Official Sea of Thieves Developer Update: January 23rd 2019

Thanks for the update @ENTICED-MALICE! For those that haven't had the chance to watch the video here's a quick break down of what's inside!

Short Summary:

• Rare has seen continued growth since Shrouded Spoils. There was a burst of growth in December and has continued to carry momentum through January
• A reminder that our next game update will be on February 6th. This update includes a lot of tweaks and balancing updates revolving around weapons
• Rare will be appearing on Inside Xbox on February 5th to talk about the new patch, what's going on across Rare as a whole, and to discuss a bit of what's to come for Sea of Thieves in 2019
• Reminder that we'll have to redownload and install the game when the February 6th update drops

While not a huge update this week still an important one none the less. The Feb 6th update seems like it's going to be an important combat update, coincidence that it drops before The Arena? I think not!

I'm also looking forward to seeing what's to come during the Inside Xbox. 2019 looks to be bright for Sea of Thieves!

And yeah, haha combat has been quite the hot topic around the forums the last few weeks. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Feb 6th update impacts the the game when it goes live.

@sgt-palooggoo Exciting times my friend! For the last week or so I've thought, "February 6th is just RIGHT around the corner and then I look at my calendar and it's still two weeks away 0.0 Although that hyped me up a bit more because I love how Rare has taken all month to work on this patch. It just shows that they're taking the time they need to ensure an important update such as this one is done correctly. Especially with the impact it'll have on Arena.

@friedwilly Usually its on mixer you can either open it on the xbox dashboard or try mixer.com/xbox and you can follow the channel. You should get updates when the next broadcast will be hope that helps.

@sw1tcho This is more than likely due to them shifting a bit of focus onto this upcoming February 6th update. They're also probably spending a lot of time and energy on The Arena. It's going to be a huge game changer for Sea of Thieves and has the potential to bring in loads of new players and bring back old players. The Arena needs to be done correctly and launch as smoothly as possible so that they can continue to ride this momentum into future 2019 updates.

Beyond that we know there's a team working on a DLC focused around a questing overhaul and other projects that have yet to be announced. I agree, I'd love to see another Bilge Rat adventure happen sooner rather than later but with all the big stuff coming in the next couple of months I totally understand their priority. Who knows, maybe we'll get something in February.

Feels momentum of fresh updates has stalled this year. Hopefully after 6th Feb more regular updates will occur.

@xraylexx I wouldn't say they've stalled, I'd say they're just focused on making sure these next few patches are as polished as possible. Think about it, Sea of Thieves is BOOMING with momentum right now. More and more players have either come back or set sail for the first time since Shrouded Spoils. It just went on sale for 50% off today in celebration of being the #1 most watched game on Twitch!

It's an incredible time to be playing and with all this new attention and the new players coming in Rare needs to make sure the next few updates leave a positive impact on the game. I'm sure once the Feb 6th update drops the shift will focus to making The Arena the best it possibly can be. After that we've got so much amazing stuff lined up for 2019 it's mind blowing! Keep an eye out for Feb 5th when Rare appears on Inside Xbox to discuss a few things about what's to come for Sea of Thieves in 2019!

Oh I agree. It’s great to play right now. Just missed the momentum of a new Bilge rate every couple of weeks.
