Mariners’ Myths. Not bad, eh?

    The Rules
    Members of the Sea of Thieves team will be judging your written and artistic submissions based on the following criteria: Creativity and Originality.

    There are a few rules you must stick to for this competition:
    Submission must be family-friendly.

    1. Submission must be family-friendly.
      Your art submissions should also be free from bad language and sexual content.

    2. Submissions must have been created by you.
      Please only submit pieces of work that you yourself have created.

    The Prizes
    There will be one main prize winner from the fan art submission pool. This main prize includes the Athena's Fortune novel signed by Chris Allcock, a Sea of Thieves Limited Edition Controller, 20 Bilge Rat Doubloons, your artwork included in Mariners’ Myths and a copy for yourself.

    There will be two runner-up prize winners from the fan art submission pool. This runner-up prize includes the Athena's Fortune novel signed by Chris Allcock, 10 Bilge Rat Doubloons and a copy of Mariners’ Myths.

    How to Enter
    Fan art: Tweet your submission to us on Twitter, post it on Instagram or leave it on our Facebook wall. Include the hashtag #AthenasFortuneContest to ensure we see it.

    The winners for the short story contest have already been selected. We will contact winners and runners-up on February 8th and announce winners of both short stories and fan art on our social channels and website on February 13th.

    This extension of the fan art contest opens at 00:01 GMT on January 28th 2019 and closes at 23:59 GMT on February 4th 2019 (the “Entry Period”). Entries received outside of the Entry Period will not be considered. Click here for full Terms & Conditions.

If writing isn't your thing, fear not, you can still get involved as we're also inviting all the artists out there to take part!

      Please only submit pieces of work that you yourself have created.

    The Prizes

    There will be three main prize winners from the fan fiction submission pool. Each main prize includes the Athena's Fortune novel signed by Chris Allcock, a Sea of Thieves Limited Edition Controller, 20 Bilge Rat Doubloons, your work included in Mariners’ Myths and a copy for yourself.

    A mysterious fog has come to the Sea of Thieves with our latest free content update: Shrouded Spoils! But that's not all this update brings with it. As well as navigating this new emergent threat, you and your crew will have to face off against feistier Krakens, fearsome new Megalodons unleashed in the wake of The Hungering One, six freshly infested Skeleton Forts and, of course, you'll need to be on the lookout for roaming Skeleton Ships.

    But with new dangers come new rewards! Magic-infused gemstones, extended ship customisation and spoils to be won in Kraken and Megalodon battles.

    We don't know about you, but to us this sounds like the perfect opportunity to get out there and create some incredible Sea of Thieves content. Sound good? Excellent!

    Shrouded Spoils Creator Contest

    From December 5th 2018 to January 2nd 2019, we want to see your best Shrouded Spoils-related content!

    The winning entries will uncover a treasure trove of loot. Our top two picks will receive a Sea of Thieves Limited Edition Controller, Shrouded Spoils T-shirt, 30 Bilge Rat Doubloons and an Ebon Flintlock Pistol for your pirate!

    Three runners-up will receive a Shrouded Spoils T-shirt, Sea of Thieves Journal, 15 Bilge Rat Doubloons and an Ebon Flintlock Pistol!

    We'll be looking for submissions in the following categories:

    • Best Shrouded Spoils Video - We want to see your best video clips from Shrouded Spoils! With the treacherous fog rolling into the Sea of Thieves, we’d love to see familiar islands in a new light or unexpected encounters in the fog. We’re also keen to see crews taking on newly populated Skeleton Forts or previously unseen Megalodons for their rich rewards.
    • Best Shrouded Spoils Fan Creation - Has Shrouded Spoils inspired you to get creative? Perhaps the array of Megalodon patterning has made you feel like breaking out the paints, or you’d like to recreate some of the new spoils such as the Mermaid Statue Gems or super new Stronghold Gunpowder Barrel? Don’t keep your talents hidden under a shroud!

    The Rules

    Members of the Sea of Thieves team will be judging your submissions based on the following criteria: Creativity and Originality.

