A Trackers Megladon Hunt - please fix this mess.

  • Let me start by saying i love a grind, i was among the first to get the gold curse. this quest, is not up to the typical sea of thieves standards at all. its clunky, the music doesn't fit... the quest is maybe 2 clocks, it shows up 4 clocks.... the spyglass mechanic is pretty good really, that should stay in some capacity, but when you arrive, you are met with the same boring 3 phases, kill a Megalodon that doesnt die, kill it again when it doesnt die, and then kill it.... now repeat this 50 times .... when you kill it and it doesnt die, there's no animation to speak of, it literally vanishes out of existence before your eyes. doesnt dive and swim away... doesnt do something new and cool.... it doesnt even do a ghostly fade... it pops out of existence in a clunky and jarring way. the music for the final fight, doesnt scream boss, it screams wondering through lush green mountaintops in ireland during summer with flowers blooming all around you... love the song... but its not boss music. -- now you could fix this in a dozen possible ways, i suggest that you make it much more like the veil quest.... or a tall tail, go from location to location getting items that open up something and let you check meg reports to find a location and then you have a megga fight with a Megalodon.... and then lets talk about the loot pile to time ratio.... which currently is horrible. this should be a bigger fight and the loot pile should be more akin to a garrison, not quite as much as a veil quest but something worth your time and effort. also it should have something resembling variation. i took a long time off and came back, and many of the updates are good.... thank you... i really like the work you guys have put in.... but this hunt is horrible.... please fix it... thanks.

I guess if vibes are the only way you're looking at the music, you wouldn't really appreciate it. That being said, I do disagree. The music fits in quite well.

Each time you win an encounter against the meg and make it run away, a musical cue that uses The Hunter's Call leitmotif plays. And when you eventually reach the final battle location, the music is completely comprised of the Hunter's Call melody, with no sign of the meg's melody. (also a brief melodic reference to a certain shark movie).

As the voyage progresses, YOU become the hunter. That's why it isn't an epic boss theme. This is simply the end of another hunt.

Besides this point, the voyage itself is very rough around the edges and somewhat weird, however.

  • Voyage is fine.

If you are grinding them get yourself a purple stick - melts Megs.

At least it involves TRACKING, unlike the Boar hunt which is randomly run round a hooj island hoping to come across the Boar.
Completed them recently and they seemed to be a lot less frustrating than first release so wonder if patches were made to logic of the Boar eg return to wallow rather than disappear somewhere, beeline to player eventually.

  • why, when i clearly said the megs are too easy, would you say.... make them easier? i respect that everyone has opinions. but some arent good.

  • generally the problems are:

    1. it takes almost no time, it claims to be a 4 clock mission.
    2. the megs, are really really easy.
    3. the music is like peaceful and calming when it should be full of terror... you are fighting a meg which should be hard.... its not hard... but it should be.
    4. the loot pile is tiny.... now for the effort you are currently putting in, the loot is about right, but it makes the voyage tedious.... the voyage should be thrilling, and difficult.
    5. the animations should be realistic.... having a meg just pop out of existance is weird and clunky.

its really the top of the heap for under produced material... typically sea of thieves has a story and the music matches the emotion, theres a great deal of needed time... and reward for your effort... this is.... just the opposite.... bad game design.

    • Raise Hunters Call.

    • Do Meg Voyages till you hit Grade V. Think it's just one needed with cooking.

    • Hunt Ancient Meg. If Fire Meg - let us know how you get on.

  • this response has absolutely nothing in it that adresses my concerns. but thanks?

  • You have literally 3 waves to fight a meg to kill it completely and you want it to give as much loot as a Garrison does? A Garrison has double the amount of waves of enemies and bosses and takes way longer to finish than a meg fight and you still get a decent amount for the 3 waves. You get 2 items each from the 1st 2 spawns before the final kill. Then you get that loot from the final kill plus the 4 items from down in the shipwreck. Plus the meg meat it gives. I think the meg voyages are great and fun to do no need to change them up.

  • @elmo6842 no, as i said... i want them to make it harder, and then give more loot...

  • @elmo6842 im not sure why the two of you even bothered to respond since you clearly didnt read the post at all.

Unsure who this is addressed to - but if it is me?

Bruh, you can shout at clouds (you think a Dev team that is regularly delaying NEW features, pulling NEW features completely is going to go back and 'fix' Meg Voyage) or you can use your imagination and the existing features in the sandbox to find the experience you are looking for.

    Ancient Megs provides that.

  • @pc-monkfish idk... im a gamedev.... if i had put this in this game... i'd review it and fix it. its really badly designed all around.
