Was listening to SoT and PotC Music, and came to Davy Jones' theme, played on the little music box he has.
And i thought about adding music boxes to the game. Each melody did something for you or your ship. Was thinking of the Oujiboards in Phasmophobia, where you can ask the ghost, that you are hunting questions, and it will answear you and it will trigger some kind of action (or hunt you).
If we reverse the Ouijaboard idea of a Player doing the Audio, which triggers an Ingame Action/consequence, and then let the Game (box) do the Audio, which then leads to an action for the player (good or bad), when the melody stopped playing.
Maybe the boxes will have different "themes" where the evil looking will only play melodies, which triggers something bad (damage, fire, holes in ship, loss of food). And the divine looking would obv do something good (Health, add food, speed boost for ship). The Neutral Box, would play any of the melodies resulting in any action to occur.
These boxes would be very rare, maybe random or guaranteed by some higher standing mob. It would of course be worth alot of gold or doubloons, as there are risks of transporting these.
The funny thing would be that its unpredictable, and only when you heard the melody, you would know what was about to happen.
There are many ways to do this. The box could be untouchable when its playing (so that you cant throw it overboard), or you would have to open it, and keep it open, for you and your nearby crewmates to actually hear the melody when its playing. Maybe a little shaken of the box, which would signal that a melody was about to play. This could also be used as a tactical weapon, to palce and hide on an enemy ship.
As for the lore around these boxes, im sure Rare is more talented in writing that. But my guess could be that different pirates had these boxes as a lucky charm, or any different reason. Maybe for Good Luck, for Wealth and prosperity, for a long and happy life, for freedom and so on... but some pirates were scammed, as some of the boxes were cursed by The Reapers. The boxes was now UNlucky charms, and caused some ships to sink, and crews to perish. Thats why some boxes are found at wrecks, in a perfect condition, compared to the rest of the ship. And some boxes are buried with the pirate, in hopes that it will protect their souls or bring them eternal peace (possible in sea of the damned?)
Maybe its just a valuable trading item, or an item which could lead pirates to their greatest treasure or adventure, or the boxes are just haunted somehow.
I dont know if the Pirates in SoT are superstitious, or if the lore would work, but yea! thats my long suggestion for adding a new interesting item to the game!
Cheers!