    If you've taken part in any of our other Creator Contests, you'll be aware that there are some rules. If this is your first time then please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the following:

    1. Keep your videos and fan creations family-friendly.
      Please keep your entries free from bad language and inappropriate content.
    2. Keep an eye on video length.
      Please keep your video submissions to 10 minutes or under.
    3. Consider full crew participation.
      We actively encourage you to get your crew involved in this! However, only the account that submits the content will be eligible for the prize.
    4. Content must have been created by you.
      Please do not submit clips or creations that another pirate has made. The content you submit must be your own.

    The Prizes

    One winner will be selected from the Fan Creation submissions and one winner will be selected from the Video submissions for a total of TWO overall winners. They will each receive a Sea of Thieves Limited Edition Controller, Shrouded Spoils T-shirt, 30 Bilge Rat Doubloons and the Ebon Flintlock Pistol.

    Three runners-up will be selected from all Fan Creation submissions and Video submissions for a total of THREE runners-up. They will each receive a Shrouded Spoils T-shirt, Sea of Thieves Journal, 15 Bilge Rat Doubloons and the Ebon Flintlock Pistol.

    Festival of the Damned has arrived so we're lighting the beacon and calling all our creative pirates to action! Seeing all the explosive content you lot created for our Forsaken Challenge was a blast, but let's turn our attention to something a little more spooky. So grab your grog, ready your lantern and allow me to introduce our Festival of the Damned Creator Contest.

    From November 2nd to 14th, we want to see your best Festival of the Damned related content!

    The winning submission will receive a bounty of Sea of Thieves merchandise! This includes a money can't buy prize in the form of a Sea of Thieves display cabinet! You'll also win the goodies to stock this cabinet which are a Sea of Thieves Limited Edition Controller, Sea of Thieves Controller Stand, Seagate Game Drive for Xbox - Sea of Thieves Special Edition, 30 Bilge Rat Doubloons and a Spinal Figurehead for your ship!

    While our runners-up will receive a Sea of Thieves Reaper's Glow T-Shirt, 15 Bilge Rat Doubloons and a Spinal Figurehead.

    We'll be looking for submissions in the following categories:

    • Best Festival of the Damned Video - This may be a horror movie style voyage with jump scares, a creepy homage to the likes of Frankenstein, a party video showing your glorious coloured lanterns and plenty of revelry, or simply surprise us with something spooky!
    • Best Festival of the Damned Fan Creation - Did you put together a Sea of Thieves Halloween costume? This is the perfect chance to show it off! Festival of the Damned brought with it the awesome addition of facepaint so if you and your crew recreated that in the real world, show us. If that's not your thing, we're keen to see all your awesome creations from fan art, 3D Models, cakes and spooky story. As long as it's Festival of the Damned themed we want to see it!

    As always, members of the Sea of Thieves team will be judging your submissions based on the following criteria: Creativity, Originality and Hilarity.

    We had such an amazing response to our recent Shark Week Challenge that we've decided we want to see more! With Cursed Sails well and truly underway, now is the perfect time for our creative community to jump into action and once again showcase their talent!

    Cursed Sails Challenge

    From August 15th to 21st, we want you to submit your Cursed Sails-related content to us. Just like with our Shark Week Challenge, we’re announcing our competition a little bit early to give you an extra day to plan.

    Of course, this wouldn't be a challenge without some treasure, which is why our favourite submissions will be rewarded with a a very stylish Cursed Sails Foil T-Shirt, an exclusive Sea of Thieves Journal and 40 Bilge Rat Doubloons for you to spend on some lovely in-game cosmetics. Not bad, right?

    We'll be selecting three of our favourite submissions from each of the following categories:

    • Best Cursed Sails Screenshot - As a community, you've proven without a doubt that you can take some incredible #SoTShots! We love seeing them and Cursed Sails has many opportunities for you to flex your creative muscles and take some breathtaking screenshots.
    • Best Cursed Sails Video - Naval Warfare documentary but set on the Sea of Thieves? We'd like to see that. Soloing waves of skeleton ships in a Sloop? We'd love to see that too. Really, we just want to see how creative you can get with video!
    • Best Cursed Sails Fan Art - Our last challenge was limited to video and photo content, but the artists among you wanted to get involved too and we've heard your feedback! Send us images of your 3D models, paintings and sketches. Show us what you've got!

