The only place I see them adding “ice” would be in a deep cave. Deep deep.

And these wouldn’t bring more players. Like the DR area. They come for it but stop playing from disappointment of seeing how horrible it is.

If they ever expand the world through the use of the portal, and introduce new seas, I think a lot of your suggestions would be really cool! I would love the Devil's Roar to continue to get developed in some way, like maybe introducing lava or adding unique fauna.

Would love to see an arctic zone so much, and use of the portal would be a good way to add one.

As a side note, the developers do add a lot of new features and content on a fairly regular basis. It is quite impressive impo. The quality of life updates have been fantastic so far and hope it continues to expand (like cross server maps and being able to access things on the item wheal while sitting. Fishing while sitting down for the win). Fingers crossed that future updates could include an arctic update, and maybe more kinds of sea creatures, like the ones that can be seen as map designs on old maps.

Are people really that keen on sailing and then getting stuck in the ice ?

@cabbageboy5778 People think they want a new biome but really they don't. All a new biome would do is further reduce player interaction and considering player interaction is the core part of this game and one of its best features further splitting of the playerbase on already very unstable and laggy servers is not a wise idea. Majority of the reason people come and leave is due to losing via hit reg or server latency related issues. Expanding the map which already has enough problems as it is is not the answer. Main priority needs to be get the servers stable again like prior to shrouded spoils release so that player interactions feel fluid again instead of the 50/50 chance now that it will be a laggy clunky mess.

@cptnpotbeard i have to disagree…the game is going into a direction of pve…i really havent had any interactions with other pirates anymore…most just want to explore and do things on their own…the map is already big enough they could add a ice area…though having to break through ice is a no go…the focus of the game now should be expanding the map, adding more things to do, creating a better pirate customization tool, and building more stories

You @ me and say a lot - all I said was the game play of getting stuck in the ice as it will probably be even less fun than waiting for a volcano in The Roar to stop.

Most of the other persons in this topic all have reasons why an ice-biome won't or shouldn't be in the game. Your points are with them. You should @ those posters if you want to discuss your points of view with them.

@madfrito99 This is a pirate game. Not a viking simulator. You want frozen north and vikings go play Valhiem. And no this is not a pve game and it never was. It was always meant to be focused around player interaction. If you're not social probably shouldn't play online multi-player games then.

@cptnpotbeard if they can do a volcanic area they can do a icy area…why would that be horrible? and i simply said they game is becoming more pve..i know what the initial design was..but its changing…less and less people engage now

@madfrito99 If you haven't had interactions it is because you don't seek them out. I never have a shortage of pvp if I search for it. And yeah I skimmed your post and singled out the ice area, sue me I was still half asleep when I wrote it. The volcano's are fine thematically but ice doesn't really make sense for pirates. Plus the more you expand the map the less likely player interaction will become so to have increased player interaction we do not need a map expansion but more focused activities to draw the server to a single location how forts used to do back a launch. Problem being is that nowadays there are far too many easy ways to obtain large sums of gold with little to no risk and minimal effort.

I wouldn't expect a hull that breaks when you gently kiss a dock will sustain in ice though.

When they introduced The Roar they also introduced the row boats - those are also useful outside of the Roar. An ice breaker & reinforced hull would/should be a hindrance on the other parts of the Sea.

I just don't see an ice biome as a useful addition to the regular Seas, perhaps as an separate bit in a Tall Tale but as it won't be really used outside of the Tall Tale, I doubt they want to put much dev time and money into it.

I would imagine a reinforced hull would make the ship slower and/or harder to maneuver or perhaps it is deeper in the water.

Didn't think about that it would be better if you use it bumping against other ships or less damage from cannon shots, might be interesting but AFAIK Rare devs don't like to have bonuses like that in the game.
