I'd love to capture this meg I killed but the items gone

I'm doing the new mission where you hunt megs to summon the shrouded ghost. But then me oh my I died, and now the item to collect the essence is gone! Anyone else dealing with this? (This is the second part mission I did, I captured the first meg just fine)
