Joe Neate said we'll be make a bigger choice than Golden Sands one this year

  • During Gamescom Rare gave us some info, for example Mike Chapman said they got the story ready for the next year/year and a half, including the possible outcomes of the next choice players will have to make. Speaking of that, as said in the title Joe Neate said the we'll make an important choice this year, one even bigger than deciding the fate of Golden Sands, any ideas about what this will be?

  • last time I played their lil' game my side won and then they kinda killed my dude and then they fully killed my dude

It's like a piratical Saw movie out there.

  • whatever it is, Im gonna vote for Reapers again (if that will be the case). Last choice ended up with:

    1. minor changes to golden sands
    2. Merrick kidnapped and killed, leaving Serrick a widow
    3. Stephen spoils being abandoned, cuz now I cant sell ma fish there
I hope team savegoldensands have realised what they've done
  • They also said it will toy with our feelings more than anything before...

Add PVE servers by helping Shr- I mean Ramsey?

Or let the game stay PVEVP by siding with reapers?

Ok That's awful. I am sure they have something better.

  • That about sums up my feelings about it. Hopefully Rare learned some lessons about transparency to make the next one feel a little less staged.

  • one even bigger than deciding the fate of Golden Sands, any ideas about what this will be?

Only thing bigger than a single island/post would be the rest of the islands or whole map.
    Or...Pirate Lord fate? :o

Besides that nobody or island is really important.

    ... saved Golden Sands...

Which is much better than leaving it trash.

It was never going to turn into a Flameheart fort/base.. it was never going to be an actual portal to SotD... Flamehearts option would have been this super sweet outcome that we've all just denied ourselves now...

Merrick was dying regardless... they've had that next adventure planned out way before. Thousand percent guaranteed.

Flameheart people can dream and tell themselves whatever they want.. but they were seriously just dreaming.

.. and with Rare's track record on stuff like this...? Yeah.. not looking forward to whatever the next one is, and how they handle that.

  • Whether or not to quit playing altogether?

That's always been the biggest choice.

  • Considering the amount of change that the previous result gave us, I don't think the bar is set very high.

I'm still not sure if there are future changes for Golden Sands or if this is it. Even if Flameheart won I would have expected the same amount of change - a bunch of broken props and the outpost moved to a different island and that's it.

  • @tre-oni see, thats the problem. We will never find out what would've happened if the Golden Sands was remained ruined. Never. Thus no side can say which decision is better. Im jus saying that what we currently got was frustrating, at least for me. Not sure bout Merrick tho

  • Duke. He's the character I care about the most. He guided me from the start and the outpost are a quieter place without him. Is he really a bad guy now or is this a double agent kind of thing? If hes still on our side, I want to help him. If hes not, I want to shoot a cannonball directly into his face.
Either way, I feel like his time may be running out.

In a podcast when they were talking about the aftermath of the Golden Sands adventure, Chapman specifically stated he liked the unknown nature of the state of things so it couldn't be gamed.

I said multiple times during that Adventure and official, that they were keeping it vague on purpose to avoid that and I was right.

I do not think Rare is going to give you exact details for big decisions that would swing the vote a certain way or game the system.

That is something the community is going to have to understand.

That may be, and I get it, but it wasn’t cool to have vague and contradictory instructions about what counted and what didn’t, and having a “real-time status” website that was only occasionally updated (and seemed to swing suspiciously between one side being barely ahead and then the other) wasn’t great either. Better to have no update at all.

I still enjoyed participating but wish these things had been handled differently.

That's not a high bar to clear, considering our "decision" was pretty much cosmetic.

Not that I'm complaining. I really have no desire to decide the fate of anything in the game outside of my own pirate. But I'd rather they not try and create the illusion that our choices are going to decide anything beyond some surface level facades.

If you love duke that much... Read the new novel. No this is not spoiling anything as the book REALLY tears down any expectations.

  • To make it a true choice, it should have no impact on turning loot in or convenience. So many people chose golden sands because keeping it made it easier to sail in that area and to sell loot. The choice needs to be entirely story based and cosmetic in the way it affects the world, otherwise people vote with whatever pays or helps them the best.

  • I'm still betting that we'll be introduced with "the catch" involving the sovereigns.
They won't stay a free and easy loot dump for long, we just don't know what the cost of their services will be yet.

  • @scheneighnay 'The Catch 22' The Soverigns will remain free but Golden Sands burns. That would make Joe happy, he wasn't pleased with it being saved.

  • Oh no, I hope they don't delete Dagger tooth outpost, oh please, don't delete dagger tooth, because I love it so much... or even better the entire Wilds

PS please tell Serik to send one of her kids over to stephen spoils its so annoying i cant sell fish in 2022 in a hot part of the map

I'm sueing the Dark Brethren until my fish selling station is restored.

If it's reapers vs sovereigns, I vote sovereigns because they help you avoid the 10 minute jog you need to do to sell at daggertooth without them.

Would be way too soon. Rare is never that quick after just introducing something new.

  • Whatever it is, I have a feeling it will be a lot more 'grey' of a moral choice, with clear strings attached that can be summised when picking either party.

  • @scoobywrx555 said in Joe Neate said we'll be make a bigger choice than Golden Sands one this year:

Apparently what makes them happy isn't always best.

Look at how they launched Hunters Cry...

Players actually have to get these things in their hands at the end of the day... so.. you can't just go around doing something for the sake of doing it...

Removing outposts is a garbage move. You can tell a story, and have impactful changes without having to entirely screw over a large number of people, or ruin the flow of the game, or an entire half of the map for spawning in for 5 months.

Just tell the story.. don't try and make it our responsibility, or fault when something gets ruined.

  • I actually did not and still don't like the idea of us players permanently changing things in the SoT through choice.

  • Larinna gets kidnapped and replaced by a mime. The choice we get is do we want to name the mime, "Motormouth" or "Jacques".

From the sounds of it by all the toxic forum posters they (Rare) will introduce spawn camping to the Adventure mode.