    The Rules

    We'll be judging your submissions based on the following criteria: Creativity, Originality, Hilarity, Bravery and things that make us go "Oh wow".

    As always, there are a few rules you must stick to:

    Do you love sharks, sailing on the Sea of Thieves and creating content? You do? Fantastic! With Shark Week just over the horizon, we thought now would be the perfect time to celebrate our fearsome friends of the ocean with a special contest!

    From July 23rd to 29th, we’re looking for creative pirates to submit their shark-related content to us. We’re announcing our competition early to give you lovelies a little extra time to get the creative juices flowing.

    There's a selection of treasure up for grabs for the lucky winners and runners-up. You'll have a chance to plunder an exclusive Sea of Thieves Limited Edition Xbox Wireless Controller and a Hungering Deep Unisex T-Shirt - and not ones to miss an occasion, the Bilge Rats have also kindly given us some of their Doubloons to use as rewards in the festivities.

    Ordinarily they'd only award you their highly sought-after currency for taking part in Bilge Rat Adventures. However, they're always happy to make a charitable donation for a special occasion such as this, and with Cursed Sails just around the corner you may be thankful for some extra Doubloons in your pocket!

    Here are the categories, judging criteria, rules and prize breakdown. We'll be selecting one winner and two runners-up from the following categories:

    • Best Shark Shot - This could be something as simple as a fantastically framed shot of you and your crew getting up close and personal with a Megalodon, or something more elaborate. Be creative!
    • Best Shark Mockumentary - We're thinking David Attenborough meets The Office, but with sharks!
    • Best "See it To Believe It" Moment - Anything can happen out on the Sea of Thieves, and we want to see things that others just simply wouldn't believe. We'll need video or screenshot evidence of these occurrences!

    The Rules

    We're going to be judging your submissions based on the following criteria: Creativity, Originality, Hilarity and Bravery!

    And like any good contest, there are a few rules you must adhere to:

    1. Keep your videos and screenshots family-friendly - We know pirates can have a way with words in an extreme situation like trying to get a selfie with a shark, but keep the naughty language in your videos to a minimum.
    2. Keep an eye on video length. While we love watching hour-long voyages, our crew will have a boatload of submission to go through. Please keep your video submission to 10 minutes or under.
    3. Consider full crew participation. We actively encourage you to get your crew involved in this challenge - however, only the account that submits the content will be eligible for the prize!
    4. Content must have been created by you. Exactly what it says on the tin. Please don't submit clips or screenshots that another pirate has made. The content you submit must be your own!

    The Prizes

    1st Place: Sea of Thieves Limited Edition Xbox Wireless Controller, The Hungering Deep Unisex T-Shirt) and 40 Bilge Rat Doubloons.

    Ahoy!

    Not a day goes by here at Rare where I don’t hear someone playing Sea of Thieves shout, “that should be an achievement!”.

    This is a sentiment shared by our community, even just a cursory glance at these forums offer a wealth of threads detailing cool stories that have actually happened during our Technical Alpha, or general ideas around what would make for a great achievement in the future. This gave us an idea; what if we invited YOU the community to join us in the Closed Beta and, with your best thinking hooks on, help us create a new achievement!

    When the Closed Beta kicks off TODAY, the 24th of January at 12pm GMT, we’ll be opening a forum thread (THIS ONE!) to gather up all your best ideas. When Closed Beta ends on Wednesday the 31st of January, we’ll then close this forum thread, and lock ourselves in the Brig until we’ve picked our 5 favourite achievement ideas. Once we’ve gathered those top 5, hopefully someone will let us out of the Brig and we can pass the list back to the community to vote on your favourite!

    Now onto the rewards! The winning achievement idea will become a fully realised Sea of Thieves achievement in the future, PLUS the winner will have their name written into our credits parchment. As if that wasn’t enough, the winner will also receive a signed piece of artwork from the whole team, and a wealth of extra Sea of Thieves booty!
