Reconnect to your ship

  • For the love of God, please allow us to reconnect to a session when the game crashes. Simply put us back on our ship where ever it may be.

When a player crashes, simply have the ships anchor drop and the ship stay in location for 5 or so minutes. If another player comes along and loots it so be it.

I'm sick of crashing and losing all my loot.

  • Saw a sloop disappear on the horizon last night - lots of great stuff floating in the water that I gave a home to. Thanks to whomever was running the game on WiFi last night for that tidy little sun!

I've donated my fair share over the weeks... Once crashed with about 10 chest as I just dropped the anchor at an outpost. I'm sure it made someone really happy.

But at last I no longer play solo or randoms cause of the crashes.

    PLEASE FIX THIS RARE!

  • Where would the ship go? Disappear till you come back?

  • Hm.. Not a bad idea. Maybe around 5 to 10 minutes and the ship would disappear if you lost connection, but instantly if you quit through the 'exit game' -button

    Do u think

  • @daguse0 hi how ate u

    Hi you ok

  • @daguse0 Support bump!!!! These Janky servers are ridiculous and plenty of other games allow you to reconnect if you get disconnected. It's plain lazyness. It also makes storing tons of treasure aboard a massive risk thst you have no control over. Me and a buddy lost 40k on the way to an outpost.....8 hours of game play and not once did anyone come close to taking us down. Then the server effed us.......

That would be the plan....can't imagine it being hard to code either.

  • This this this!!!!!

  • Since I started playing at launch, I have never crashed, not even once.

This is a real fear though, that you can disconnect at any moment for whatever reason (maybe the cat decides to reset the router), and just simply lose everything that you have done for the last 2 hours.

Your idea is good. This way the player still has a chance to get back to his ship and other crews are able to get his stuff if he's not fast enough.
This is something you have in most multiplayer games anyway.

I can just imagine the frustration of someone doing a skull fort for an hour, just to disconnect in the final waves and lose everything.

  • @blindnev it can indeed be extremely frustrating!

  • They should just make it so your ship saves whatever is on it when you disconnect or log out.

This would work with any item, except the fort key of course.
Now, of course there needs to be some sort of restriction, so it is not abused.
I was thinking, if any ship is within 500 meters of your ship, a warning pops up saying "Ship detected, logging out now will forfeit your cargo to the sea", and it would do exactly that, drop your cargo off into the ocean if you log out.
Also, if you have taken player damage on your ship within the last 5 minutes, you also forfeit your cargo, "Warning, player damage taken X minutes and XX seconds ago, logging out will forfeit your cargo to the sea".
If you disconnect, same rules apply, as to avoid people just pulling the cable out of their Computer/Xbox.

Now, this also have another advantage(Or disadvantage) in that all your supplies are not refreshed.
Which brings up another suggestion with this:
Supplies are no longer refreshed... EVER, you have to resupply your ship manually. Better stock up on those planks.

I am getting a little annoyed when my boat turns into a submarine or into an airship by this A***e called Allmondbeard, so it would be nice if it weren't a complete loss to disconnect.

  • @danish-crusader the only issue I see with the supply/cargo staying though normal log off it past 10 mins, is who's ship does it pick from?

Say you have full cannon balls and I have full bananas, we crew up. What does the ship have? Also what happens when we go our separate ways?

yeah....... it doesn't work like that.

I'm sure the game already has a timeout counter before you are entirely kicked from the game. The fact you are being kicked and its not your fault already tells you the serverside code is not 100% perfect. And it never will be.

The game doesn't operate in sessions so joining back into a server you got dc'ed from (like escape from tarkov) would hold a spot up in the server, meaning players cant join or be migrated. Simulation still has to be run based on your client even though you have already timed out.

Unfortunately its the nature to how the game has been set up. with its "persistent" servers.

I am sure they are trying their best to stop lost/dropped connections. be patient

But its not a simple serverTimeout = 500; type of change

  • @daguse0 The hosts ship of course.

  • Whenever your crew or you disconnect the ship automatically scuttles, I always hated that. But you actually suggested something quite brilliant: drop the anchor instead. This punishes quitters that would try to abuse a recconect feature by not allowing them to "phase" out of combat and keep their ship on the move. I'd give about the same time it takes for a player to join through matchmaking as the grace period for reconnection, after that is auto-scuttle.

  • Something along the lines of many games where there is a limited time to reconnect would be great. I get the odd crash when SOT tries to modify my 1080's software which it wont allow any game to do. I have lost quite alot due to not turning in as often as i should so partial blame on me i suppose.

Yeah, I understand it wouldn't be just one line of code, but it can't be that hard to have the player rejoin the old session they have connected. Not sure what you mean by not operating on sessions? don't know how they would control things without it, but also it's not hard to add a session tag. Also, my drops are not related to networking but game crashes, while I understand some players are impacted by network crashes, I believe this will still help them.

I hear you, it's just a risk I'm willing to take. It impacts a small group of players, however, for them, it means they can not play with randoms or solo. So it's a major impact.
